Question about Official/Unoffical faction relations. - Slabbo - 05-02-2014 Hello, I was wondering if I could get clarification from Administrators about this rule. "Faction Right 2. Official player factions have authority over players of the same NPC affiliation, as long as RP justification is provided....." Does this mean that an official faction leader can usurp the authority of the leader of an unofficial faction and begin giving orders to that leader/ and or his unofficial factions players? For instance, if there was a war, the leader of an unofficial faction will not have the ability to position his forces where he deems them strategically fit, and instead has to position them where the leader of the official faction wants them? It doesn't seem right that a faction leader grinds to train, arm, and build a bank for his faction members just to have someone usurp their authority who didn't contribute to that unofficial faction. Any clarification is appreciated, thank you. RE: Question about Official/Unoffical faction relations. - Sath - 05-02-2014 Nope, unofficial factions function on their own, unless they break lore and cause trouble for the official factions, wherein some of the times the admins have to step in. Also, only official factions have monopoly over bases, systems and such (I guess so, correct me if I am wrong). But that doesnt mean that they can OORPly do things to deny other factions of the same NPC affiliation and put restrictions on them, unless something they do which can be justified via RP. This is the crux of that response. You are free to ignore the wishes of the Official Faction, but doing so may also have nRP cosequences: Example: the Officials could FR5 you and not permit your ships to dock on their bases, or they may put Bounties on your ships, or they declare your ships as rogue and treat them as hostiles. Official player factions have authority over players of the same NPC affiliation, as long as RP justification is provided. This authority applies in forums and in-game, and applies to player faction diplomacy, and strategic and tactical direction, however, exercise of that authority, on the forums and in game, is restricted to official faction members with the rank of the official faction leader and second in command(s) of the faction. The authority may be exercised through the use of in-game in-RP orders, which, if not obeyed, can result in in-game in-RP consequences (arrest, court martial, and even "lethal" force in extreme circumstances). Official player factions cannot, under any cicrumstances, require another player to follow non-canon RP if that player doesn't want to. In case of IDs with multiple official factions, this right is nullified and cannot be used by any of the factions. TLDNR: Official faction lead and second in command has the right to issue tactical and strategic orders - like commanding a battle or ordering ships to disengage in case of a gank. These orders can be backed up by RP consequences like FR5, or killing disobedient members of the faction. Orders are limited such that they cannot be non-canon RP (unless the player wants to). So all in all, yes - 'usurp' is a harsh word, but an official faction leader + second in command can issue orders to any members of your unofficial faction, provided that it follows canon RP, and there can be consequences if you ignore them. Don't be discouraged though - most factions rarely exercise this right unless the people in question are being completely silly, and most official faction leaders aren't jerks. So yes they can, but the worst they can do is start basically a RP civil war, or put out bounties on you? Would the unofficial faction be sanctioned by the moderation team for not following orders of an official faction if, of course as you said, the faction isn't being completely ridiculous? This is really a case-by-case basis. Such a thing is currently going on amongst different Outcast factions (101st vs. CL) and has been perfectly legal by server rules standards. Now, previously there was a much bigger problem along similar lines with Zoners (ZA vs. Phoenix, TAZ, etc.) that let to a lot of OORP non-sense and problems. This one had to be handled a bit by Admins and resulted in some sanctions. So, really...the key is to make sure you're aren't doing anything too crazy, as you already mentioned, and still abiding by all regular server rules in the process. And, again, be prepared to suffer the RP consequences of your actions. RE: Question about Official/Unoffical faction relations. - Ayatolah - 05-22-2014 I still remember when TBH took inrp actions against certain unofficial faction (and as far as i know) with reason..... RE: Question about Official/Unoffical faction relations. - Fluffyball - 06-20-2014 I was wondering about making the faction that is neutral in Sirius, but rather kind of quasilawful in Kusari. What ID would it need then, since Freelancer ID forbids attacking lawfuls. The main problem in fact is that the faction itself wouldn't be not opposed towards Kusari Exiles, Blood Dragons or GC, yet kind of could land on Kyushu, because of the ideology of the faction. |
