Obviously in part to solve this thread, among other things.

The basic idea is that when a ship jumps out, it leaves behind a temporary (5 min perhaps?) jump hole (warp trail), except its not really a jump hole since you can't dock with it.

What the pursuer does, is he charges up his jd, then locks on/scans the warp trail, and then the destination is fed into his jump drive (of course the coords are not actually displayed so the pursuer doesn't just get a free jump coord). Then, eg. a jd3 bs could have his snub buddies dock, and go after the escapee to prevent him from surviving etc.

Obviously problems such as the pursuer possibly leaving their zoi and thus breaking the rules, but there should be an exception for this kind of pursuit.

The usefullness of this feature obviously extends beyond combat, eg. a team of pirates could stealthily scout out a jump trading convoy, and go after them once the convoy has jumped out.

so kinda like the movie jumper?
Where the agents have a special piece of equipment that lets those who cant jump, jump?
If so + 1

There might be zoi problems, as the pursuer is unaware of the destination. Sometimes an x battleship, take it to be a OC dread does so, and a LN ID BS follows behind. The jump takes them to Kusari.

This will result inRP headache for both the LN as well as some KNF guy spotting the said LN in Kusari. While the OC can easily escape as they are in no way bound to Kusarian laws.

If they end up out of their normal zoi, they could file an inrp diplomatic report with screencap of the warp trail and request to be escorted back to the border.

The other option is fixing jumpdrives by making them interruptible like cloaks.

Who will code this?

I've been trying to get linked to a repository of sorts since the-starport.net is down. Nobody seems to be able to.

Obviously the prerequisite for making a gameplay suggestion is full knowledge of programming and scripting etc. pls stop posting stuff like this, sooner or later a dev will come along and tell if this is feasible or not, not really our problem.

Even if it codeable, and there will be a person, who would take it, won't it overload server even more. Cap battles laready giving some stresses to server. Such, nearly random JH generating wont turn game into non-playable status.

And... Warp is a bit different thing, than a jump hole, if Im not mistaking.

RE: Warp trails - lIceColon - 06-04-2014

not necessarily a jh, but an object representing the residual trail left by the jumper for the pursuer to scan. jh seems like a reasonable choice.

also, its not a random generated jh, the jh is specifically and only generated upon jumping which should be minimal in contributing to server lag.
