Guards tags in upcoming mod--IMPORTANT! - worldstrider - 09-04-2008

Please do the following to all Guards reputations in the upcoming mod:

1) Have NO guards bribes (as is current).
2) Fix it so normal bribes for the faction DO NOT increase Guards reputations(missions only).
3) FULLY red ALL Guards reputations for starting players.

This will fix a lot of oorp stuff with ships and weps and illegal docking and wrong alignments and cutting through faction military systems like they are public parks.

As it stands right now, I get the faction rep and "POOF!" now I am neutral in the guards system too. They should have to be earned and hard to get.

It's possible.

The starting rep is determined by the server and it is chore to alter reps but its completely doable.

Just a lot of work but adding in the new French houses was much more work than this would be.

As it stands right now all players are automatically red to all Guards if you pass through their system before becoming Friendly with that Guard's counterpart.

If you never go into the guards system, for instance Rheinland Military Guard, and become full freindly with the RM, yes, the guard will be neutral to you. However if you had previously gone through the RM guard system it will remain hostile to you until you fully earn otherwise. Does that make any sense?

In english If you go into a guard system before your rep is friendly with its counter part. They will be hostile to you and much harder to acquire rep for?

However if you dont go into the guard system and become friendly with it's counter part first it will be faster because when you are full friendly with it's counter part, when you explore the system with the guard in it you will be neutral....Thats my translations.

I'm not seeing what anything in this post has to do with bribes.

(edit: that's a non-subtle way to say I wasn't talking about anything except the bribe part in my post.)

yea - i don t get what you said either, AC-merc. ... aren t factions dealt with on a char, no matter if he has had contact or not? - like.... my zoner rep goes up when i do GMG missions.... even if i haven t met any zoner yet.

if a normal bribe does NOT affect the guard reputation anymore - but a guard reputation can only be achieved by doing missions..... how are zoners supposed to aquire a guard reputation? ( well, in your example by getting green with the zoners - so that the guard is at least white - but then, i dont really know what you meant there anyway )

if however, the normal bribe affects the guard ( as it does now ) - ... nothing has really changed whatsoever....

My point is that if I drive to Nellis AFB and joy ride down the flight line while they are prepping B2 bombers for nuclear ordinance training missions, I'm going to a federal penitentiary for a very long time. If I go to CIA headquarters in Langley Virginia and run past the security check in--same deal.

Saying, "But I get along real well with the police back home" doesn't make sense.

And while I was unaware of how the rep worked as you describe its irrelevant. Players should be FULL--all the way to the bottom RED with every guards faction until they work it up by missions alone. Like the Order for example.
Bribes for the generic faction should not make one eligible to interact freely in military systems and its too easy now to get them. Get a bribe, you have the rep. Making it mission required to get rep helps keep balanced reps that should be enemies and makes it hard to have a Xeno and Junker rep for example.

All the reasons I gave initially would benefit from it--helps keep players in proper order and that's even more relevant now with the admin decision to be stricter on that.

Besides, you already can't get bribes for military factions, Zoners or the Order. And the Zoners have no missions.
