"...The Lane Hackers are a criminal group with the technical expertise to monitor and disrupt Trade Lanes for the purpose of seizing valuable cargo..."
"...Lane Hackers are mostly composed of former Los Angeles Ageira Technologies employees who created the extremely complex scanning and database system known as USI (Universal Ship Identification). The system was originally created in partnership with Interspace Commerce. It is installed in Jump Gates and Trade Lanes so the companies can see what cargo the passing ships are holding, allowing for proper tariffs to be levied and shipments to be tracked. The Lane Hackers are famously using the USI to gather information about valuable cargo being transported..." excerpts from original game Universal Ship Identification The Lane Hackers version consist of three modules: Scanner, Analytic and unfinished Prediction. Only members of Deceiver rank or higher are given access to the Scanner. Only members of Infiltrator rank or higher are given access to Analytic. The Scanner Module The Scanner shows all priority contacts grouped by category within the active zone of operations. Extortion targets are shown along with their entire route. For each tracked ship there is an easy access to information about time and system of launch and current vector. See attachment for additional information. The Analytic Module All routes of high priority targets, mainly Ageira Technologies, Independent Neuralnet Division, Interspace Commerce and Deep Space Engineering, are recorded in the database for further processing. Simple analytic reports can be generated based on this data that specify the most frequent routes and systems. See attachment for additional information. Additionally, a work on Prediction module was initiated, which would use all stored routes in the database to predict tracked ship next system to jump using heuristic algorithms on current vector. Unfortunately, the work was never finished. Conclusion While getting access to TLAGSNET would be certainly a nice thing, in many ways USI is a much more sophisticated system than TLAGSNET and at the same time it works as an incentive for our members to progress through ranks and fulfill demanding promotion criteria. For this reason, taking only our self-interest into account, we are indifferent to the notion of giving TLAGSNET access to Lane Hacker ID. At the same time we believe that three goals should be always considered when making any decision regarding changes in the Discovery Mod:
