Room 1408 - (restricted to Parkes, Demesa and Dankien) - moebus - 07-27-2014

When Parkes (and possibly Demesa) rang to his door, Dankien checked the door and opened it. Welcome, please come inside (showing a couch to sit in his room). I did not expect someone would contact me prior the meeting. So you were omicroner(s)? What can I do for you? But prior the discussion, can I offer you some drinks?

"Thank you agreeing to receive me." Parkes walked into the room, supported by his cane and Demesa. He quickly found a chair and slowly lowered himself into it.

"Glasses of wine for us both?" He said, knowing that Demesa would not partake in any drinking on this visit to Baffin.

Demesa cleared her throat, "To clarify, Tobias was not an Omicroner like us, but he holds similar ideals and he likes similar people. Now that everyone knows each other, I'll be outside if required."

She left the room and stood guard outside the door.

"You're welcome Tobias, I am always glad to meet some true compatriot, feel free to join us later Demesa if you wish".
While speaking Dankien prepares two glasses of wine, give one to Tobias and sits on the couch.
"I am not sure I know you, where do you come from?"

Parkes accepted the drink with a smile and took a small sip.

"I'm part of the frontier folk. Freeport 11. You've supplied us before...", he started saying before taking another sip, "...and it helped a lot. Quite a few former comrades now call Eleven home. Phoenix members tend to drop by too, every now and again."

"What about you? Last I heard you were hanging around the lower Omegas and Bretonia. Although I wouldn't call that the most accurate information." Parkes recalled a rumour onboard Freeport 11 a few months ago talking about the old trade master.

RE: Room 1408 - (restricted to Parkes, Demesa and Dankien) - moebus - 07-28-2014

"ah... Freeport 11, the freeport of the edge, the last human station before the nomad worlds... I have some admiration for the people living there. You are really far from all and terribly exposed to the nomads..."

"talking about myself, well... After my friends and colleagues left Sirius, the omicroners disbanded and we lost most of our zoner influence in the omicrons. Corsairs were free to do what they wanted. Some zoners founded the confederation of freeports and negotiated a peace with Corsairs. Personally, I was fed up with all this mess. You know, I did not left the House systems to fall under the corsair influence... So once again, I looked for a safe place where I could rebuild something. Since zoners trusted me, it was not very difficult to gather ex-omicroners and local independent zoners. That was the birth of the Phoenix in Sigma-17. Then I needed some rest, so I transmitted the lead of the group to Christian Burton. Unfortunately, that was not a wise decision. Indeed, he may be very stubborn, and when we had some disagreement about the Phoenix diplomacy he simply kicked me from the faction.

So I went back to the omicrons where I met some other zoners who were working for me when I was leading the omicroners. And then we started a serie of scientific projects for zoners or third parties. Using my battleship as a research station. During this time, I did not had so many contacts with the zoner community so I am not precisely aware of what has happened during the last months. I think the zoner summit will be a good update for that. And Gallia may be a serious threat, so it will make me happy if I can help TAZ about it.

And what about you? Freeport 11 is quiet far from Gallia, what is your interest in this summit?

RE: Room 1408 - (restricted to Parkes, Demesa and Dankien) - n00bl3t - 07-28-2014

"The admiration is mutual. Omicron 74 was not so far removed from us and neither was The Nine. We had a mutually beneficial system going." Parkes cracked a rare, warm smile, before it disappeared again, "What do you mean kicked? He just flung you out? That's preposterous."

He calmed down a bit before getting on to the most pressing topic.

"Ah Gallia. I don't fancy falling under their rule, but at the same time I'm in two minds about the unity and loyalty of the TAZ. Whilst they never betrayed the Omicroners like the OSI corporation, they still stood back when it happened. I don't fancy giving military aid to those would not render it in return!" He calmed down a bit and took a large gulp of wine.

His wrinkled forehead got a rub from his palm before before he continued, "Not that I could give it anyway. We need everything we can get out here. That and the Gallics would never make it here. Not worth it militarily. Nomads. Who knows what else. Resource lines would be horrible for a navy out here. And we have a semi-peace with them, even if we know it's just a standing arrangement with no guarantee of lasting."

He sighed a little before getting to why he was here, "Honestly, I was told to come here and listen and let people back home know what was going on in Baffin. We don't exactly trust the current 'Administrator' too much when it comes to news. So I suppose I'm in the same boat as you in a way."

RE: Room 1408 - (restricted to Parkes, Demesa and Dankien) - moebus - 07-28-2014

Dankien laughs "well, when I said 'kicked' I meant they cancelled all my personal accesses codes: preventing me to dock on the base, fly the phoenix ships and get credit from the Phoenix treasury. A sad story indeed, but there is no big deal about it. You know, there is no material thing that cannot be replaced."

Dankien drinks some wine and continues: "It's clear that if Gallia reaches Freeport 11 then it means all Sirius has been invaded by Gallia... but I don't think it will happen soon. However, there are some rumours about the military strength of Gallia. I've heard they could easily defeat any of the four Houses. Maybe zoners could spy Gallic forces to discover their true military potential. This info would be precious for Sirius Houses, we could obtain a good price from it. Actually, I am wondering if we should ignore Gallia, consider it as a normal House or help those who fight against it. Considering they declared war to Sirius I would go for the last option, but it's also true they sent some peaceful messages so maybe Gallia is not so bad. I really lack of information about it. That's another reason for me to be here.

Dankien acquiesces: "you mean the new TAZ leader? What's wrong with him? My loyalty is still great toward TAZ because they always supported us. However, it's true I don't really know what they are doing after Doc Holliday resigned from his leader position. That's the second reason for my presence here, I mean to support TAZ if they are in need for help."

RE: Room 1408 - (restricted to Parkes, Demesa and Dankien) - n00bl3t - 07-29-2014

"Things that can't be bought are more important." Parkes thought. He felt it was this philosophy that separated Zoners from corporations.

"The pope system and the like seem odd to an old man like me. Never understood it. Not quite sure I want to." Parkes began, not really answering the question, "I moreso meant John Douglas, who should be arriving in Baffin soon, if not already."

His wine glass needed refilling and he pondered how to get to the wine bottle on the table for a little bit before giving up on the idea. He needed a somewhat clear head for the conference.

"Perhaps I misjudged the TAZ. From what I hear from former Omicroners who live on the station they hold them at an unfriendly level. Either way, I'm sure the conference will reveal more, especially when it comes to information on Gallia. Perhaps we should...." Parkes was interrupted by a knock at the door before he could continue.

Demesa peeked her head around the door and gave a quick nod before her spiel, "I think the majority of representatives have arrived. Talks should begin soon, so you need to wrap up to keep on schedule."

Parkes was slightly chuffed and began to apologise for his assistant, "I'm sorry. Young girl. Not much tact. Dankien, I like your flexibility and I respect your way of looking at things. Perhaps after this conference we could talk some more?"

RE: Room 1408 - (restricted to Parkes, Demesa and Dankien) - moebus - 07-30-2014

Dankien agrees: "well said indeed. And in my case I tried to keep a full control on my personal "unbuyable" things"

"ah... the TAZ clergy... I've never been into religion. You know, I believe only in Freedom. Actually, I've never tried to understand TAZ religion, maybe I should look at it. At least to understand them better"

When Dankien realizes Parkes glass is empty, he looks at the wine bottle at the same time Demesa knocked at the door. "Yes? Come in".

"Thank you for informing us Demesa. Parkes, I think it's time to go to the summit. Of course, when it will be done, I will be happy to pursue this discussion."

RE: Room 1408 - (restricted to Parkes, Demesa and Dankien) - n00bl3t - 07-30-2014

Parkes nodded in agreement.

Perhaps he had come to the summit with too many assumptions on how border world Zoners lived. After all, he had spent most of his time out on the edge.

He got up with the help of his cane.

"Thank you for the talk Dankien. It's good to see you're doing well and you have plans with your life." Parkes smiled a another rare smile, before stopping to speak some more, "And thanks for the wine. I look forward to seeing you again."

And with that Parkes walked out the door that Moebus graciously held open for him.

Demesa was outside twirling her gun with a bored look on her face. Guard duty was regarded as a dull duty by her, unless someone did something exciting.

The Templar nodded as the duo passed him in the hall, "Sir, I've been told to inform you that Dr Van Mojo would like to see you."

Parkes looked across to Demesa, "That's fine. I'm heading back to the main area first so he can see me there or send someone to escort me to wherever. I hope it's not too far though. Walking too far is a terrible thing."

The duo then continued on their way back to the atrium.

The Templar then updated his data screen with the information that Parkes and Moebus had concluded their business and would be heading back, whilst walking about 30 feet behind the pair.
