RP Balance of Human Cargo - Vredes - 07-28-2014

Hello, I am curious how could a freighter carry 600+ of human cargo? Or how is it possible for a 5ker to have more crew than a battleship? Can the units that human cargo take be increased(balanced), as well as the price proportional to the times the cargo needed was increased. How can a human being take as much space as a bottle of whiskey, a pack a cigars or a pipe of cardamine?

For an example:

Slave-5 units with increase of 5 times in price
Pilot-5 units -||-
Crew member-5 units -||-
Scientist-5 units -||-
Refugee(change the pic to one refugee)-5 or if they are still two of them than 10 units -||-
VIP-15 or 20 units with increase of 3 to 4 times in price to match its infocard.

You might notice that a unit where they put a person in FL is the same size as, for example, a unit of consumer goods, or whiskey. By my assessment (relative to Trent (probably about 1.8m tall, or 2, to round it up)), those units are about 2.5 meters long and 1 meter tall/wide. I doubt one could put a human being and all the life support inside that, even in Kusari. I doubt one could put 20 of those inside a Starflier. They would have more volume than a 3×3×5m cuboid, which is about as large as the Starflier itself (which has a cockpit, an engine, a fuel tank, a reactor, life support, air conditioning, an ash tray or two, etc). Now imagine 30 of those inside a Dromedary.
But, I suppose people can shrink things in Freelancer. They can tractor them in trough ship walls, at 1500m/s without inertia, and somehow even neatly pack them side by side.
Blame Daam K'Vosh, I suppose.

Because you don't carry one bottle of whiskey. You carry a crate of it, with dozens if not hundreds of bottles inside.

I think of it more ( When it comes to cargo and food stuff) as pallets of the stuff like we have today in modern grocery stores. were basically there is a bottom pallet (wood/metal/plastic) and then its stacked god awfully high wrapped in Shrink Wrap and fancy giant Zip tie things and then bam shipped off and out to its destination.

On the Slave note: They should ( if we need it to be increased at all) take up 2 cargo space because they are still slaves and would not have the same comforts as say a passenger.

Still, a crate of whiskey is the size of a human? If you found another RP explanation other than that please do share, or like you like to say... post a proof of that please.

A good point, life support. You read to info cards of the Arrow and so and you get to wounder how can it sustain 25 human beings if it barely does sustain one. No how can it fit more than one if it has only its cockpit. How can a 5ker that is 3 times smaller than a light battleship sustain 5000 human beings?

It is still small, refugees for an example are transported the same way as slaves, only they pay for that to be moved from the war zone and care not if they are in a Luxury Liner or a 600 year old, rusted, about to break and die in space pilgrim liner(i love pilgrim liner, dont get me wrong).

Increasing cargo consumption of human cargo + adjusting prices accordingly? Why not! Smile Would reduce the artificiality when a fighter carries 98 pilots.

Exactly... no harm will come to the human cargo haulers, it is just an RP adjustment.

I'm all up for significantly multiplying human cargo requirements and prices of them. Some heavier fighters for sure could carry 2 or 3 but with current system starflea can haul 20. They're not comparable to (propably rather small) boxes of hand-held weapons/food/drugs/etc that fit into Sirian universal unit of "1".

While at it, why not apply the same to military vehicles? They're pressumably at the very least APC.

As far as I remember, military vehicles are one of the few cargoes in the game that already do take up more than one unit - it might be about 5, actually. If we're working on that as a basis, then I'd love to see human cargo taking up two or three units; if they were 5, then military vehicles would again need to be increased.

I'd love to see an increase though, one way or another. 2-3 units per human cargo seems like a nice compromise that I'd be happy with - still not realistic, but a better state than now, and at the same time doesn't compromise too much space for RP commitment. When possible I quite like to fly with a "crew" abroad in the form of the commodity, but having a fair sized ship (and thus fair sized crew) becomes less tempting if they're taking up 100-200 cargo space.

But again, either way, I'd support this change.
