Freelancer Crash on startup... - Angelfire - 09-06-2008

From main menu I click 'New Game' and she crashes to desktop.

A few seconds later the microsoft 'send error report' thingie pops up.

I am about to do another re-install but maybe it's something small that someone has an answer to.

I've updated my Graphics drivers, Tried every resolution in FL and scratched through the forums and web fanatically.

anyone have an answer of some sort?

Re-install FL, make disco on it.
If it still crashes, delete your savegames (SP)
and try again, should work.

Tried that.

Dammit.

What could be wrong. Day 2 of my 14 day comeback and I have no fl:(

I assume you're using FLMM 1.3.
In really don't know what to say other than: "Do you use Vista?"

Yup. FLMM 1.3

and Nope, not vista.

XP

Damn. This problem seems complicated. I found that it helps to have the FL disk in the drive when I play. Reduces the bugs, surprisingly. try that, maybe?

I recommend clearing and Freelancer registries in the Registry Editor. I'll find it myself and give you instructions, because sometimes the registry may be the problem in some things. Oh and un-install before doing this.

Start > Run > Type in 'regedit'

Go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > Microsoft Games > Freelancer

Just delete the whole Freelancer folder and re-install the game. I hope this helps.

Oh you said you got a new Video Card, what is it?

Freelancer Crash on startup... - Angelfire - 09-06-2008

Thanks Fletcher, I'll do all that and see what happens.

Not new video card, still have my trusty 7800 GTX, merely updated the drivers.

The FL Demo works fine.

Disco is the one giving me hassles.

Hmm Discovery not working but the demo is? Maybe the demo doesn't have all the graphics codes as the full version? I think that would be possible.

If things come to the worst, try rolling back the Video Card driver, since at times updated version bugger up the cards at times. I don't know why, it just happens.

If you follow these steps you'll be able to 'roll back' the Video Card.

Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager

My video card is under the Display Adapter section, so I believe yours would be too. Double-click your video card, go into the driver tab and click 'Roll Back'.

Again, hope it helps.
