Can you sanction against wall running? - Lythrilux - 09-24-2014 We've all dealt with them, and we all hate them: Those traders who, in their desperate attempts to make the pirate as sour and as bitter as possible by wasting their time, will run all the way to the system wall. In my opinion, this is actually a form of trolling. Therefore, can we sanction wall runners under 1.2? Quote:1.2 Trolling or harassing other members of the community Although it may be better to ignore the wall runner, I feel this behavior should be discouraged at all times. EDIT: Quote:Can I actually just remind people that wall running also doesn't just apply to traders and pirates? RE: Can you sanction against wall running? - Binski - 09-24-2014 Probably would fall under abusing game exploits now. Well the sanction notice thread doesn't have any sanctions for that circumstance I've seen going back as far as I can remember. Means either they haven't been punishing for it, or no one's been filing reports over it. Its not trolling because you are not technically obligated to pirate them, let alone interact with them, so you can't act like they're the ones getting in your face or making you do anything. RE: Can you sanction against wall running? - Findarato Veneanar - 09-24-2014 In RP i think of it as legit, a transport ship would be able continue flying out into deep space away from a pirate thanks to their on board life support systems and extra room for food/water/tp stores. I think it is trolling when a pirate continues to chase a trader who goes to the effect of flying to the wall. Is it inRP when they magically explode as soon as they hit the system wall? I really don't think a transport would be equipped for such anyway. RE: Can you sanction against wall running? - Binski - 09-24-2014 Inrp I've heard it described as hitting the 'extra-heliospheric wall', and only ships fitted for inter stellar travel can survive the radiation environment out that far (as much background cosmic radiation and random matter gets pushed outwards by a star's heliosphere, creating a 'bubble' around it). So I also agree its inrp, if a ship wants to risk it, they risk it, they lose the time as well. Sometimes you just can't win em all, this is like pilots complaining that space is too big for their time. I think the space is there to be used, or else this isn't an open ended game. Its not like they're actually cheating, nothing about the game is altered, and you can't complain that people die when they fly into stars either, so one seems as inescapable as the other. EDIT: This is what I mean. Termination shock seems about right to me. RE: Can you sanction against wall running? - pillow - 09-24-2014 The worst thing about people that run to the wall is that they're basically avoiding an interaction on a - multiplayer - server. And that means they're just one more player that powertrades his way to his LNS CAU 8 Carrier. I think they should get sanctioned for it. I don't think transports could be equipped to fly straight for that long, and I don't consider it useful to the community for a trader to see a pirate, start cruise and fly as far away as possible, while staying completely silent and not giving any form of enjoyable RP on an RP server. I'm saying this, because usually people that Roleplay don't fly to the system wall. They either wait to get destroyed or pay the pirate. Plus, it's awfully ooRP to explode when you hit the wall. What, are those Ion Storms that have effects over the hull instead? Engines overheating maybe? Well, congrats. You just wasted valuable time, mister wall-runner. Note: I'm slightly mad because of RL. And I have a headache. I'm a baddie when this happens. RE: Can you sanction against wall running? - Ryunosuke - 09-24-2014 Many things seems unfair to some people, that is completely opened to your own criteria. Piracy is best done in groups, for this matter in particular get a faster ship, against a LF or Freighter they cant escape. If you cant pirate in group, or if your ship is not fitted forthe job, then save yourself a headache and give up chasing a target that you cant catch. RE: Can you sanction against wall running? - SnakThree - 09-24-2014 Would say to trade in groups too but oh wait. Only pirates must gang up to be effective, right? RE: Can you sanction against wall running? - Binski - 09-24-2014 Oh and this only really matters if you're in the same ship type as what you pursue. Even in a bomber, with speed buffs, you will eventually be able to overtake any transport, gunboat, cruiser or battleship. Pirating in groups does further eliminate this problem inrp, since you can always try to have someone in a freighter or LF with a good CD, and no escape of that kind will be possible. Unfortunately, even I in a transport face the problem of never being able to close the gap on other transports. OOOOOH SNAP On a more serious note, a bomber has a higher speed than a transport. Usually, people won't go for Freighters. Their cargo won't be worth much, so a pirate will leave the Freighter alone and go for the bigger guy. If the bigger guy runs to the system wall, he can be caught, but it takes a lot of time and patience. Yes, you might be able to just leave the baddie run to the wall. But you sometimes just want to kick their teeth in, y'know? Make 'em pay for wasting your time, by blowing them up and destroying their cargo. 8| ... I should be a prick and do that next time I log on a pirate. I haven't pirated someone in months, though. Time to learn how to do it again. 8| |
