and how do you get anything to freelancer with blender?

I'm using metasequoia personally. I seriously doubt anyone use milkshape here to do modelling.

how about...

putting the models into the game directory and using the latest versions of the same software that makes your models compatible from the MS3d format?

Its the world's fault that a tool so incredible is getting neglected, not MY fault...

DeiSol I'm sorry but your attitude is completely wrong and ill informed.

With that being said I'm editing this post as you read it to include the actualy reasoning behind the need to employ Milkshape for the creation, or atleast implementation of custom made ships for Freelancer.

Edit:

Now before you jump down my throat over being a fan of Milkshape you should be aware that I do all of my modeling Autodesk 3ds Max. This is a professional modeling suite and is more than capable of tackling the task, and was in fact what was used by DigitalAnvil to create the original vanilla ships.

1). Milkshape 3d does not suck, it is incredibly powerful for a minimal cost modeling application, and capable of supporting well over two dozen proprietary game formats. Having been started a modding tool for Half-Life it is lacking in more complex tools, but it has everything you need in it. Community support, vast amounts of tutorials, an SDK to allow for new plug-ins to be developed. Its interface is even so easy that a novice with time can begin to learn, something that cannot be said for Blender(Which in its own right is also a power application).

2). Your definition of proper is wrong, what is proper to you is not to someone else. Modeling is a very subjective and personal form of craft, each person(s) while trained in several applications will always have one they favour, and for a large part of the modding community online that is Milkshape for reasons I have already listed.

3). We need Milkshape, there is no way for us to export any of the new in-game content I'm sure you are a fan of. The .CMP and .3db exporters are Milkshape exclusive, meaning that there is no way other than to either export your mesh into Milkshape, or model your mes directly in Milkshape to implement your creation. And when I say everything, I mean everything. Ships, stations, .SUR files, weapon and ship icons.

See? I meant everything when I used the world. Should you ask, there may in the future be other ways, but for now this is the system that all of us who model for Freelancer must use.

Now with that being said I'm guessing you've had some difficulties, if you'd like any help or commentary you can contact me and I'll see if I can be of assistance. But please don't make a thread like this trashing software that people work hard to develop, and other people work hard to master.
