Question about shooting to destroy turrets/equipment.. - Lupusy - 09-24-2008

Sometimes I read i forums about how capships can get their turrets "blown off" (?) or lose equipment in a shooting fight or with missiles..?

Does this mean that cap ships have the risk of getting their turrets etc destroyed before the ship explodes? Can we actually aim for specific turrets..?

You can sub-target any of the visible components on any of the currently flyable ships, whether you'll be able to shoot them off is another matter entirely.

You can also shoot the turrets of stations.

Had great fun doing it to newark...

blowing up someone's weapons is not always the best course to disabling them in a fight.

Personally, whenever I'm fighting a fighter or bomber, the first thing I target sub-systems wise is the thruster. A player without a thruster cannot dodge fire nearly as well as they normally would.

The second system I target is generally a supernova if the target is a bomber. On large capships, you actually dont want to target 'heavy' weapons first, you want to take out 'normal' turrets. Heavy weapons like the light mortars, mortars, battle razors, etc. are very hard to aim with, and use a lot of energy - if you can disable their more conventional weapons it increases your chances of winning the fight.

Last night I got jumped by Xenos. At first just one and considering I was flying a collector I was doing well. Close fight. Then his friend came along. Before long I realised that my weapons were being destroyed. All I had left was the nuke mine dropper. I barely escaped alive.

It's extremely hard to lose your thruster, shield, SN, Inferno, or Razor. Try hitting a fighter with a missile from the front, when the thruster is on the back... and the SN just has so many hitpoints that you might as well blow the damn ship up before you blow the SN off.

Alternatively, CMs are the easiest to blow off. Guns are somewhere in the middle, and a couple of mines on a non-Vanilla ship will take 'em out.

I lost all my equipment yesterday in my havok, against a rogue missile boat. And I mean everything... shield, thruster SN etc. I made it alive though.

Blew (nearly) everything off of Joe Mctyre's Havok yesterday afternoon; all he had left was his shield, and even that was critically damaged.

The best way is to aim at the wings or fins. Sub targeting or shooting is really easy, and is best for ships like the corsair ships and the civilian ships. When they get their fins blown off, they lose the weapons that are mounted on that fin too.

... when you shoot them off -- does the equipment fall off the ship and can you tractor them in?.. and..

when you damage and "destroy" them does it you they cant be repaired and the ship must buy totally new ones..?

(ive never lost any sub system... or shot any)
