Is it very hard to get a nomad brain and nomad big brain...? - Lupusy - 09-25-2008

Orin's rp post in flood and the cambridge research institute's buy list had me interested..

i assume its done by killing nomad ships...

but.. is it easy to obtain these brains? orin's rp post in flood had me thinking maybe no one in freelancer really knows all there is to know about the nomad systems... maybe.. no ones been all the way through yet? (unlikely?)

Try it.
I'm sure them nomads would appreciate you farming them. Not like your killing anyone important you know.
In fact take an order Osiris with Liberty Guns and a Civilian ID.
They'd love you then.
While your at it you could dock on an outcast base.
Heck you could even, trade in diamonds from Rheinland and sell off your mother while you are there in nomad space.
Make sure that you disappear in 1 minute if the nomads talk to you. Wouldnt want them to mind control you.

:)

Assuming you are a properly authorized nomad researcher or scientist, the Order can provide nomad specimens for a small charge.

... Let's not be too sarcastic...

Honest question, give him a reasonable answer, eh? Not too much to ask, I hope.

Ok. A "reasonable" answer. Depending on how well equipt you are, you can take down nomads fairly easy. In order to obtain the brains and nomads you have to kill either a nomad fighter, nomad gunboat, or nomad battleship, depending on which you are looking for. Superior brain is in the Battleship, Minor brain in the Gunboat, and nomad in the fighters. Usually a whole fleet consists of 1 BS, 2 GB, and 5 fighters. Sometimes two fleets will be combined so its twice that many. Other occasions you will encounter just 1-5 nomad fighters. Some say its really easy to face them, others say its really hard. But it all depends on what ship you are using, and how good your shield is. With my current loadout, I can take a fleet out in roughly 10-20 minutes without my shields going down. My advice for you, no jousting the fighters, and if you encounter a fleet go after the fighters, then GB, then BS

Capital plan, i find a nicely outfitted gunboat is sufficient enough in doing all that. (just don't use 3 razors and 4 cerebus turrets) Also, you'll have plenty of cargo space in a gunboat. unless you get cap armor, to store the nomads.

It's harder than it is for the Nomads to get your soft, pink brain.

Sorry. Point taken.
Yes. by..."farming" nomads you can get their brains.
I advise against it though.

This order of proceeding with the killing goes to all NPC fleets. Fighters are usually independent and pursue you where ever you go. GBs fly in formation with the bigger ship. So if you kill the bigger ship first they become independents like fighters and will chase you down. Then you are in trouble.

While the BS (or cruiser) has the biggest firepower, those GBs greatly enhance the damage to you or your shields and the since they are weaker and flying very easy and predictable speed along the cap it's pretty easy to pop them.

In bomber I would say I take on the GBs first since I can dodge most of the fire from the fighters anyway, but just the volume of fire ensures that I get eroded over time surely if those GBs are there.

One tactic is to draw the fighters away from the convoy, but sometimes I get so disoriented that I actually lose the contact with the BS and GBs (which are the main objective anyway), so I prefer sticking closer to the main ships.
