Friendly Reminder! - Walker - 09-28-2008

Well ive read through several dozen message dumps, RP-hub posts...

Just as a reminder,
Things like Chardonnay, Truth Serum, REAL Marajuana (Synth exists), Cocaine, Tequila...

Most plants, animals, and drugs from Earth are not in Sirius...

They where not brought from Earth and the odds are finding the exact same things in Sirius are in 1 to a 1,000,000.

Thank ya!

I'd reckon that a truth serum would exist. Might not be the exact same stuff, but I'd be surprised if they hadn't developed some even more advanced version.

Friendly Reminder! - Tenacity - 09-28-2008

Some things do. I was talking to another player the other day who said he liked smoking tobacco...

So, my response was "rare stuff, and expensive... i think the only places that still grow tobacco are cambridge and stuttgart"

You can fit some things in, it isnt unreasonable to think that more common plants and such made the trip with us - or at least seeds of those plants. Example, Kusari still has earth rice and from it ricewine (saki).

Friendly Reminder! - Linkus - 09-28-2008

Humanity wouldn't just ditch everything it has back with Earth etc. It simply couldn't afford to risk leaving all they know behind and only bring humans with them. No doubt they brought vegetation etc. Even seed banks would be a great help.

But, they didn't bring marijuana because they didn't see it as a necessity. Unfortunately they left grandma's cookie recipe on Earth too:(

Friendly Reminder! - jshkornmiller - 09-28-2008

i would think they would bring seed banks and even animal DNA to provide us with things we need. What if we came here and none of the plants and animals were edible by humans? i think they would have thought of that before they launched the sleeper ships.

& where do those odds come from if not simply pulled out of the air?

I'll agree about the pot, but in order for you to attempt to pidgeonhole the boundries of someone's RP postings & try to pass it off as a 'reminder' you have to show proof.

My argument:

Today, there are alcohol recepies that are hundreds & hundreds of years old...& just because over 800 years have past in Sirius since humans left earth does not mean that the knowledge of distilling alcohol suddenly & magically dissapears...

or the know-how for a chemist to make sodium penethol (truth serum) for that matter...& considering our current knowledge of cloning, then it's not a stretch of the imagination to give the benefit of the doubt to repopulating Sirius w/ plants & animals originating from earth.

As far as I can tell, the only concrete thing you have to go on for this post is the info card on the synth pot.

The rest is just your opinion.

Friendly Reminder! - Zelot - 09-28-2008

Also thinking about Pot, the inference is that no Marijuana was brought on the sleeper ships. The thought that there would be no plants to be smoked that play with one's brains is a bit silly. Also, who know what was on the Frenches sleeper ship, maybe they have some. This is just to prove a point about limiting other peoples RP, unless you have solid evidence something doesnt exist, dont limit people. Doug used to RP that his AFA had a farm that grew Tobacco. Now can you really tell me thats imposable? Humans have been making alcohol for at least three thousand years, you think it just stops existing? I can go into my bar drink a beer that has been being brewed the same way for 800 years.

About things like Tequila. Even if it's not around in its current form, there seems to be the possibility that after arriving there was another distilled beverage created that was named the same either out of nostalgia or because it fit a similar role.

Friendly Reminder! - DarthCloakedGuy - 09-28-2008

What about that thief from SP? He smoked cigarettes...
