Clear Sky Research Federation

Introduction

Clear Sky Research Federation is a privately-owned and operated scientific concern, currently led by Scientific Director Edward Rybarczyk out of the Coronado System. A ragtag group of scientists and engineers, CSRF is dedicated to the investigation and understanding of ion anomalies, superluminal travel, wormhole theory, and photo-adaptive camouflage. They are currently rebuilding their assets after losing a significant amount of their research and merchant fleet due to an unknown incident.

Background

Clear Sky Research Federation was founded as an ecological research operation on planet Earth during the late 21st century. Primarily concerned with the well-being of Earth's rapidly decaying ecosphere, (hence giving the Federation it's name), Clear Sky remained a relatively unimportant but stable company until the dawn of war, circa 2100 C.E. The current CEO of the time, David Stevenson, noted the rapid increase in war-time buildup and heavily re-geared Clear Sky's original purpose from an ecological to an astrophysical level. Beginning research into anti-gravity, matter/anti-matter warheads, and wormhole theory, Clear Sky became part of the forefront of Alliance military technological developments up until the Exodus.

For roughly one-hundred years, Clear Sky managed to build up a sizable capital by selling their highly-valued technological developments to the Alliance, wishing for an advantage to end the deadlock between themselves and the Coalition. Eventually, however, the Coalition was able to outwit, or outstrategize, or...whatever it may be, and the Alliance was shoved into a corner. Logan Stevenson, now CEO of Clear Sky, panicked as he realized the end of his company as a whole - or so he thought. Using the company's massive capital to secure a space for his organization aboard the Liberty, himself and fifty other scientists and engineers lifted off and sailed past the Coalition blockade into unknown territory.

After drifting through space for hundreds of years in suspended animation, Liberty eventually fell into orbit around Planet Manhattan, eventually landing on the surface and depositing its passengers, the Clear Sky Research team being among them. They became an integral part of the colonial process, as would any scientist or engineer - some of the more higher-level technologies had to simply be rediscovered, as they were deemed unimportant to store aboard the limited space the Liberty offered. In addition, many new structures and edifices would have to be produced in order to create habitation for the surviving population of the Alliance, and Stevenson wished to become as integral in that process as possible.

However, tragedy struck. Stevenson was murdered not thirty days after the Liberty landed over a dispute with one of his workers. Losing the empowered leadership that had treated Clear Sky so well, the federation was doomed to thrash and die in the pit of failed attempts at early corporations and businesses. But, somehow, they survived - if barely. The company re-tooled itself to a small-time research foundation, looking to produce small improvements on everyday items and the general life of the early Sirian, rather than reach for the stars as they once had. It was a more practical profession, given the times, but it wasn't what Stevenson had intended.

Clear Sky maintained this relative seclusion for the next eight hundred years. They fell in and out of recession, changed names more than a dozen times, and essentially functioned as a shell of its former self up until 780 A.S. An enterprising young man by the name of Edward Rybarczyk, recently having risen out of the ranks of business academy, had been prowling around for a company to invest into when he discovered Life Support Solutions, Inc. One of the latest amalgamations between Clear Sky and other, failing small businesses, LSS Inc. was a small-time oxygen compressor manufacturer for aging transport vessels that relied on old, air-cooled feedback loops. Rybarczyk, hoping to take the company and push it in new, interesting directions, took the LSS crew and began to push them toward manufacturing new parts for spacecraft, including high performance engines, high-powered weaponry, and fusion-powered reactor systems. He also hired out-of-work researchers and pressed them into the newly-renamed Clear Sky Research Division, hoping they would help to create the momentum the manufacturing department required to innovate pre-Nomad War.

With the appearance of the Nomads, all four of the Sirian Houses were decimated, nearly left in ruin by their machinations. Clear Sky used the following rebuilding period to their advantage, seizing control of many alien artifacts and studying them in low-security, rarely-patrolled independent worlds. Using their discoveries to augment their existing designs, Clear Sky's impression (while yet small) became felt on the Libertonian industry. However, their reliance on alien artifacts proved too great, and eventually they were discovered and forced out of Liberty due to their smuggling ways. Living in a nomadic fleet of science and merchant vessels basing out of the Barrier nebula, Rybarczyk threw away his Libertonian ties and revamped the company into a federation of scientists and engineers wishing to study the secrets of the Universe away from the prying - and restricting - eyes of the House authorities.

Diplomacy

Allied: None

Friendly: Zoners

Neutral: All factions not listed

Unfriendly: None

Hostile: The Nomads

Goals

- Research and understand the 'secrets of the universe' - e.g. wormhole theory, anti-matter, dark energy, and gravitational manipulation.
- Establish and expand Clear Sky's influence as a research institution throughout Sirius.
- Collect and maintain a library of extraterrestrial artifacts.

Zone of Influence

Clear Sky's zone of influence is currently limited to the Bretonian corridor, namely the Taus, Coronado, Inverness, Cortez and Magellan. Clear Sky is known to operate lightly within Liberty and Bretonia but as their primary objectives concern the usage of less than legal artifacts to achieve their means, their operation within the Houses remains limited.

I am sort of tempted to point out that as a group using a single tag, you should also be using the same ID, if possible.
However, the Researcher ID is not that much different from the FL ID, so this could work. Not to mention that you are indeed using a ZOI.

Let's see where this goes.

For all intents and purposes, Clear Sky is using the Freelancer ID. However, we will have (in the future) SRPed ships using the Researcher ID. As we can't have (as far as I'm aware) the Researcher ID for the entire faction, this is the best compromise we can make at this time. As the situation develops, of course, we'll look into different means.

Why don't you join up with IRG?

RE: Clear Sky | Information and Feedback - Corile - 02-06-2015

You've killed approximately 34 kittens by writing your entire post in Courier New.

Could be worse, could be Comic Sans

This.

I don't understand the mentality of creating new factions, clones (not necessarily similiar) of ones already existing.
But whatever, it doesn't look that bad on the sheets. I'll see you on the streets.

Rivality, to be more precise I believe. It's like you questioned why Rosenkov won't merge with Knight or that other corporation I can't recall right now: difference in faction philosophy, perhaps.

RE: Clear Sky | Information and Feedback - Angry Zoner - 02-06-2015

Rivalry is rivalry, my point was that Disco doesn't have that much people to feed all new factions with members also there is actually many researcher groups. I can understand that somebody wants his own idea, and might dislike something of other similiar faction.

That doesn't mean I don't wish luck, oh no. I actually like the idea.

And your example is kinda valid, because Rosenkov and Knight are not similiar almost at all - R. are researchers, while K. are base suppliers. Unless your point is they could merge to create something bigger?
