Yep. Not needed. Especially the dual missiles made it soooo dangerous for snubs, as these things track amazingly well and there is no survival chance even if you are only close to the detonation.

Aren't they only found on capital planets? Why would enemy snubs be buzzing around Manhattan anyways.
I could agree with removing nom-pulse guns from stations (even though people are whining about the pulse weapons on jump gates), but not from NPC battleships

I find it more than a solid explanation. It's maximum security object, which should be avoided as much as possible, if you are not welcome there.
