Do you think pirate power should equal lawfuls or should lawfuls have more in FL..? - Lupusy - 10-02-2008 i guess this is old news but i suspect most people know the Bounty Hunter Battlecruiser (BH BC) is kinda overpowered because :- 1) Only lawfuls have access to Battlecruiser class cruisers with 2.7 million units of power output 2) The pirates etc have to make do with cruisers with 1.4 million units of power output. Given BC's cost half that of battleships, this means that dollar for dollar the lawfuls can whip the pirates' ass provided bountyhunter BCs are around - (unless pirates mass with bombers etc). So my question is this :- If you were to design a FL style open space saga mod, would you give pirates and lawfuls access to exactly the same ships/weaponry, or would you make them different? imho, it hink they should be given access to identical and equal equipment -- becaus ein the end the pirates are really a separate state on their own and FL is in itself truly about a war vetween two or more sovereign states. so the game will be made much more balanced and enjoyable for everyone if all had access to equal equipment. The true "pirates" then become players who conduct raiding parties into each other's territory. what do you think? nb: i actually dont like how the BH BC looks. i dont like the corellian corvette look. so im hesitant to use it. You make Assassins and Hunters mortal enemies and each has someone top kill--besides everyone else. Do you think pirate power should equal lawfuls or should lawfuls have more in FL..? - Tenacity - 10-02-2008 both major 'pirate' factions also have battleships at their disposal. And to be honest, if someone comes at you with a big cap, use a bomber, everybody is capable of using bombers and you're even allowed to pirate in them. Do you think pirate power should equal lawfuls or should lawfuls have more in FL..? - MajorMcCain - 10-02-2008 Assassins!? But... why go off creatin a new chain when there's something already in place... Us mercenaries need work. DAMN IT! (Besides. We'd get overrun with people using "Altair" as their character name). But... why go off creatin a new chain when there's something already in place... Us mercenaries need work. DAMN IT! I'd love to see that role go to mercs but the merc id with ships equal to the BHs just compounds the problems. Now you have BHs and Mercs flying around killing whoever they wish. Mercs could be the "assassins" but then they wouldn't have the flexibility they currently have as they would need to be criminally aligened and set against BHs to balance. I'd be all for mercs as that but it would require a redefinition of their ID and function and alignments. You'd just have to be more "selective" of the people you choose. Yes, bounty hunter battlecruisers are a pain in the ass. No, you cant pirate in anything larger than a gunboat. Tip: 2 bombers flown by even half-decent players can take out a battlecruiser, and even a battleship depending on player skill variances. Bombers are the most effective craft for pirating as well. Use what you're given instead of crying about it. If it really comes down to wanting a bigger capship to deal with the enemy capships, both outcasts and corsairs have battleships available to them. Do you think pirate power should equal lawfuls or should lawfuls have more in FL..? - Baltar - 10-02-2008 Simple answer to your question regarding pirates having battle cruiser equivalents ... regardless of reality or fair play ... subconsciously we all want the good guy to win in the end. As much as I'd like to see more powerful ships for pirates ... it will never happen. In fact I don't want an uber-pirate vessel. I just want one that doesn't turn to melted butter when a bounty hunter shows up. I'd like better armor and shielding to counteract the heavy weapons. Pirate vessels were not designed for combating military vessels ... but they should be faster, more maneuverable and a tad bit harder to kill than they are now. That ... or we need to change the rules for bounty hunters ... that I am in favor of. Ever watch "Dog the Bounty Hunter"? Does he drive a tank? Does he own bazooka? No ... he goes in with his SUV and a pistol. ' Wrote:both major 'pirate' factions also have battleships at their disposal. Corsairs and Outcasts have battleships ... but not battle cruisers. And together, the Outcasts and Corsairs WOULD have been the 5th house ... the Hespania. All the Bounty Hunter capital ships would have to hightail it back to the Omicrons and do their actual job, instead of revenging traders. Erm...isn't that what mercs are for? hehe. AND: For obvious RP reasons, lawfuls should, by right, have access to slightly better ships. Given the fact that they don't have to pillage and plunder for their stuff and what not. Pirates etc... have access to VERY deadly weaponry though. IE: Inferno on a fighter. PEW PEW= OUCH. Decent bomber pilots can take a BHBC as stated by tenasty. (hehe) And if you haven't noticed: War= who has bigger/better weaponry, not who's the better pilot. (in most case scenarios) |
