Flack/Missile/mortar launch method - Vycos - 04-05-2015 I would like to propose a change to how flack turrets, missiles and mortars launched. This of course only affect ships that are able to mount flack turrets and mortars. These are mostly capital ships that dont ever have mines mounted. And vica versa ships that mount torpedoes, mines generally not capable of mounting the above mentioned heavy weaponary. As of now if i have missile and flack mounted and i launch one missile from its hot key it triggers flak and missile at the same time. This is not always prefered since if i fight a bommber and flacking novas, i am also burning through missiles. Vica versa if i intend to fire a missile i might want to consrve a minor amount of energy by not firing a flack turret if it's not neccecary. As to mortars, since ships capable of launching them are not usually able to launch torpedoes, so here is what i would like to suggest: Launch Mine hotkey to trigger flack turret, instead of the Launch Missile hotkey. Launch Torpedo hotkey to trigger mortars fire. I gave it some thought and i think it would improve the combat experience, and save some time on switching weapon groups, and would reduce the number of weapon groups needed. Please feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts. Vycos RE: Flack/Missile/mortar launch method - Swifty - 04-05-2015 How about not changing anything else and leave things how they are for once? RE: Flack/Missile/mortar launch method - Gondoros - 04-05-2015 There is a very easy solution for your problem and it doesn't require changing anything. Use weapon groups. IMO it doesn't take that much time to use them. RE: Flack/Missile/mortar launch method - Pancakes - 04-05-2015 Or you can just learn to use weapon groups. RE: Flack/Missile/mortar launch method - Hidamari - 04-05-2015 here you go RE: Flack/Missile/mortar launch method - Vycos - 04-05-2015 I am well aware of how weapon groups work, and use them all the time. The intent behind the suggestion is to eliminate the need of weapon group for Flack, Missile, Mortars. and make the combat more fluid, slightly of course but still. Why should't i consider something that could improve it, and making it more effective. Think outside of the box. RE: Flack/Missile/mortar launch method - Roman.Scott - 04-05-2015 I just gave my flak weapon group it's own shortcut. That way I don't have to switch from my primaries and can still fire the flak whenever I need. So, why would you need other six groups? Changing something in game may cause new bugs, so developers might be against doing that... RE: Flack/Missile/mortar launch method - Connor - 04-05-2015 What we have is fine. There's no need to change it at all. Just use groups. RE: Flack/Missile/mortar launch method - Vycos - 04-05-2015 I am a bit surprised by some of the reactions, most of them are quite "elaborate". Lets draw a conclusion here. Does this recommendation cause a loss of any ability or decreases the potential game experience? I say, NO Does this recommendation cause negative impact on the flow of combat. I say, NO Is it a normal behavior that flack and missile launch from the same hot key? I say, NO Would it slightly improve the combat experience? Yes Do people fear, resist, and fight change? Even if it is for the better? Absolutely YES Anyway, I am always into UI, User experience, and application mechanic improvements, as i am student of software development. No need to hate the good ideas ![]() It is scary tho that what i could expect from users when i actually get my hand on a more, higher utilized application. My first reaction was pulling my hair on how people can be so narrow sighted, and don't understand that this would make it better ![]() But i absolutely respect everyone's sovereign opinion. If it makes sense to implement, i think it would be cool. If not, i at least tried, and learned a lot about how users react form minor changes in their beloved application. Cheers |
