Suddenly.. im worried about spending big on cap ships before 485 arrives - Lupusy - 10-06-2008

having read through the proposed ID changes here :-
http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=22908

im worried how to spend for the next big ship.

- should one buy a cap ship cruiser or above? no... it looks like only Guard Ids will be allowed to have caps, and only special players at that. i dont know what will happen to people with caps who dont have guard ids for them. Also you can't fly your cap outside "zones of influence" and i dont know what they are for all the guard factions.... (edit: Tenacity pointed out you can fly outside guard systems with caps below)

- freelancers can now be freely (?) attacked by any unlawfuls.

- traders cannot get the biggest trading ships anymore, unless they belong to a trading faction id and not generic trader id...

- im not even sure you need to demand cargo before shooting anymore... (edit" Tenacity clarified this below)

anyone else see the coming changes in the same way?
when do you think 485 will arrive..?

if you can wait - wait for 4.85 to be released before you buy a larger ship ( large = something expensive in that case ) - quite some ships experience changes that are only in effect when the ship is bourght after those changes were made ( like powerplant changes etc. )

so if you want to take full advantage of a ships characteristics, you might like to wait for 4.85. - however, its unclear when 4.85 is being released, so it could still be some time..... and not all ships are being changed anyway.. but it would be too much to tell which ship gets a change and what ships won t. - when its about the ID changes, - not 100% sure, but you might decide upon what the official ID suggestions say in the threat here on the forum. - i think its not 100% decided yet, but close enough.

but.. will they be removing the rule about asking for money before shooting a trader ? because thats quite a big change.. i dont mind, its just a mental shift i guess..

where does it say you cant take a capship out of your zone of influence?

It says you can only hunt criminals/terrorists/etc. in your zone of influence, but you should still be fully capable of going into enemy territory - if they denied us that ability, this mod would get real boring, real fast.

Anyhow, anyone with a capship right now should be kissing butt with the faction that controls their guard system, and should be working on maxxing guard faction rep, so that they're allowed to buy the guard ID when 4.85 is out - otherwise they'll probably have to give up their ship.

you're right they can go outside their zoi but...

"Corsair Guard ID Edited

Pilot carrying this ID is a Corsair Guard.

Corsair Guards can:

* Attack at will within their Zone of Influence any:
o Bretonia Mining and Manufacturing
o Ships carrying Cardamine, VIPs or Passengers
...
* Engage bounty hunters, mercenaries, freelancers and lawfuls
* Participate in military operations on unlawful side
* Scan for contraband and demand cargo
* Fulfil bounty contracts
* Trade
....
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Transports, Gunboats, Cruisers (limited), Battleships (limited)..."

i don't get it?... they can attack BMM and "smugglers" in their zoi at will - how should they be treated differently when encountering them outside their zoi..?
if encountered outside -- does that mean they cannot be attacked at will.., but must be asked beforehand....?

im sure i must be missing something simple. also, maybe all these new changes are still drafts under work.

what this means is that pirate groups can 'police' their own space. Outside of the corsair zoi (gamma/guard system), corsairs have to stick to normal pirating rules - demanding money/cargo before killing the target.

Why even have cap ships in the game with these ID's? Why not just drop them?
