PoB Ammo Production Factory? - nOmnomnOm - 04-07-2015

So we all know Toxic Waste is useless.
We all know Nuclear Devices is quite useless.

And at least in my point of view Missiles and Mines and Torps and NOVAS and all that are spam-able and could be OP.
(not to say that they are OP but hear me out. Not really the discussion to say if they are OP or not)

So what if we could use commodities to make ammo on bases that we could then use in fights?
These would include the Nuclear Mines, NOVAs, Torps, and some missiles that are good.

What will this do?

>Makes more interest in PoB and another thing to sell.
>Makes all these ammo less spam-able becasue they are worth more so you wana not waste them.
>If they are spammed then like... more money for the creator.
>NPC bases will have the other things such as Ripper Mines and Screamer Mines and standard stuff while the players can RP bargan with the good ammo.
>Ammo becomes more valuable.
>Commodities that are underused can be used for something such as:
- Toxic Waste (either a needed material or a bi-product that you need to ship out)
- Nuclear Devices
- Munitions
- Black Market Munitions?? (they are good already but just for argument sake)
- And I dunno ... like much more things in general.


Ofc i am not targeting anyone that uses ammo and all that. It is just an idea that I thought of and am interested in the feedback.

While I think allowing PoBs to produce more 'mundane' things (compared to cloaks and jumpdrives) isn't a bad idea, I don't think it's such a great idea to force players to purchase ammo for currently widely - and freely - available weapons from other players with limited stock. Mines are kind of a big deal in snub PvP.

yeah... all i am saying is like.... you could technically encourage more RP with venders and fighters this way and introduce the less used mines or other ammo to a fight but you will need to RP and buy from a player the better stuff.

Also this can fix in part the problem of having something overpowered by balancing the cost and increasing the value in that thing?

That's not really how Discovery's balance works, however. A 2,000,000 credit ship is not objectively worse than a 20,000,000 credit ship (by this I mean ship, not ship plus armour or something).

If something is overpowered, then it should be nerfed until it is no longer overpowered. Increasing the cost is not the right solution as far as I'm concerned.

What I am saying is that the ammo would be partially less suitable to being spammed and used wisely.
From what I understand if there is something that is more powerful then it costs more to use , right?

I dunno. you are right that to effectively nerf something from being OP you dont fix the prices. What i am suggesting though is making the process also effect the carelessness of the ammo.

Also suicide will be less of an issue becasue you would want to KEEP the ammo you got off someone.

The ammo/equipment produced wouldn't have to be OP, but more like just "higher tier." Nukes and Screamers aren't OPed compared to Swatters...they're just the next level up.

Well also from the survey that the davs made we can see that there are plans to have PoBs make cloak "ammo"
So we know it is possible.

So another factory for weapon ammo could be cool too!
A blackmarket one for the baddies and a normal one for the good guys.
Difference is that one will need munitions and the other will need black market munitions.
