Kogane no Kitsune Dantai, KKD|
(The Golden Fox Organisation, or just "the Organisation")
ID/IFF: Hogosha



ABSTRACT

From humble beginnings as a small gang of unemployed rice farmers turned criminals, the Kogane no Kitsune Dantai has become a household name on Planet Kyushu. Samura's continued tolerance of the Organisation's involvement in Kyushu's rice industry is largely due to their shared vision for the planet's future, a carefully maintained tolerance which the Organisation relies upon for its own future.

A public face of family-friendly rice restaurants and humanitarian aid work has earned the Organisation strong support amongst the citizens of Kyushu. However, to say that the local police force treats the KKD a bit more sceptically could be seen as a slight understatement. Although a vast number of murders and disappearances have been linked to the Organisation's activities a conviction has never stuck against a key member, a fact which inflicts the most severe frustration upon local law enforcement.

The Kogane no Kitsune Dantai have woven themselves a comfortable nest on Planet Kyushu and their ambitious yet tentative first steps into space may bring insurmountable challenges, but also the potential of almost limitless reward. Dwarfed by the interstellar corporations and criminal gangs swarming the tradelanes of Sirius, the Organisation's future will depend upon the alliances it can build and the business relationships it can cultivate beyond its traditional borders.



OBJECTIVES

Primary:
- Expand the influence of the Kogane no Kitsune Dantai
- Increase Kyushu's share of the Sirius food markets, preferably at the expense of Synth Foods

Secondary:
- Open new markets for the Organisation, obtain shares and interests in interstellar corporations
- Control or neutralise smuggling operations across Sirius in line with the Organisation's ethical code

CODE OF HONOUR

1. All members should conduct themselves with dignity, honour and the utmost respect for others at all times. (Of course noting the observable failures of our enemies is acceptable, assuming you can do this in a civilized manner)

2. The undertaking of illegal activities within Bretonia, Gallia, Kusari, Liberty and Rheinland administered space is banned, except where the leadership of the Organisation sees fit to allow such activity.

3. Where illegal activities are allowed in House space, the utmost discretion is expected from the members of the Organisation. If a member is apprehended by house security forces they are expected to comply with any demands made by the officers of the law rapidly and politely. The leadership will expect to recieve a report detailing any incident of this nature from the member involved.

4. Burglary, robbery and piracy of legitimate traders are strictly forbidden. The only exception to this rule is the destruction of cargo hauled by our enemies and rivals, or extortion of those conducting criminal activities.

5. Tradition is the cornerstone of our way of life. Possession and/or consumption of drugs or synthetic foods is not tolerated within the Organisation.

6. In public all members should wear trousers and a long-sleeved shirt, a suit or formal kimono. Public display of tatoos is strictly forbidden.

7. Any motorized transportation owned by members of the Organisation should be of Kusari manufacture, both on and off-planet. Rental or leasing of non-Kusari groundcars is tolerated where other alternatives are unavailable in other Houses.

8. When outside of Kusari space, members are ambassadors of our way of life. Promotion of Kusari tradition and produce is an encouraged and expected activity of members when in other Houses.

TIMELINE


774AS: As Synth Paste begins to flood the Kusari markets disenfranchised rice farmers begin to flood the urban centers of Planet Kyushu looking for work.

775AS: After nearly a year of sparodic work and sleeping rough, many of the ex-rice farmers begin to search for means to support themselves outside of the law.

778AS: A group of former rice farmers who have turned their hand to a number of criminal activities begin meeting regularly at the Cherry Blossom Sake Bar on Kitsune Doro, Kagoshima City, Planet Kyushu. The Kitsune Doro Shakai, or Fox Road Society, is formed.

782AS: The membership of the Kitsune Doro Shaki is increasing on an almost daily basis. The members of the Society now include not only former farmers, but businessmen, accountants, lawyers, seasoned thugs and ex-police. Money begins to exchange hands with low-level politicians and law enforcers and the Society is able to operate with impunity within the bounds of Kagoshima, operating as middle-men for illicit deals and running protection rackets.

785AS: The Society enters a protection contract with the massive Denpun Rice Farm. Later that year Denpun is the first of many rice farms to pay the Society's fees in shares rather than credits after a bad harvest. Despite an initially sceptical reaction from local Samura executives, the deal moves ahead after reassurances are given by Society representatives about their motives and interests in the business.

788AS: The ruthless Minoru Fujiwara is inaugurated as the first true leader of the Society. Following over two years of profits far outstripping the initial protection fee for the Denpun Rice Farm, the keen minded Fujiwara makes corporate share acquisition a Society policy. The future of the Kitsune Doro Shaki becomes inextricably tied to that of the Kyushu rice industry as the Society continues to build its portfolio of shares in the rice production industry. The influence of the gang begins to reach beyond their local district.

792AS: The acquisition and re-branding of the small Kagoshima Spice rice house chain marks the foundation of the Kitsune Rice House chain, destined to become a popular dinner destination for the citizens of Kyushu.

799AS: Kitsune Doro Shaki begins providing food packages to the poorest neighbourhoods of Kagoshima, rallying popular sympathy and support for the Society.

808AS: A despute over territory with the neighbouring "Kogane no Kiba" (The Golden Fang) begins a long term feud, which culminates in Fujiwara committing the Foxes to all out war against the Kogane no Kiba.

809AS: Fujiwara's sweet and frequent victories over the Kogane no Kiba begin to sour as the Kyushu Police Department take a keen interest in the Society's affairs.

810AS: The Kogane no Kiba begin to gain the upper hand in the street-war in Kagoshima. Losses to the Society's membership due to arrests and murders began to reach breaking point. Rokurota Mifune, a young and ambitious Society member, holds and expands a number of territories in the south of the city. His successes win him strong support amongst the members of the Fox Street Society.

811AS: Despite the successes of Mifune, the Society as a whole is suffering under the assault of the Kogane no Kiba, numbers are dwindling and recruitment is at an all-time low.

813AS: The Oyabun (Leaders) of the Kitsunesutorito Shaki, the Kogane no Kiba, some smaller Syndicates and most of their lieutenants are killed within 2 minutes of midnight on the new year, 47 honourable men and women in total. Although the Kyushu Police Department arrested 7 members of the Kitsune Doro Shaki in connection with the killings, the evidence available was not strong enough to secure a single conviction. All 47 murder investigations are listed to this day as "Open". By 06:00, Sirius Standard Time, representatives from across Kagoshima had gathered at the Cherry Blossom Bar on Fox Road. When the gathered crowd had settled, Mifune gave the representatives of the local syndicates a simple ultimatum: "join me or prepare for war".

Their leaderships decimated, most gangs surrender their territories to Mifune's control. Mifune then extends a hand of friendship to his enemy, and technically more powerful rival, by offering to merge the Fox Street Society with the Golden Fang. The Golden Fang were even given precedence in the name of the new syndicate: Kogane no Kitsune Dantai, The Golden Fox Organisation.

814AS: Mifune brings radical social reforms to the newly formed KKD, requiring members to uphold dignity, honour and respect above all other considerations. Shows of disrespect to the authorities, drug abuse and even display of tattoos in public can incur physical dismemberment, as a reminder of the offender's indiscretion. Criminal activity by members of the Organisation is banned except where explicit permission is given by the leadership.

Crime in the Kagoshima district falls dramatically as large numbers of cardamine dealers go missing or turn up dead, many other criminals either join the KKD or find themselves tied up outside local police precincts along with a bag of evidence linking them to criminal activities.

815AS: With a solidified hold upon the entire Kagoshima district the Kogane no Kitsune Dantai begins to diversify its operations, purchasing a number of transport and packaging businesses. The Organisation now has control over a large portion of the rice market from field to home, cutting out the middle-men and boosting profits by a large margin. The Kitsune Rice House chain is rebranded as the Golden Fox Rice House and new branches are opened in most of the major urban centres of Planet Kyushu.

Strategic purchases of new farms across Kyushu expands the KKD's influence to a planet-wide scale. The only major obstacle to further expansion of the Organisation is the declining export demand for Kyushu rice, Mifune begins to make plans for off-planet operations.

821AS: While attending a business meeting Rokurota Mifune is gunned down by an assassin of the Barison, a gang of cardamine dealers from the Miyazaki District. As second in command, Toshiro Makabe takes immediate charge of the organisation. 39 hours after Mifune's death is the last reported sighting of a living member of the Barison Gang.

Makabe and his lieutenants continue Mifune's plans to extend the Organisation's influence beyond Planet Kyushu, sending agents out to the other planets of Kusari to make contacts with local business and organised crime leaders.

It is not. I think guy here points out more peaceful way of making Kyushu Rice more demanded, rather than attacking every Synth vessel in order to do so. It's about business and cultural expansion, not about direct assault and piracy onto Synth Foods.

Erm... couldn't really have put it better myself.

Not to say that the KKD would NEVER destroy Synth cargos, but there is a time and a place. Any 'unlawful' activities would be strictly regulated in order to maintain good relationships with the Houses.

But yes, I can understand seeing similarities with FA, because there are similarities, the KKD is supposed to have originated at the same time, in the same place and for the same reasons as FA, but rather than looking for a political solution to their problems, the KKD is profit-driven organisation. Sort of the dark side of the FA coin.

If you were to ask a KKD member they would probably tell you that they admire the FA (and they would to an extent), but in reality their view of the FA is rather cynical. While both organisations revere Kusari traditions and culture, the KKD wants to build something new for themselves, rather than taking the FA's stance of trying to regain something that was lost years ago.

To sum up: there's no hate towards Synth (well maybe a little bit of resentment from the older members who still remember their lost childhood paddy fields), but they are by far the biggest threat to the Organisation's primary businesses. It's not personal, it's strictly business (Tongue sorry couldn't help myself)

This looks thoughtfully written, and the departure from open piracy is an interesting alteration. I'm looking foreward to seeing how it pans out for you.

I do have a question diplomacy-wise though; what makes the Unioners, LWB, and Maquis unfriendly or hostile?

Peregrine should consider inviting your syndicate to [HA]. More numbers in one faction gives more chances that said faction might become official at some point.

@LunaticOnTheGrass I've not been around long enough to see much in the way of Hogosha RP with other factions, so this is based on the Hogosha /restart diplomacy.

Also, as they've not really had much contact with other in-game factions, the diplomacy with a lot of factions isn't really set from my point of view... I'll do an edit on the original post tomorrow and add a section for the diplomacy I think KKD should have; everyone else I'll double check the rest against a fresh /restart in case I've got something wrong.

I'm well aware of the [HA], I actually met <<Information Censored>> san in space about 2 months ago, when flying initial KKD scouting missions to <<Information Censored>>, I'll definitely be in touch with them when I start playing this. Don't see any reason for conflict with them. Big Grin
