CNS Exclusive - Hudson soon to be lost? - Colony News Service - 06-09-2015

Earlier today, the terrorist group known as The Lane Hackers leaked an Ageira Technologies confidential report.

Among the items in this report, an Ageira engineer reports his growing concerns regarding the instability of the disabled Hamburg Jump Gate in the Hudson System. The latest monthly inspection revealed several components of the gate are reaching critical deterioration levels. According to this document, the lack of maintenance will cause multiple malfunctions, resulting in the appearance of an uncontrollable anomaly. This anomaly is described as potentially twenty times larger than the Texas anomaly, covering the entire Hudson system in a deadly dark matter cloud.

Ageira Technologies did not yet comment on the leak, however we can certainly expect both the Rheinland Bundestag and Liberty Government to release a statement in the coming days.

Once again, the Federal Republic of Rheinland demonstrates that the patriotic symbolism of "The Fatherland" stands obstructively in the way of seeing even a few months into the future. As if there was not already enough historical precedent displayed by the Texas Incident three centuries earlier and the present Munich Catastrophe; the bumbling Rheinwehr heedlessly commits a second "Battle of Yanagi"-class error.

I, on behalf of the Bundschuh Party, would like to suggest that the vast majority of the costs for repair come out of the Federal Republic of Rheinland's Bundestag's Personal funds. From how much its composing members have personally profitted from their contracts with the Industrial Arm of Daumann and the Wartime Convoys of Republican, I believe they've much wealth to share.

In addition, I propose that any in the Rheinwehr Oberkommando and the Bundestag who voted for the intentional destruction of the Hamburg Jump Gate within Hudson be tried in a joint Rheinlandic/Libertonian court for the negligent "manslaughter" of an entire star, trade route, and system.

The Vereinigte Widerstandsarmee, foremost spearhead of the Bundschuh Party, pledges to defend the gate from further damage and offer escort and protection to any recognized engineers seeking to maintain, repair, or detonate-as-safely-as-possible the Damaged Gate.

Finally, we pledge a ceasefire on Bundesrepublik assets if they are seeking to do the aforementioned.

Although the recent report on the Hudson System by Ageira consists of preliminary observations without follow-up or review, the Republic is treating this information with the utmost importance due to the potential for catastrophe. We will spare no expense in backing the brightest minds amongst us, lest we forget the terrible price paid during the Texas Incident.

Due to this extraordinary event, the Republic of Liberty hereby extends an offer of a ceasefire while this threat is being analyzed and until a solution has been found. The implications of this anomaly are so broad and so severe that we must put aside our differences and work together to mitigate this threat. Let us join in collaboration by each pledging to supply both the materials and manpower necessary to avert a potential disaster that transcends political ideologies and boundaries. The damage to the gates and resulting threat may have been brought about by conflict between our Houses, but we implore the members of the Rheinland Bundestag to consider the potential danger to all of our people.

Today we've taken it upon ourselves to speak in the name of the Federal Republic, since the Bundestag seems too preoccupied with other matters to speak. The Rheinwehr indeed acknowledges this is a grave danger to both nations on this border and that without swift action, we might both face massive casualties and catastrophic damages.

In regards to the matter, and upon the preceding offer made by the Republic of Liberty, the Rheinwehr would accept the ceasefire in light of the impending tragedy. Furthermore, the Oberkommando is ready to commit some of our finest Engineers and Pioneers to work on the analysis and recovery with Liberty's counterparts.

We realize that this is not only a danger to the Federal Republic, but to the people of both our Nations, which trancends the differences we have, as you've stated. The Rheinwehr is ready to commit manpower, resources and, sadly this has to be said, We are ready to station guard wings around the site to fend of any who might be wanting to stop our work.

In the light of this matter, the Rheinwehr is acknowledging the threat, and is ready to act, together.

This is communiqué of the Rheinland Government:

The Rheinland government would like to inform all citizens that the issue of possible instability is handled with high priority and is not taken lightly. On the other hand, we would like to remind all parties including representative of the Rheinwehr, that the source of information are documents provided by known criminal organization which is amongst other things specialized in NeuralNet and electronic documents criminality including forgery. Until the provided data will be verified and there will be confirmation no faked data were provided, media should not jump to conclusions and start publicly broadcasting catastrophic scenarios and causing public unrest.

We want to assure Rheinland citizens that representative of the Rheinland government already contacted experts of Ageira to get details, and there is also gathered special team of the best domestic scientist which will examinate the situation as soon as possible.

Also, while we appreciate the gesture of offer of a ceasefire and this issue will be discussed, we would like to remind that the war, which among other things resulted in disabling the gates, was declared by Republic of Liberty and any potential dangerous situation is direct result of its aggresive expansionism.

Anyway, until the situation is clarified, Rheinwehr is authorized by the Rheinland Government to guard the sites of deactivated Hamburg jump gate in Hudson system and deactivated Hudson jump gate in Hamburg system. Also, the surrounding areas of five kilometer perimeters around gates are temporarily declared as restricted space where access is allowed only to ships which belong to law enforcement authorities or have their permission.

Once there will be any new information, it will be provided to public.

Ageira Innovations Official Statement regarding Hudson Crisis

Ageira Innovations is hereby confirming authenticity of the leaked report concerning so called Hudson Crisis. Official internal investigation concerning the source of the leak is not yet concluded, however, it is believed that a preliminary working draft of the report was illegally copied from a personal computer of one of the employees assigned to the scientific team sent to Hudson. However, Ageira Innovations wish to underline that the research process of the Hudson anomaly is not yet finished and therefore each and every statement present in various versions of the report, especially leaked preliminary draft, should be treated only as a working hypothesis. At this point, the factual level of danger or its magnitude are unknown, but there are good reasons to believe that if no countermeasures are taken a catastrophic outcome is very likely.

Ageira Innovations wish to assure everyone that it will do everything in its power to successfully assist in resolution of the Hudson Crisis.

An overweight man is sitting in a dark room filled with ornamental furniture; a bookshelf from the Kaiser era, a Libertonian fireplace from the settler era, some glowing, purple artifacts and guns. A lot of guns. Guns of all sizes, from all Houses, of all types and purposes. The man has one such gun in his hands, one that was in fact an infantry rifle of Kusarian make, one made very popular recently by Exile marines.

The man is polishing the rifle in his hands with a dirty piece of cloth as someone knocks on the door.

He puts down the weapon, as well as the cloth and grins impishly.

"Come in!"

The large, wooden door opens, a woman in some torn, dirty derivative of a Rheinwehr uniform steps in. She salutes towards the corpulent man while maintaining an emotionless look.

"Der Schakal! The most glorious, greatest leader who ever lived!"

The man grins. He turns around with a sofa of some sort, he grins with his hellish smile as he sweeps through his elegant, dark grey uniform. He looks especially scary as the red symbol of the Unioners is painted above the fireplace he sits in front of.

"Kapitän Siegel! My dearest warship captain. What makes me deserve the honor of your visit? "

Der Schakal smiles with a sadistic grin towards the woman. Obviously, the fat Unioner holds the captain in little esteem. She however, maintains a calm and collected look, obviously she has been trained in showing discipline even in the direst of all situations. She displays as much emotion as does a rock.

"My beloved leader! Sturmleiter Wittmann and his raiding party have some developments to present. They were scouting the Hudson system."

The woman approaches Der Schakal with sturdy, determined steps, clearly she has been taught the manners she presents in the military. She places a PDA on the desk in front of the corpulent Unioner then salutes.

On the PDA, there is but a single image presented, full screen.

Der Schakal's smile drops. He takes up an unusually serious look, observing the image for about ten seconds. His grin then slowly returns.

"So it's true.... the gate is indeed collapsing. Perfect."

For a second, the warship commander arches her eyebrow. The fat Unioner notices, no matter how much Kapitän Siegel tries to hide her surprise.

"You are an excellent soldier, Kapitän Siegel. However.... you have much to learn of the Unioner way of thinking."

He leans back in his sofa, then takes back the Kusarian rifle in his hands, continuing to clean it with his piece of cloth.

"According to the news, if the gate collapses, dark matter will embrace Hudson... and maybe Hamburg too. Chaos ensues. Liberty and Rheinland will make peace and will try to recover the damage together. We are accustomed to flying and fighting in such an environment, but neither Liberty nor Rheinland is. Trade and repairs will once again flow between the two Houses, but they will be presented with two choices:"

He grins, looking straight into the eye of the woman.

"They either go through the dark matter storm of Hudson, where the Rogues ambush them or take the 'safer' route through Bering, where our patrols will quickly raid them and return to Pacifica."

He puts the rifle in his laps then raises his hands in a friendly gesture.

"Either way, we win."

The Kapitän understands. Her eyes flicker for a barely noticeable second.

"I see you understand, Kapitän. Drag Sturmleiter Wittmann and Krieger here from whichever dirty pub they're brawling in right now. I want raiding parties to assemble and attack whatever stubborn idiot thinks repairing the gates would be a good idea. Burn them alive and take their cargo, then resell the jump gate parts to the Junkers."

Siegel salutes. Even she is surprised by the barbaric brutality of Der Schakal. Then again, she has not been working with the sadist Unioner leader for long. Once presenting her salute, she turns around. As she is leaving the room, the man grins in an even more selfish, cruel way.

"Thank you, my dear Kapitän.... I also trust I can enjoy your company this evening during dinner."

Captain Siegel marches towards the door then turns around and nods.

Der Schakal grins once again.

Destruction. Chaos. Death. The madman's plans are set into motion to bring forth his greatest allies.

”Ladies and Gentlemen. This news that has been leaked from Ageira is alarming. But our customers and business partners must not become alarmed.”

She cleared her throat.

”Our filter manufacturing plants upon Cold Bay will remain in operation until such time as it becomes too dangerous and life threatening to remain. Only at time will be proceed to exit the system of Hudson for the safety of our valued employees. If the time comes for us to leave we will be contacting all our long term customers with procession plans to reduce any disruption. Furthermore we pledge to assist any worthwhile effort to avoid any catastrophe that may occur."

She looked confidently and defiantly down the camera.

”Planetform Incorporated is a proud company and dedicated to our operations and our customers and we intend to outlast any issues that may come of these leaked issues.”

Well met.
Im speaking for Tinker & Transport, from the neibourhood in Texas :

We will be around with all available scrappers, mechanics and ambulance personell if the need arrises, and will also offer any logistical help from Houston and Tinkers Haven. We have already started sorting out any relevant scrap found near the gate in Hudson and if any Engineers want our help we are happy to offer it.

We might not be as resourceful as some of the major companies or as powerfull as some house military, but I doubt you will find better space rats to operate any heavy duty working in zero grav and the surroundings of an unstable anomaly than us. After all, that is pretty much a normal days work for our scrappers here in Texas.

One thing though :
Could we all agree that this is an urgent situation, and stop pointing fingers - or guns - at each others till this buisness is over ? Specifically : Could all those influential people try and pull back any possible hostility from groups like the Xenos ? We are used to working under fire, but results are best if we can work undisturbed.

All available crews and gear await somebody who can tell us what to scrap and what to weld.

*He steps up and stops in font of the mirror, running a comb through his hair and then straightens his tie. Checking his watch one more time, he turns, moves over to the podium he had set up in his office, hits a button and turns on the lights. He squinted slightly at the brightness until his eyes got used to the light, taking a quick look at the review monitor to his left to make sure the lights and camera were getting his good side. "Why bother to check which side, I don't have a bad side" he thought as he watched the monitor for a moment, once again straightening his tie and jacket. Turning to the camera he paused a moment to gather himself and then hit the record button on the remote built into the podium"

Greetings ladies and gentlemen.
First off I would like to express my thanks to our CEO Miss Carrington for clarifying that Planetform plans to be here until the end, which ever end that may be. *chuckles softly* Now that we all know Planetform is not going anywhere, I would like to extend, to those fighting to avert this catastrophe, the aid and support of Planetform and what resources we have.

I am authorizing the station manager of Cold Bay Depot to open his doors so that those companies working on this situation may use the station as a staging point. We are also inviting those refugees from the other stations and bases that are too close to the jump gate to use Cold bay as a staging point. Our doors are open to any and all that wish continue with they commercial affairs. All that we ask is that ALL organizations, parties and people consider Cold Bay as neutral grounds. That means check all grievances, hostilities and chips on shoulders at the door. Any offenses against another person, their property or their character shall be dealt with swiftly... Meaning individuals will be escorted to your vessel and asked to leave the station and not come back. Corporations and their representatives will be escorted to their vessels, all cargo stored in the Station bays will be confiscated and docking rights removed. *sighs softly* Much as I wish it wouldn't happen.. I know there will be inevitable arguments and such so we will have a team of mediators on hand to help with any disputes to hopefully avoid having to evict anyone from the station.

*chuckles softly and glances at the monitor to make sure its still getting the best shot,
shifting slightly to the left before continuing*

Ok... now that we have that out of the way... I have contacted the station managers on Planet Harris and Methyr-Tydfill for updates on available stock of Tungsten and Fluorine. As I had hoped, Planetform has a good supply of both on hand to help. We have cargo vessels standing by to transport Fluorine into Hudson for any cooling needs that will be required on or near the jump gate. Tungsten is ready and waiting to go out as needed to foundries and factories to help build replacement parts. Just tell us where and how much and we at Planetform will get it there. *he pauses to check his notes*.. Ah yes.. Just on the off chance, I took the liberty and contacted the station manager over at Caernarfon Station. He stated that his station also has a large stock of drill bits waiting and ready to go out.

*he stops and takes a drink of water, feeling a trickle of sweat run down his back he prays that it doesn't soak through his shirt until after this message*

In an effort to help out as much as we at Planetform can, I have been authorized to offer the technicians and repair staff from Cold Bay to help on the jump gate itself. The tech and repair staff from the rest of our bases are also standing by or are already en route to the Hudson system to help our allies and neighbors in this time of need. *bites lip to stop from laughing out loud as a thought crosses his mind.. "I wonder if I could get Clarissa to temporarily demote Lincoln and stick him on one of those repair crews.. would love to see that smug bugger crawling around actually having to do a days work and get himself dirty"*
