IFF: Royal Navy
ID: Gallic Royal Navy ID

1. Background
Shortly after the GRN took control over the Leeds System, the Gallic propaganda started to indoctrinate people of the planet. After a few months of harsh siege, the Lord Wilson officially announced that the planet with all its assets has to become the property of Gallic Kingdom - what is still ignored by the Allied Forces which supply local resistance on the surface. Various Bretonians have been noted for joining the occupational forces - some to reclaim their old lives as police officers or mere security guardians. While some simply throw away their hopes to go back into Bretonian borders, the others see an opportunity despite the price they would later pay if tides had to turn in the future.

2. In Search Of The Man Force
The GRN is known from the rather negative approach to the recruitments from the occupated and foreign territories, but after some time the psychological approach had to be taken. Top ranked officers inside the Liberation Fleet "Leeds" made a decision that hiring locals is necessity to calm down people on the surface. This tactic however, while not completely approved by the Gallic Crown, has proven useful. Both goals - the other being need to refill the ranks with the fresh blood without bringing new recruits from Ile-de-France and Languedoc - are nearly close to be achieved.

However, the background and the name to interest Leedians into such an organization became a tough nut to crack - at least until the Gallic historians carefully went through the annals of the Bretonian history. The Gallic Royal Navy decided that their new subjugated people from Leeds would form a strikeforces being christened after the original forces that were present in the 4th Century (according to the Sirian Calendar). Aside of pulling out the so-called "nostalgic vibe of the history", there was yet another goal to be achieved by such a movement: to renew the not-so-old feud with the Kusari Empire, now in form of the Exiled Fleet lurking somewhere in the Taus.

3. The Original Bretonian People's Navy

In the spring of 317 rioting on Planet Leeds led to dispatch of several ships of marines from New London in an attempt to restore order. The growing working-class rebels, opposed to the tyrannical rule of Price Harry XXI and his state-controlled development of Leeds, ambushed 2 gunboats on the landing platform and succeeded in boarding and capturing the vessels. In a brief skirmish in the skies over Leeds, the two vessels succeeded in destroying a third gunboat caught by surprise by the inexperienced rebel crew. The Bretonian Civil War had begun. When the Prince's nephew the Duke of Westminster and several other New London aristocrats sided with the rebels, 2 Destroyers and the best part of their fleets defected to the rebel cause after Admiral Smith switched sides and Admiral Mitchell was killed when his crew mutinied. By the end of the year the loyalist Bretonian Royal Fleet had secured New London, but with the Leeds system in the hands of the new rebel Bretonian People's Navy the royalists lacked access to the resource fields needed to repair or rebuild their forces. With more defections throughout the spring of 318, the BPN was strong enough to mount an offensive on the capital and captured Southampton Shipyard in a surprise strike in July, using a jump hole to bypass the Jump Gate defences. With the loss of their shipyard the royalist forces were in disarray and on 5 October the last BRF Admiral surrendered his destroyer to the rebels in New London orbit. With rebel forces in control of the skies, the royalist government planetside surrendered the following day under threat of orbital bombardment.

4. Ships and Equipment
Agressive Recon Section [ARS - Codename "MARSEILLE"]
With lack of actual civilian vessel that would fulfill role of the scout, GRN decided that "Caracal" GRN light fighter would be shared with the Bretonian friends. Unofficially however, only the most obsolete models of such are given to newly-formed division.
- XJ-1 "Caracal" Gallic Light Fighter
- UX-256 "Moonbeam" Gallic Civilian Heavy Fighter

Heavy Assault and Escort [HAE - Codename "HARNES"]
"HARNES" is in fact the main spine of the Gallic Bretonians, offering the most heavy assets available for the civilian market in Gallia. Most of the fighters of the "U" line are preferably built by the EFL and Solar Engineering on the direct request of the Gallic overseers of the project.
- UY -258 "Sunbeam" Gallic Civilian Very Heavy Fighter
- UZ-300 "Eclipse" Gallic Civilian Bomber

Close Range Support [CRS - Codename "CORSE"]
Close range support is nothing else, but a more desolated backbone of the whole Squadron. While it was an unlikely decision made by GRN, one relatively new gunboat were given to the Bretonians who decided to follow up with Gallia. Four other vessels are small, especially modified for the wartime purposes, variants of the commercial Gallic freighter.
- RNS-BL Pride - "Perilous" Gallic Royal Navy Gunboat
- 4x MCU-1 "Aurochs" Gallic Freighter

5. Ranks
The Bretonian's People Navy barely consist of any pre-War trained officers, except for the Lord Wilson's personal guard - the numbers of members are also estimated to be scarce. To keep everything in order, several ranks has been established.

- The Overseer (reserved for GRN officer)
- Space Lord (reserved for Sir Robert Wilson)
- Wing Commander
- Squadron Leader
- Flight Officer
- Cadet

6. Zone of Influence
Primary - Leeds, Edinburgh, Tau-31, Tau-29.
Secondary - Bretonia, Taus, Magellan.
Tertiary - Gallic Borderworlds, Gallia.

RE: (X) - Bretonian Turncoats - jammi - 06-25-2015

There's already a few rumours about a Bretonian collaborator population on Leeds. Just a few bits of salient information about that:

1) They're ruled by Lord Wilson, who was the deputy of Leeds' governor. After the governor was evacuated and Gallic troops started landing, he immediately surrendered the planet. In practical terms this doesn't mean much though, because the Bretonian crown doesn't recognise the action and their troops continue to fight on the surface. It's implied that Wilson thinks Bretonia is pretty much screwed and jumped ship so he could ingratiate himself with the winners.

2) Gallia hasn't been committing civilian massacres. The whole point of the invasion of Leeds is to secure the factories and assets on the surface. They need a willing and cooperative population for that. Instead they've instigated a total planetary blockade and are trying to starve out the resistance force. Subsequently, that goes for any uncooperative civilians who flee the areas under Gallic control. So long as you work your hours and obey the law, you get dinner. Of course that doesn't stop the majority from leaking Intel back to the resistance whenever possible.

3) If you really want to take this minor bit of fluff into the game, I'd recommend only using Gallic civ tech. I doubt the GRN would give them legit military tech they could run amok in, and it'd make you immediately visually different to every other GRN group out there. Originally I was anticipating developing this along the lines of Gallic corporations pressing local recruits into industrial and commercial roles and not so much this. But then I left so oh well. Tongue

And seeing as this is my traditional question for these things, who's the leader/behind the forum account?

RE: (X) - Bretonian Turncoats - Sturmwind - 06-25-2015

Awesome concept! I don't recommend using the term 'turncoats' though, collaborators on occupied territories usually use the term 'freedom fighters' and such since they wish to avoid feeling bad for the betrayal of their country and tend to think of their objective as fighting against their own government or the ideology thereof, rather than for the occupying nation. I recommend reading up on collaborators with axis powers during WW2 (especially armed movements) to get a clear picture of what I'm saying.

Use something like "Bretonian Free Corps" or "Bretonian Liberation Army" or something akin to that.

RE: (X) - Bretonian Turncoats - SpaceTime - 06-25-2015

I love the concept! It's exactly what the Bretonian lore needs at the moment.

Small suggestion: Focus on Gallic civilian shipline and use GRN tech on limited numbers.

Edit: Considering to apply but I have limited time.

RE: (X) - Bretonian Turncoats - Thunderer - 06-25-2015

A little correction of French: "Escadron des Bretonniens Gaulois"
And of English: "I swear to the God that I wish the best for Bretonia."

I agree about the name suggestions. If I wanted the best for Bretonia, I wouldn't become a turncoat, rather a freedom fighter.

Perhaps a more majestic version of the anthem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVboTNVVQjE

And perhaps a more suitable anthem (as the previous is better for use as the overall Gallic one): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ed3M5sHbf_U
This is a better quality and instrumental (can't find better quality vocal) version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc9jQQSm8eE Nice flag, eh?

As of the faction itself, it is indeed what Bretonian lore needs. I hope it will help make Gallia more popular and active.

RE: (X) - Bretonian Turncoats - Shiki - 06-25-2015

I like that concept.

1) I would add something about the goals of the movement itself. How they actully see the future of Bretonia after Gallic victory and parade in New London.

2) The relationship with GRN shall not be so cordial. Hwo betrayed onece could betray twice. In this case in the lore would be right to define them as the police forces under Ryal Navy command. The main task of them is the rear guard including the supply lines. They could be relocate to the frontline only in emergency situations. In the game they could act according to the GRN ID.

Agreed with the Sturmwind about the names and ability to parallels with real collabortianists.

RE: (X) - Bretonian Turncoats - Bretonian Turncoats - 06-25-2015

The list has been changed and some concepts were expanded.

@jammi - you suggestion about the namechange has been introduced. The removal of the GRN stuff (with one exception, since there's no Civilan Gallic LF - however I made an excuse on that) has been mixed up with other idea, I'll mention it below.

@Sturmwind - See up, as you also refered to the name change, which has been done. Additionally, I left the original name as an ironical name given by the Allied Forces. Bretonian Free Corps sounded pretty cool and are the ironical reversal of the WW2 inspiration - thus renamed into that.

@Space Time - your proposal has been fused with Jammi's and Enma Loyola's point out. After looking for some kind of inspiration, I looked over the WH40K and Imperial Guard that has commisairs who "maintain" the morale of the group. Only the last section is given the full access to GRN shipline and acts as a final nail in case of the major misbehaviour or (even false) accusation of the treason.

@Enma Loyola - please see upper posts. Smile

@Thunderer - I've changed the name completely so new translation would be required, if you would be so kind. I had French 8 years ago and I don't remember a thing.

The background will be upgraded as soon as I go through the Gallic info. It seems, oh the irony, that Gauls weren't that bad as described by the BAF and LN.

RE: (X) - Bretonian Free Corps - Thunderer - 06-25-2015

Corps des Bretonniens Libres (Free Bretonians' Corps)? I think it alludes more to liberation than Bretonian Free Corps.

RE: (X) - Bretonian Free Corps - Corile - 06-25-2015

I am not entirely sure if the (X) tag is appropriate. Many new players from other servers adopt (X) or [X] because in other, non-rp servers this tag generally resembles a pirate. Maybe something more generic would work.

Other than that, this looks pretty good.

RE: (X) - Bretonian Free Corps - Black Widow - 06-25-2015

I dont like the name bretonia free corps it sounds too much like a cheap spin off of the Valkyrie Freikorps: https://www.discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=129292 .

Bretonian Turncoats is much more original and straight to the point of who of you are. If you change the name back to Turncoats I will consider joining you.

Other than this is an original spin on RP keep it up.
