Privateers: Switching in Bounty Hunter ship line in exchange for Junkers - Sebastian Nobles-Stirling - 07-31-2015

I was looking through the Equipment Compatibility tables today and saw that Privateers have a 90% for Junkers. I would like to suggest that it be switched to Bounty Hunters.

My reasons for this are:

* Junkers have a history of keeping their ships and tech close to "family". It seems unlikely that they would give it to an official entity of the Bretonian government, regardless of how roguish that group might be.
* Bounty Hunters, while lawful, are still mercenaries. They would be much more likely to sell a ship to the Privateer than a Junker would.
* Bounty Hunter tech is meant to be "generic" in the sense that they are a loose coalition of businesses, not a political faction (I exclude the Core here). This provides a level of deniability or anonymity that is not in keeping with the Junkers.

Finally, the Bounty Hunter line is already divided between full fledged warships (Core) and snubs plus gunboats.

Why would we sell you a ship that we'd then have to fight?

Why would BHG fight a Privateer?

We escort corps and work for a host of people that a Privateer can and will target.

You're not actually supposed to be Hostile according to the QCP lore.

Well I shoot at any lawbreaker I get paid to shoot, including privateers - no matter what QCP feels about that. To a Bounty Hunter, a Privateer is just a pirate in a ship that looks like shrimp. $$$

Privateers already got bretonian ships to accomodate for the privateer-function.

Leave our mantas alone Smile

I think in lore it's only the Salvager that is kept close. Everything else doesn't have limits on it.

Technically, I am interested in the Orcas or Bottlenoses, not the Mantas, but that is not really the point. Cool

Historically, Privateers did not normally crew ships provided by the nation issuing the Letter of Marque. They were either privately funded warships, or converted merchantmen. From that perspective, Bounty Hunter ships, being built by mercenaries, make a lot more sense than Junkers and their clan mentality.

As far as the whole, Lawful/Quasi/Unlawful thing goes, I'd remind you that it is a game mechanic, not an RP one. In any case, yes, Privateers Can target lawful traders, but Whose law. Are you going to uphold Gallia's law, as well? Does Malta, or Crete, count? They both consider themselves nations. What happens when the target is a lawful of one House, but an enemy of another?

What Mimir said. Privateers often pirate transports in their ZoI and when a Bounty Hunter comes they usually fight each other. I don't see a reason for them having BHG ships. Also, BHG doesn't give its tech to almost anyone.

Privateers are pirates who's less lawful actions are more or less legitimized by the Letter of Marque as long as they serve the Kingdom.
