House flags? - Corile - 08-02-2015

Seeing the discoball thread got me kinda thinking, why do the houses only have logos and not flags? I mean, it's not a big deal, but the only thing that kind of has a flag is Rheinland. I guess Bretonia's logo could also be kind of considered a flag, but Liberty, Kusari and Gallia haven't got those.

I dunno, just something to point out I guess.

Discuss.

Probably because flags in space would be impractical. There are probably flags planetside, but it is not something we see.

I always thought it this way - it's logo on the ship. About the actual flag, it may differ between colonies. They could even use holograms instead of flags.

It's nothing new, actually, since it would be more like reverting back to the middle ages, in which not the flag itself mattered, but the symbol on it. The background color did not matter, perhaps to fit the "colour" used on the troops' armor and overall uniforms, in case of Japan (but mostly, it was a red/black kamon on white background, cause it was cheaper).

Going back to the flags, I do believe it is safe to assume, as I said already, there might be different flags in use every day. But, since there are only four major houses (with fifth revealed), I think it is the shape of the symbol that matters.

However, it might boil down to the logotype and hologram only. In space, you don't really need a flag, but working IFF unit, since you already cannot say the logo on the different plane in our modern life, if these are "just" two kilometers away - now imagine about hunderds, thousands, millions of kilometers, on the orbit and beyond.
