What can I uninstall? - Ximen_Benitez - 10-25-2008

Ok, I have this huge list of programs and I'm not sure which ones I can uninstall and not hurt something...

So to all you techies out there, can you help show me which ones I can get rid of? I mainly question all the ones starting with "HP" and other stuff that seems like bloatware.

The software programs I have I know I want to keep, it's just the weird name ones.

You can uninstall them all... Keep the ones you use, chuck the rest in the bin.
Keep the Microsoft stuff, MSXML, Nvidia drivers, you know system resourse stuff that are not useless apps... heh

What about all the stuff that starts with "HP" is that stuff that I need to use the internet and get help etc?

What can I uninstall? - kindred - 10-25-2008

If your Wireless or Ethernet internet connection is controlled by HP software then yes, it's needed.
If you cant tell or don't know it's safer to leave it on
Synaptics is your mouses driver, leave it, java you need ect

The only stuff you can ditch is the stuff you already said you want to keep. If you're trying to speed up your computer, do a disk defragmentation and if you have the money, install new RAM.

Heh, most of those programs I use quite often.

Yeah, I guess you are right. I want to install the RAM, am I'm sure I have enough money. But here's the slight problem.

I have two 512mb cards and two slots- totaling 1 gig of ram. If I want to up it to two, I have to buy TWO 1 gig sticks. Or I could buy a 2 gig stick and have 2.5 gigs. I think that would really help... just that's where it gets a little pricey. I'll have to look for prices on RAM, I haven't seem them lately.

RAM is dirt cheap if it's currently used DDR2, older ram is actually more expensive than the current faster RAM
Go figure :/

so uninstall the programs you dont use.
or better, dont have them running on background. because google earth for example dont improve your system if uou uninstall it. just dont have programs like msn running on background.

What can I uninstall? - Ximen_Benitez - 10-25-2008

Yeah, MSN, Skype, and Avira are the only things running in the background. And Avira bugs me. But I need antivirus...
