My first steps in ship building (gallery thread) - FallenKnight - 11-21-2015 I always wanted to tweak out a ship model but never had the skills. Thanks to my cockpits project I've managed to get a lot of basic skills how to make a model, modify, texture, export and etc. I feel its time to start from the bottom - with kit bashing models to further improve what I've learned. So in future all models I do will be posted here. I plan to do that for fun in my free time and maybe one day there will be a model people might like for a submission. So, today I've spend 3 hours to imagine a version for the bretonian carrier (considering a lot of ppl want replacement) by kit bashing the main 3 ships of vanila bretonia. My goals in future would be the ships to be close to vanila Freelancer and make sense in this universe. The ship below is not submission but my first complete ship ever done. Feedback is welcome to help me improve any further. Bretonian Carrier Idea I Link to p3d.in Here a comparison between dunkirk and that model. Hangars with docked Templars. Liberty Bomber Idea I Link to p3d.in (the torpedoes below are not supposed to be hardpoints but kind of a detail) RE: My first steps in ship building (gallery thread) - Tunicle - 11-21-2015 Nice evolution RE: My first steps in ship building (gallery thread) - Jayce - 11-21-2015 You spent 3 hours to take the middle of the Crecy with some elongated engines on the butt and a Dunkirk for a head? RE: My first steps in ship building (gallery thread) - Titan* - 11-21-2015 looks like bretonian dreadnought, I like it RE: My first steps in ship building (gallery thread) - Malmsteen - 11-21-2015 Nice changes, good progress RE: My first steps in ship building (gallery thread) - Mao - 11-21-2015 Size comparison? Without knowing that I'd say this looks more like a bretonian Battlecruiser or a variant to the Battleship. It also hasn't too much room for the snubs. LE: Didn't see the little link. The way you said it looks simple. But what I did was far from it. I had to examine all 3 main ships of bretonia to get the parts I need for the carrier I was imagining in the process. I was tracking some fish images to further get inspiration for the model. Once all parts were accounted for then I had to combine, modify and fix them in order the new model to actually looks...nice at least. It is kit bash but removing parts and placing them randomly is not my goal. So the whole model has 69 parts, which I had to fix separately due to glitches. Also bretonian ships are using 7 textures from which I took 5 and had to manually texture all 69 parts in order to make the final model looks close to other ships of the line, in terms of detail. I don't know why you haven't said any feedback related to the model, while instead you dropped an invalid harassment. (The head of the carrier is pre-dunkirk variant with missing armor and command bridge, consider it as MK1 dunkirk while current is MK3 of some sort - that's my imagination) (11-21-2015, 05:54 PM)Mao Wrote: It also hasn't too much room for the snubs. It looks like that but if you check the comparison "in front", you will notice how "fat" it is than the dunkirk. Here an image with (6) Templar's docked at the hangars and (6) more inside. Presumably in reserve are additional 12 for up to 24, placed on upper levels. RE: My first steps in ship building (gallery thread) - Haste - 11-21-2015 What exactly is wrong with the current Carrier model? Or are people simply not pleased with the ship's performance, which would be a matter of adjusting stats according to the model rather than vice versa.
