Discovery writing itself into a corner: Community supported lore re-roll - sindroms - 12-01-2015

Sup.

So one of the more problematic things about roleplay without much long term view on the state of things is that with so many people cooperating and contributing to the overall state of things when the discovery storyline is involved is that sometimes you tend to end up with something dumb.

This does not happen a lot, but today it has.

In our case, the sudden and completely unnecessary need for everything to ''calm down'' and return to status quo has resulted in literally nothing happening. A few years back we had plenty of things happening. 85 in particular was a huge buzz of energy with a KNF-GRN-BAF threeway being fought out in the Taus, while the war between Liberty and Rheinland was brutal and the tussle between OCs and Corsairs and such were still alive.

Perhaps people with some sense of power should sit down, talk it over and ''reroll'' the current advancement in lore to perhaps not 85, but somewhere before all of these dumb changes that killed the Order activity, removed the wars and ended up with people needing to go to Conn to get their pews to take place. Yes, yes, "BUT MUH ARPE EFFORT" yea, okay, maybe some of you did a lot to contribute to the lore and such, but what is the point of having your RP remain in the history of Disco if it dies off due to us all sitting around a large table drinking tea?

then maybe instead of removing something, you can make change instead

personally the gallic fleet should be killed off and more tensions should be rising

Because rerolling to an older but already existing state is faster than waiting for people who think their input is considered very important to figure out how to achieve something new.

Ye, Nyx, because it obviously didn't get smaller throughout a war fought for years now against half of Sirius.

Hudson JG blows up, Nomads, Liberty and Rheinland can have a big tentacle 3-way as the 2 houses blame each other. Sounds like a bad adult film, but with just as much action as one. Reignite the house war with a twist, but hurry up and do it already!

This would be more exciting than anything else happening right now. As Shia would say, "JUST DO IT!"

Discovery is not writing itself into a corner. It already wrote itself into a corner, and now we are trying to fix that. As usual I'll jump in and say that I think a big part of the problem here is people trying to say that RP and PvP are two different things. Roleplay is actions, these include shooting as well as talking.

A big part of the large scale sue for peace is because factions want to be the big guy on the block, and they've realized that diplomacy is a better way to do that than conflict. Too much diplomacy, however, drives a stake into the heart of activity.

Other pieces of the puzzle are poor system design and conflicts that simply grew stale, with enemies either needing to be switched entirely or the original conflict revitalized in some way. Which is difficult to do when everybody has an excuse of "weeeeeeeeell we wouldn't shoot people X because Y".

My two cents.

Joke Idea: Expand the Coalition to make them into a threat all the Houses can hate and attack. ^_^

Serious Stuff: Now that I got that out of the way. The story has been writing itself into a corner yes, but as Durandal said it is being fixed, and in order to FIX it proper they need the help of experienced Role-Players and Faction Leaders to help shape the story into what it is to be rather than the rail-road of the old times. However if folks are unwilling to do the work and get the RP rolling then the story has to be made up by the devs who take their observations on the lore and try to make it WORK. So if the story seems like it's writing itself into a corner and folks complain about it, I recommend looking inwards first and asking yourself "What can I do to help out and make sure it doesn't get firmly planted in the corner?" and "How can I get these factions involved?".

Remember, the Factions have some control now over where the story goes, but if you are not willing to put in effort and communicate with the Dev team about WHERE you want your faction to go you can bet the story will continue on, and highly not in the manner you want it to go.

So remember folks, RP alot, Document it and coordinate with Story Devs!
