New York Rules - Badger - 08-04-2006 Last night a few players brought it to my attention that the server rules allow a sort of loop-hole for pirates/terrorists to act as they wish in the New York system. Obviously everyone is aware that PvP is strictly illegal, but NPC killing is not. What this means is that pirates/terrorists are free to cause as much devastation as they could ever want right outside Planet Manhattan, whilst every law abiding and regular player is powerless under server rules to stop them, at least without provoking the offender into damaging their shields down past half way. I propose that the server rules be changed to say that the New York system is a total No Fire Zone. This is supposed to be RP, and terrorizing the heart of Liberty space while all defending players are powerless to do anything about it is not in keeping. New York Rules - Igiss - 08-04-2006 I'm for keeping Manhattan zone a no-fire one, others should stay free for NPC killing. I see nothing bad here, do you? New York Rules - MrSns - 08-04-2006 Not realy i like killing NPC, like bounty hunters and rougs ETC ETC. I think that is what u mean Igiss? MrSns New York Rules - Badger - 08-04-2006 Well Igiss the point is that no-one is allowed to protect any NPC's in the whole of New York, yet pirates and terrorists can go nuts. This doesn't really fit with roleplay... If they're still allowed to blow up all the military patrols around Fort Bush, shouldn't we also be allowed to defend them? The easiest option is just to outlaw all weapon-fire in New York (with obvious exceptions of missions and what is already stated in the rules), then it's clear to everyone and there are no grey areas. New York Rules - gezza999 - 08-04-2006 I don't see the problem. Outlawing all fire in NY is just plain silly, you might be shooting up other things, mining, depot raiding, and killing at a low level, I think its fine just the way it is, No PvP in New York. Also no shooting in NY might be a bit complex.. :P if I'm bored i usualy just randomly shoot off some guns not ACTUALLY aiming at anything ( -.- somtimes I accidentally hit some random arse base or ship near by [f**king stray swarms...]) New York Rules - Badger - 08-04-2006 Argh, don't take it so literally. Obviously we can't police every single shot fired off in New York, I'm talking about when a pirate/terrorist or group start attacking NPC's in clear view of popular stations or other players. Of course we can't stop everyone from firing off the random shots as they wait in line at a jumpgate or something, that isn't the issue. New York Rules - Igiss - 08-04-2006 I may amend NY rule with one statement - attacking lawful (police, navy, trader) NPC ships in New York is prohibited. So that bounty hunters and pirates won't count. Still I'm not sure... what if a player is hostile to everything in this system? Is it allwed to fire back if NPCs attack? New York Rules - Badger - 08-04-2006 I have had it before when a random corporation takes a dislike to you so suddenly every law enforcement agency in Liberty turns on you (very annoying), but everything is cureable with the right bribes. Shooting back will never help your position in that situation. I would say that they could either run or get out, they would obviously have worked to earn their status as a complete outlaw so perhaps they shouldn't be in NY in the first place :0P New York Rules - Igiss - 08-04-2006 I'd wait for other opinions on this before making final decision. Right now I'm not in favor of restricting fire... if it doesn't harm other players, let it be. Although you are right about the fact that no one is able to fight back in case someone wishes to wreak havoc. New York Rules - Korrd - 08-04-2006 I think the no PvP rule is fine as it is now. If we restrict PvNPC in NY, we will have to introduce other rules to allow weps if on mission, etc. And remember that you cant tell if a player is on mission or not. So if someone is catught slaughtering NPC in NY, [s]he only has to say [S]he is on mission... I think adding a no PvNPC in NY will just complicate things and wont fix any problems. It will just create a new hot topic for pointless discussions to take place on forums about "x player attacked y npc on NY, bla bla bla...." The no PvP Rule is ok. If you see somebody attacking NPC just let [S]he be. NY is a no RP system because of the no PvP rule. If it were a RP system like any other system, you might have to ignore the rule sometimes (e.g: an SF faces a phantom). So, instead of making NY a fully fledged demilitarized zone, we can make it a no RP zone. Someting in the lines of: "You are not obliged to RP in NY." That way, if somebody sees a pirate player slaughtering NPC's, [s]he does not need to defend the NPC's. |
