Hidden bases - Saigo.Watanabe - 11-03-2008 Ok i'll get straight down to the point... Today, while doing the usual stuff on my GC char, a KNF Battleship ( not saying who) went straight to Ainu, which is meant to be hidden and the location not known about. ( Apart from Allies and the GC of Course) Is this OORP? In my Opinion it is. Vote yes if you think its oorp Vote no if you dont think its oorp. Sorry if this isn't explained well enough, ive never been too good at explaining :$ EDIT: Damn i spelt oorp wrong on the "no " choice. oh and please don't flame and the such, i want a clean and decent debate/discussion on the subject. Hidden bases - Ash - 11-03-2008 I know it sucks that almost anyone knows pretty much where you hidden base is if it says it's hidden in the description. But that's discovery. Anyway it would be good if "Hidden" bases were as Nome base in Kepler where you cant know that its there till like 1.5k Hidden bases - Guest - 11-03-2008 In my opinion, the bases aren't OORP and should be hidden from non allies, yet while there are scanners, while there are spies, and not to mention people who have no interest in RP, we cannot ensure that the bases will stay hidden, or give the owners a place to hide from enemies. Hidden bases - Zelot - 11-03-2008 It's hard to say who know about something and who doesn't. The infocards in FL were written 17 years ago by the time line of Disco, and in that time, it is hard to believe that no Farmers went through the Kyushu-Hokkaido JH and saw Ainu which is right by the whole. Kyoto is supposed to be secret, but there have been KNF NPC's in chugoku for 17 years, you really think they didn't come across it. Same with the Dublin-O49 JH. What about all the outcasts and Bounty hunters that use the Omicron Theta-Omicron Gamma JH to attack the Corsairs, that one is supposed to be secret as well. Hidden bases - Patriot - 11-03-2008 Personally i think nothing can be hide for anyone,i mean all faction got explorer ship, all faction have explore all the system they operate in,i mean if now on earth we can see what we have in our galaxie whit a telescope, its a bit stupid to think we dont know what we have in our system whit a fleet of spaceship at our disposition.......... What ya think? Hidden bases - Derkylos - 11-03-2008 While some members of the Kusari navy and police forces *may* know the location of Ainu, I doubt they would just run a battleship up next to it. That cloud is a big place and it scrambles sensors. Can you imagine the number of bombers the GC could hide in it to ambush an unwitting battleship? It would be a bad move any government to send ships to a pirate base, as they would not be aware of what force the pirates could muster against them, and would not know the terrain so well-think Vietnam here. Edit: I see people going off on the "we explored the galaxy" tangent...no. No explorer in their right mind would take their ship into the middle of a pirate-infested cloud just to find the base. The pirates know these areas, they know which route the enemy is likely to take, and will set an ambush. As for the Farmers detecting Ainu as soon as they go through the hole...the cloud on the other side is GC/Dragon-owned, and distances are constrained by the requirements that it not take 2 days straight playing to get from the Kyushu hole to Ainu. Hidden bases - Dab - 11-03-2008 I think we just need to make 'hidden' bases have guard station firepower. Morioka in tau-65 can drop a Kusari Destroyer's shield eventually. Ainu needs to do the same. Because these BSs showing up at hidden bases and attacking without warning is about as OORP as you can get. Hidden bases - Jordi - 11-03-2008 OK if the base is supposed to be hidden, then yes it should be OORP to find a KNF BS near it. There are some nay things OORP in this server anyway, even by players that think they do RP, like having pirates right in front of Manhattan.... I think there is no way a base can be hidden when systems are so small or bases can be detected from so far away. I like the Idea of Ash. Make "hidden bases detectable from nearby". I'd like to suggest another idea. I apologise if it has been discussed before (I could not find it in the forums) What about making the Systems REALLY BIG. This way, exploring the system would take really a long time, and it would be easy to hide bases. At the same time, there should be lanes in all systems, and perhaps lanes-speed should be increased, but not cruise speed. Any thoughs ? Hidden bases - Guest - 11-03-2008 Not to argue..but. Remember in SP, the 4th mission where Juni and Trent escape to the badlands. The badlands hide the buffalo base, if i am correct, since the dark matter kills the scanners, yet the navy force did find them eventually. SO...well..sadly, in my eyes, finding a hidden base is not so OORP...just it would be rather foolish to bring a lone BS to it, if you have data on only the base location, yet not the forces guarding it. Hidden bases - gafwmn - 11-03-2008 It makes NO sense whatsoever to whine that they now know the location of your "secret base in the cloud",because most of you have used/gone through z21 ,one of the BIGGEST secrets in the known universe....ya ya everybody does it.. Its the mechanics of the game... the npc'a and local defences are nowhere near strong enough or far enough away from those bases to convince pilots of that. " I ain't goin in there! No way,no how.The Captain went in there.........we aint heard from his transponder in 6 weeks of lookin for his wreck." Thats how it should be thought of for any secret base or area.....scare the living daylights out of them.....ya know?...maybe some bodies ( or parts there of) floating in space as debris might help to get the message across. and thats my 2 credits worth. |
