(Maltese Navy 72nd Fleet)

History and Background

Beginnings

The 72nd, like most military outfits and factions across history, began as an attempt to prove something. In the 72nd's case, it was to quell the belligerent ideals and philosophies of the Maltesian Nation, and transform them into one of cooperation and self-preservation.

However, the 72nd Fleet was not always known by this name. In the days of old, when the Sigmas still felt the bruises of war between miners and soldiers, the group that would become the 72nd Fleet began their existence as a small fighter squadron known as the "Swords of Malta". The Swords, then only consisting of about 16 pilots, were known to be some of the most experienced and battle-hardened fighter pilots in service to the Maltesian homeworld. Over the decades, the Swords evolved to fit the ever-changing trends of their time period, recruiting new pilots into their ranks to filter the old or unable.

In time, the Swords became renowned for their usage of an old feudal-style of honor and knightly gestures. This honor-based system that payed homage to the old Spanish knights of Ancient Earth set the Swords apart from the rest of the Maltese fighter groups, and with the eventual onset of the Nomad War in 800 A.S., the Swords were tasked with the defense of Malta, both foreign and domestic.

The Transformation

After the Nomad War, the Swords continued their proud and honor-centric service to Malta until 817 A.S., when the government of Malta was transformed into one of the people, by the people, and for the people. The defacto leader of the Swords, Liza Delgado, worked closely with one of the old families that supported the new government, in an attempt to secure the Swords a dramatic increase in offensive and defensive power.

With help from the La Huerta family, whose close ties with the Swords had benefited both parties for years, the Swords began a dramatic transformation into a fighting force far surpassing the capabilities of their predecessors. Ships and weapons capable of massive damage and unyielding destruction were presented to them, in the hopes that the Swords would use these vessels for the good of all of Malta.

With new combat vessels, most outclassing anything the Swords had flown before, they could spell the demise of anything that came their way, military or otherwise. However, though the Swords had the capability, Delgado restricted the Swords from becoming disconnected like their Maltesian brothers and sisters. This kept the Swords fighting alongside each other for the next three years, combating the Corsair forces in Eta, and keeping the Council forces in Orkney in check.

The Great Division

After three years, the government of the people had collapsed, giving rise to the Crimson Cross and their belief of the Holy Faith. In the months that followed, the Swords were reformed and inducted fully into the Maltesian Navy, their forces scattered across the fleets, and their personnel reassigned to different squadrons and ships. Eventually, what had been the Swords of Malta were quickly absorbed into the war machine of the Cross, and any remaining pieces of the old protectors of Malta were scattered away into the void of space.

Before this assimilation, some Swords pilots had managed to either escape or leave the group before it was too late, most becoming freelancers and mercenaries for hire. This event, known to the pilots of the Swords as the 'Great Division', was the turning point in their plans to bring Malta's government of the people back to it's days of glory and prosperity.

After the Omicron Delta anomaly appeared near Malta, several capital ships of the Cross were sent into it to begin a short campaign against the Zoners of Freeport 11. This fleet, which consisted of three heavy dreadnoughts and four destroyers, stood as a testament to what the Cross had in store for the denizens of Freeport 11. However, one of the destroyers, the Santa Maria, experienced an event few thought possible.

Mutiny

In the days after the fleet mobilized to Omicron Delta, the crew aboard the destroyer Santa Maria, mainly consisting of former Swords pilots and officers, revolted against the loyalist Cross crew. While the odds were not in their favor, their swiftness and tenacity allowed the rebel crew members to acquire complete control of the vessel. The remaining loyalist crew were fitted into the escape pods, and in the confusion of battle preparation, the Santa Maria slipped off from the force and into the darkness of the Edge Nebula.

For several weeks, the crew of the rogue vessel wandered aimlessly, using their horribly outdated star charts to eventually make their way to the system of Tau-29, where they repaired what damage the vessel had taken in the mutiny, and restored her to working order. The crew, headed by their elected captain and former Swords second-in-command Randall Santiago, began to reform themselves into what would eventually become the 72nd Fleet. Using coercion, bribes and other means, the crew started to acquire ships, supplies and manpower from the disloyal elements of the Maltese Navy.

Most of the manpower that flowed to the Fleet consisted primarily of pilots and personnel who didn't see eye-to-eye with the Cross' 'Holy Faith', calling it 'Heathens playing with the universe's tools,' while others simply joined as they had fought alongside Santiago and many of the reformists in the past, their honor codex still ringing strong in their minds. Some who joined had even believed that there were the chances that they could push Malta on the path to democratic stability, even the incorporation of alliances and cooperation with the other Houses.

The Reformation

With time, and the help of old contacts, Randall Santiago and his trusted advisers were able to organize and manage what was a random mishmash of people and ships into an organized fighting force. The eventual acquirement of the Swords original flagship, the Aurora, provided the much needed symbol for Santiago and the Fleet to begin their military campaigns against their main opponents: The Royalist Forces of Gallia and the Nomadic and Infested forces. This great boon to their offensive firepower, due to the Aurora's superior weapons compared to, say, the Santa Maria, in addition to the maintenance and research bays aboard the vessel provided a sort of 'base-of-operations' for the Fleet's operations.

However, without people to fight the conflicts the Fleet would inevitably find itself in, or to conduct research on artifacts discovered on the Fleet's many expeditions, the whole thing would fall apart. With hope, more and more pilots, perhaps even from across Sirius, will aid in undertaking this great feat.

Fleet-wide Command Structure and Inter-Fleet Divisions

Due to the structure of the Fleet, and the current roster of her forces, the 72nd Fleet has divided the ranks of the fleet into three main echelons: High Command, Field Officers, and the Pilots. Each position in the fleet will be stated in standard english, so as to forgo any language barriers.

High-Command

Fleet Admiral

The military head of the Maltese Armed Forces, and the go to man or woman for anything and everything that happens within the Fleet. They report directly to the Presidente, and while they do not hold supreme power over the Fleet, their word is more-or-less law, every order given by them a lawful one.

Admiral
[Image: MBcyOe5.png]

The official right hand of the Fleet Admiral, as well as their speakers, Admirals of the Armed Forces stand as a high placed token of loyalty and determination. Their official duty is to maintain the status of the Armed Forces when the Fleet Admiral cannot, and are authorized to effectively do their duty for as long as is necessary.

Vice Admiral

The right hand to the Admiral, the Vice is chosen by his or her CO based on the trust that the two must hold. The Vice Admiral is responsible with holding the helm of the Admiral if he or she turns out to be unavailable, effectively allowing them to lead the whole fleet if the Fleet Admiral is not present. However, great trust is placed in them, as they are expect to not only follow the orders of their immediate CO, but to see to the needs of the Fleet and her people.

Rear Admiral
[Image: 5huKYZV.png]

The Fleet's Rear Admirals hold a unique locale between the Colonels and true High Command. They answer to the Vice Admiral, and provide a buffer between the chaos of the lower staffed officers and those of the higher command. This rank can only be held by two people at a time.

Colonel

The rank of Colonel is fairly special within the Armed Forces. Only four individuals may carry this rank at any given time, and the trust given to them stems beyond measure. They have authorization to command any ship the Fleet has at it's disposal, and are often seen commanding one of the Fleet's inter-sectionary divisions.

Commodore
[Image: c48fUDZ.png]

The rank of Commodore may not be as highly praised as it is in other militaries, but it is important nonetheless. Commodores may captain any ship at their disposal, with exception to the Flaghip, and are authorized to initiate attack against any forces of the corrupted Maltese leadership.

Capitán

Captains are effectively Commanders with increased trust in their commanding abilities. They are authorized to command up to a 'Sarissa'-class battleship, but 'Ransuer'-class dreadnoughts are strictly prohibited without approval from the Fleet Admiral or his immediate subordinates.

Comandante
[Image: a0wh8Xw.png]

Commanders have earned the trust of the High Command, and are symbols of what those below them should aspire to be. They are often seen commanding 'Storta'-class destroyers, but are also authorized to command the men and woman of any 'Bustard'-class civilian carrier in the fleet.

Lieutenant Commander

The rank of Lieutenant Commander is the very base of warship command, those holding this rank being authorized to hold reign over a single gunboat class vessel of their discretion. It's expected that they quickly earn the eye of those above them, or they may never rise past this point.

Lieutenant
[Image: z0barOB.png]

Lieutenants are the Fleet's backbone of squadron command. They can fly on wing with others in this echelon, but are as of yet unproven in their ability to lead anything larger. Through time, they are expected to earn the trust of those above them, and the loyalty of those below.

Ensign

Ensigns are newly enlisted pilots who have passed their initial entry training and have become full blown liberators of the homeworld. Snubcraft are authorized, and are the only type available to this rank.

Cadete
[Image: Cg5b21m.png]

Cadetes are the initial entry rank for all new pilots of the Armed Forces. They are kept under a watchful eye, and are expected to learn the ways and motives of the Fleet so as to better understand the cause they are fighting for. This period is expected for all pilots to last no more than a week at most.

Inter-Fleet Divisions

Within the 72nd Fleet, there are four main divisions that effectively go hand-in-hand with the Fleet and the Republic alongside.

División de Inteligencia Maltesa (Maltese Intelligence Division)

The Maltese Intelligence Division, as the name suggests, is the covert military intelligence subsection of the Armed Forces. They specialize in reconnaissance, infiltration and espionage outside of the Republic's main focus of operations, and relay all information to the Director, who uses it to better defend the Fleet and her people.

Director of MID: Colonel Maria Cortez

Comerciantes de la República (Republic Trade Corp)

The Republic's Trade Corp serves as the primary commercial and military supply chain. Going to places where most wouldn't fear to tread in the name of supplying the Fleet and the Republic, it is truly an occupation made for the gutsy and brave.

Director of RTC: Gabriella La Huerta

Investigación y Desarrollo (Research and Development)

The Fleet's own Research and Development Corps have worked tirelessly over the years to continue the Maltese technology race. The R&D Division deals with many an oddity, including many alien relics and other technologies that would put hairs on most peoples' necks. Not an occupation for the faint of heart.

Director of Research and Development: Commodore Eli Alan

Asuntos Internos (Internal Affairs)

The threat of inside infiltration looms across the horizon every day, the thought of the Republic's goals being swept away by the misguided thoughts of one on the inside bringing fear to many. After the infamous 'Reaper Scare' of 823 A.S., the MID authorized the formation of a separate division, named the Departamento de Asuntos Internos de Malta, or the Department of Internal Affairs. This division is tasked with the defense of the Republic and the Fleet from the inside, where damage could prove catastrophic.

Director of IA: Colonel Luisa Montenegro

Little information from my side as former leader of {MaEx}.
The faction is disbanded. No need to mention it in your diplomacy anymore.

Heyhey! Nice to see OCs getting inititive and players!

You can put IMG in unfriendly or hostile because when OC IDs come into T23, there will be fights between you and my people. That's what the Taus should be like. Smile
If you want to organise fights between your guys and us, contact me. My Skype is in my forum profile. Smile

~ Jack, IMG| leader.

Not a bad write-up. Presentation and story wise it's quite solid.

Although the friendliness to some groups you're supposed to be hostile with is a bit awkward. I.e, The Order.

RE: Maltese 72nd Fleet - Information Hub - Omi - 05-25-2016

The whole 'friendly Outcasts' schtick annoys me, to be perfectly honest. Disco as a whole overplays the 'bad guys who are actually good' trope, and I don't look forwards to seeing another 'DAE gallia/nomads is bad so we want to make friends with everyone???' faction take root.

It's a shame, IMO, because I've interacted with a couple/several of you a good few times and seen that you're competent roleplayers, but I just can't get over my dislike of the concept.

RE: Maltese 72nd Fleet - Information Hub - Maltese Armed Forces - 05-25-2016

Well, the whole faction is, at least in the way of it's diplomacy, mainly centered on the views of the leader. Over time, I definitely expect this to change, for the houses to color the Fleet's pilots and people with more deeper dislikes, but for now it's all just reflective of Santiago's views.

The relations with the IMG, CR and Rheinland I expect to deteriorate. Maltese have never been welcome there, and probably never will be. But for now, it's all just reflective of Santiago's views of the people of Sirius, and I expect this to change regardless of the RP that we do, or who we accept into the ranks.

RE: Maltese 72nd Fleet - Information Hub - Darku - 05-25-2016

Friendly with The Order, since when ? suppose to be hostile and how do you convince them/The Order that when you are fighting with their friend/Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army ?
Artificial Intelligence - Neutral ; I don't think they gonna be neutral with Maltese 12nd Fleet or any OC cause their teamwork with Corsairs and put Corsair in War.
Battlegroup Auxesia - Neutral ? completely awkward to me.

RE: Maltese 72nd Fleet - Information Hub - Maltese Armed Forces - 05-25-2016

I'll just refer you to the last post above.

For anything not answered, I'll say it here. The diplomacy in the lineup mainly refers to the views of the Fleet. Not any mutual agreement between two factions, but how the fleet sees the rest of Sirius. Like I said before, I totally expect this view to change. The SCRA rep may be iffy due to the Order, the AI may eventually cause a drop, and I dont believe auxesia and the Fleet really have any quarrels to begin with, except for the obvious dislike for outcasts by them.

It's a work in progress. I'll admit that. But the reps will change, dont doubt that.
