New to Discovery From Argentina - DarKWolF90 - 11-04-2008

ok here's the deal.

im dying to play this game online and with the discovery mod

but because i live in argentina, south america, even though i have a 2560kbps broadband connection i still get 250/300 ping in all of the servers :S

can anyone help me with a low ping (100. 150. 200) server or any fix that could help me play? cause with 300 ping i cant even do missions... (which i love to do) i just miss because of the lag

Ahhh - i feel your pain....

If you are connecting to this server - then thats about right given the distance you're at, im in australia and i get around the same - the ping is high 300's but the lag isnt so bad so i can still do missions, albiet with some jumpy ships sometimes.

how to get it faster?

i wish i knew, sorry mate!

You may want to PM one of the admins, Korrd in particular. I know that he is from Argentina... so maybe he can advise? If he can't advise on connection speed, I know that he could advise on flying techniques. He is, or used to be, at least, a very good pilot.

A: Move closer to Czech Republic. There is no other way. BTW many players do just fine with 300+ ping, you just gotta suck it in and don't try to even attempt to shoot Legionnares!

You think 250 is a problem?

Welcome to Australia.:P (Although are timezones mean that we usually do not fly when there are 150+ people online.)

I'm lucky if my ping ever goes below 300 here in NZ. There isn't much you can do, just try not to get involved in too many fights while you're lagging, just RP instead.

Welcome to Discovery, and from what I've seen and discussed with others in the past that has had the same problem, its really unfix able since the location of the user is quite far from the location of the hoster, so to speak to get better ping you got to move closer. But in any case, 300 isn't that bad, sure there's "some" lag, but at least its better than when a ping is 800 and its impossible to dock within one minute even though you've been sitting there the whole time.

Darkwolf, we all feel your pain...*shivers* I used to play via dial-up and a true nightmare. However, if truly interested in playing online there are other servers. I suggest looking at Discovery USA, which is about 2-3,000 miles closer to you, Just a thought:)

My ping sits at about 350 to 450.

If you want to lower your ping, I would suggest contacting your ISP via phone or e-mail and getting them to switch of inter-leaving.

With it switched on, the packets are more stable and more controlled. Of course the dis-advantage to this is that it deliberately postpones packets so that they don't all come in a rush and flood your router causing you to "drop"

In saying that...In the four months I have had it off, I have dropped maybe 3 times max.

I pinged a nice 140 to 190 at best to Australia from New Zealand. Crap! But once inter-leaving was switched off, I had a nice stable 50ms to 85ms. I used to get that to servers in my own country. Now I get 20ms to 30ms to servers in my own country.

So that would be my only solid suggesting. Ofcourse there are always speed/bandwidth modifiers that can increase your download speed and stuff. There are plently of free ones, but no guarantees one or the other will work. Do your homework, because some work better than others on different machines.

Hope this helps,:)

Eastern Canada here, with a wireless connection beamed through 2 floors and all the heating ducts and plumbing that entails. I get 200-250 ping myself.

It's fine unless it's an absolute twitch moment or the fights becomes a 8+person furball. Or the server is just sucking that day.
