What the hell happened here?
This is the new faction representing the Republic of Kusari's intelligence services. It is currently integrated into the Kusari Naval Forces structure, but hopefully it may grow out into an independent organization rivalling the former Kempeitai position.
What happened to the Kempeitai?
During the planning of the development of Kusari, it has been decided that the old KPT faction would shift allegiances to the Imperial side, so as to provide a more balanced outlook on the forces and alliances competing for the power in Kusari. The public announcement came on the January update, and the KPT should receive its renewed ID and relationship chart when the Main Kusari Update arrives.
What happened to the KPT)?
The most recent player faction that used this account before February 2016 was formed much later than the aforementioned decisions, and faced with the options of keep going with the KPT, or branching out to keep their Republican allegiances, it choose the latter.
Since the whole player faction decided to go this way, the KPT) was dissolved and reformed into the current KNI| , Kusari Naval Intelligence.

-Ranking system has been updated/introduced (check faction info)
-Recruitment form and concept has been reworked. It is no longer limited to former KNF or KPT pilots/people. Foreign pilots and agents are allowed, provided there is an intent of further development. (check recruitment thread, on the signature)

Despite the certain lack of activity of the KNI (or Kusari, if you're not that picky with the details), the faction project is still ongoing.
Forsaking the goal of becoming an independent organization under the control of the Republic, the KNI has fallen back to the role of providing KNF with intelligence pertaining threats from outside human organizations, who seek to disrupt the Republic of Kusari or aid those with such aims.
