Branded products in Disco (rant) - Corile - 02-12-2016 Here's the thing. When I saw the patch notes and Xoria's (I think?) statement on that there will be five different Consumer Goods commodities, all with the same name and just different prices one issue that I had thought of before came to my mind. And that is, Discovery seriously lacks any sort of brands. We have such wonderful backgrounds and corporate identities towards corporations (every NPC faction has its own logo and they all are so distinct!), however those corporations have produced very few things that are actually distinctive. To show what I mean: look at the today's world. If you look at a corporation like the Coca-Cola Company, they own A LOT of brands just in the US. However, the list of branded things in Discovery is... let's see. Stabiline, Rheinbier, Liberty Ale, HydroGro, FloraGro. Also Gaian Wildlife, PlasFoam Conduits, Light Arms, Side Arms and Cardamine if you want to take it that far - it's still piss poor, the only competing products are fertilizers and guns. There is just way too few things that are distinctive. Everything is named very generically - "Consumer Goods", "Cigars" and so on. You could, instead of making 5 different Consumer Goods commodities reach to the official factions from every region and ask for some sort of a distinctive, branded name. That would open up a lot of possibilities and would help create a bond between corporations and their products. Bowex wouldn't export generic Consumer Goods, they'd export Badger&Co. Premium Quality Toilet Rolls or whatever. Think about it. Discuss. RE: Branded products in Disco (rant) - The Savage - 02-12-2016 This. It's a thing I haven't thought about before. And I like it. RE: Branded products in Disco (rant) - Durandal - 02-12-2016 How the **** do you brand wildlife lmao. And light arms and sidearms branded? Wat? Seriously? I agree that we could stand to have more house specific commodities, but I don't necessarily agree with the suggestions in your post. In all seriousness, I'd like to see commodities having its own name, such as "Gallic Passengers" or "Bretonian Passengers" - or simple mention onto infocard where from these guys/items/whatever come from. They're there in the fluff, like the Detroit Pocket Blaster and the Daumann Shredder. RE: Branded products in Disco (rant) - evanz - 02-12-2016 i would think that any amount of new commodities could be added, surely its just an edit of the goods.ini, (and with exact "pointers" to the correct icon file) we could have a lot more lovely stuff RE: Branded products in Disco (rant) - Thunderer - 02-12-2016 Let's have a thousand of new commodities. And while we're at it, a thousand of guard systems too won't do any harm. RE: Branded products in Disco (rant) - Sylvie557 - 02-12-2016 It is never implied that things like consumer goods are just known as consumer goods to the common citizen, I am sure there are millions of brands in you cargohold if you ever carry them, use you imagination. Also replacing existing commodities with branded ones kinda screws with upstart factions wanting to RP that they make something since the commodity they make would be the same brand that everyone else makes. |
