Akuma no jizoku-sei

Ainu Depot - 16.02.823 A.S

A camera feed opens onto a dark, concrete room - lit only by the stray beam of light shining through the small glass port out from the Shiden Cloud. Resting in it's centre was a table, with a basic, clay teapot. In the corner was the silhouette of folded clothing.

An aging Kusarian woman walks slowly into view carrying a laden Satchel under her scared arm. Limping over to the table as she untethers the fastens. Lifting up the flap, a slight purple glows illuminates the leather and the worn eyes that peer down with wondrous curiosity. Hesitating momentarily, a hand takes hold of the orb and places it on the table; next to which the woman kneels down beside. The room swirls in a phantasmagoria of blues and purples which grow stronger as the lights are dimmed. Bewilderment spread across the Kusarian's expression as she began to speak aloud.

"Such majesty... why is beauty held in the most dangerous of things? Is it danger that cultivates the beauty... or is it some infernal ploy to bewitch those into service of beauty..." Suddenly the woman shrieks and stands up, retreating to a corner. Visions of Shoguns and Empress' on strings burn across her retina... strings held by the hands of Spirits. The same visions that have haunted her for months, that plague her sleeping moments and invade her waking thoughts. "Kuso Hana... what are you doing..." Shaking her head, gathering her wits as she comes back to reality, she kneels once again and hurriedly slides open a draw.

Peering inside, she regards the containers of purple liquid with a lustful eye. The same liquid that brought her the echoing vision. "Would it bring me closer to the answers I seek?" Several long moments pass before she looks up at the orb, startled. The...texture... of her thoughts felt weird. Foreign even, as if it was someone else's mind that spoke them. She slides the draw closed once more. Peering into the sphere, she contemplates her position. "What is this thing...?"

She had to wrench her attention away, her eyes growing sore from staring. Nursing them with a rub from the back of her hand, she swore as she registered the time. "I shall find out more about this item, and those that gave it to me. It holds great power... if only..." Rubbing her temple, she shakes her head again. "Careful, lest you loose your soul once more." Opening the satchel, she stashed the orb back into it and closed it. Looking around the room suspiciously, she limps away and the camera feed as a hand smothers it.

Battleship Sado - 18.02.823 A.S

Sitting back in the uncomfortable seats that adorned the bridge of the Battleship Sado, Security Officer Toba Nakawaru frowned as orders came in from his Commanding Officer. Holding up a hand onto the earpiece (his own earpiece, Kishiro Model, his 'Pride and Joy'), he nodded silently as he brought up a screen. Leaning forward intently, he stared at the footage.

Within the footage of Cell ni-ichi, the prisoner was looking worse for wear despite her medical care. A broken arm in a roughly tied sling, tears across her flight jacket and clothing... not to mention the obvious shock - she was pale as snow. Despite her predicament, she was busy in conversation with a man sitting across from her. Clad in the uniform of a Naval Captain, he was wearing his characteristic smile - the kind he always wore when dealing with his enemies. It gave Nakawaru the chills.

"Officer, report!" Toba bolted upright. "Commander Ishikawa Hidaeki is currently interrogating the prisoner, sir... and he is clearly enjoying it." Moments passed, and in the silence that followed Nakawaru concluded that no response meant no problem. He narrowed his eyes as Hidaeki held up some kind of mask. Was he baiting her? With what? Wait... he is leaving? Sighing, he kept the feed running. Afterall, it was his job to ensure the prisoner's security. Nakawaru grinned.

Hana closed her eyes, turning her head away from the leaving Commander. Moving her head made her feel dizzy, the combination of adrenaline and shock coming together to defy her senses. Pushing the chair further away from the centre of the cell, she knelt down on the floor and begun to control her breathing. Slowly, but inevitably, the haunting echoes of her visions came to her. She smiled softly.

Ainu Depot - 29.02.823 A.S

Kneeling in front of her table, she spoke her message with a tear in her eye. Her voice faltered as she put her hands in her lap, hiding their shaking from view. Withdrawal from the dream, the cardamine that sustained her, had taken it's toll. Hana could easily be said to have aged a decade in the space of that one long week. Her skin bore scars from the self-inflicted scratches... anything to ignore the pain of her torture. She shuddered, and taking a deep sigh she focused on finishing the rest of the message.

Closing the datapad, she sat back on crossed legs. "Whilst Hidaeki was honourable... they shall pay..." Rubbing her forehead, she held out a hand in front of her face and frowned deeply. It's blurred form floated in front of her, swaying as the withdrawals kicked in once again. "Where...Where did I put it..." As she fumbled around in her satchel for her breather, it occurred to her her life as a Chrysanthemum could never be the same... the damage to her body from the lack of cardamine had taken too much a toll.

"Perhaps...perhaps it could be..." Moments later, she found herself staring at the pulsing form of the orb on her desk. "Perhaps... it could be brought back. It would only..." With only a moments thought, Hana moved to the other side of the desk and took out the purple vials she coveted. "...hai...". She brought a vial up to her mouth, and swallowed the contents in one gulp. Bringing her head back up, she looked around carefully. "Nothing..." Suddenly, the flowing blues of the orb assaulted her eyes. Screaming, she fell backwards as the visions of her past returned to her.

The Temple of the Oracles - 01.03.823 A.S

Hana limped quietly down the stone corridor, lit by the rays of the Maltese sun flowing through the occasional window. Her satchel bag weighing heavy on her shoulders as she moved slowly to allow her blurred vision to keep pace. The purple dream had not healed her, as she had hoped, yet it had given her searing visions. Visions of a place of worship on Malta, the very same she had made pilgrimage to many moons ago at the start of her involvement with the Sisterhood of Dreams. Nostalgia kicking in, she took a moment to gaze into memory.

With a slight smile forming on her lips, she pushed upon a set of double doors into chamber of mediocre size. The décor left much to be desired, a stone walled room with a a large roof-window. Centered in the middle of the room was a statis chamber. "...as Tolomon-sama said it would be." Limping into the middle of this room, she set aside her coat and satchel bag - taking care to remove the orb from within. Hana held it carefully in her hands, for Thomas-sama had made it clear what this object was. It was an alien power core... her salvation... her transcendence.

Smiling softly, she removed her clothing and walked back to the middle of the room. The chamber opened for her. "...all suffering comes to an end..." Climbing into the chamber, she held the orb with both hands and leaning back she clutched it to her chest. Her eyes closed as the chamber shut, locking her in. "...'Oneness' at last..." The chamber flooded with purple fluid, the liquid cardamine rising slowly over her lips as they curved into a blissful smile.

The Temple of the Oracles - 13.03.823 A.S

The silence that had presided over the chamber for twelve days, like a ghostly sentinel, suddenly gave way to high pitched hiss. The seal of the chamber's doors unlocked to the sound of bulky metal clamps unfastening. Purple liquid spilled out in a torrent, flooding the rooms stone floor yet the level of the liquid dropped as it ran into drains placed in crevasses of the stonework. Hana lay naked in the chamber, the sunlight beaming down from above glistening off her skin.

Her eyes shot open as she gasped for oxygen, rolling out of the chamber onto the floor as her diaphragm spasmed coming to life once more. For what felt like an age, she clung onto the edge of life but slowly and surely her breathing slowed and her vision returned to her. Dragging herself to where her now drenched clothes lay, she pulled them on ignoring their state. She pulled herself into a corner, looking at her hands as they shook in her lap. A blue glow emanated from her satchel. Reaching in, she went to pick up the orb yet no contact a splitting headache struck her. Clutching her temples as her senses overloaded, she screamed. Fire... my brain... is on fire! Kuso... wait, these voices. So many voices. So much noise, get out get out ge- Her eyes went wide as realisation struck her, and a soft smile crept across her face. Kon'nichiwa. She sat there for close to an hour, looking out of the window in the ceiling towards the sun as her mind burnt it's way to her new destiny. Her smile grew blissful when she closes her eyes, concentrating on the nuances of her new mind. Her new soul. 'Oneness'...

She need not look to the door as she felt someone approaching. The double doors parted as two robed figures walked into the room, Tolomon-sama and another. "You survived then. Good." His accomplice passed him a bag, which he removed a stick of bread from. "Kusarian bread, from Honshu. Your old home I believe." He offered her the bread. Taking it in two hands, she took a large bite and paused to let it settle. Only several seconds passed before she gagged as her stomach returned the goods and she wretched into a drain at her feet. "It is done then." His lips slowed curved into a smile, his eyes narrowing slightly in concentration.
