Activating cruise drops shields? - Skoorb - 11-10-2008

Have encountered people cruising to catch up in game. At this point i realy do not care that much, i do not do it but i do not get excited when i see others doing it. It got me thinking though.

What if engaging cruise caused your shields to drop to zero while charging. The idea would be all power is needed by your ship to charge the engines so you draw from your shields. This happens in fighter class ships when you drop cargo. Something similar. The idea has it's problems, just thought i would throw it out there when i thought of it. If cruising to catch up meant your shields were lost, many would likely think twice.

Eh, probobly not possible and too much work.

In short, you do understand that not only those who are catching up suffer this penalty, but someone who is trying to get away. See, usually a SN can down an armorless train with one shot. The shield is the ONLY thing that gives the trader SOME time to escape while the SN reloads.

Also, without shield, especially larger ships when going through hazard fields, the result will be either death when you start ricoshating, or very large repair bills.

Also, then you could be easally shot while you try to flee by normal weapons as well..

When you flee, you are not the one shooting but the attacker, so if you are trying to save the lad by taking off his shields...ah well

I like the idea... but rather drawing from the shields, how about cruise draws from the shield batteries.... maybe say... 5 each time you cruise... that way shield will be uneffected... but cruising alot will hinder your ability to survive in harsh situations.

Even though this idea has some RP sense in it, it will bring alot of set backs, not to mention its most likely impossible to create this idea.

the idea is good - but there are also other ways - some tested so far. - either way, ... i don t think we can do it for 4.85 - cause at some point, one must ignore even good suggestions in order to get it finished at some time... .

about the possibility - since vanilla ships drop their shields when they jettison stuff - i think there s switch that could drop the shields when they cruise, too - so i would believe that its possible to link the shield drop to an event.

Maybe cruising could zero-out weapons power instead. An actual drain that you have to recharge after once out of cruise.

Activating cruise drops shields? - Niezck - 11-10-2008

That's possible. Cruise can quite easily drain power, which if we change to restore slowly ...

It is possible for cruise to decrease your power supply,... but is that really desirable? Shouldn't people just obey the rules?
