Guten Tag ladies and gentlemen,

I am Maren von Westefeld and I am sending this in response to a chat that I had with Eli Starkweather from the >Z|C<Antarctica; to not dally to long on backstory, we talked about the current state of Planet Nuremberg and he suggested I contact the Seraphim, who, upon further reading, are a humanitarian aid project hosted by your organization and therefore exactly what Nuremberg would need. Let me elaborate:

There are a number of things that contribute to the desasterous state of the planet at the moment, and in my opinion, they can be boiled down into three categories:
  1. A problematic native fauna and flora that made it difficult for settlers to start effective agriculture.
  2. An unwillingness of the Bundestag to lend any mometary aid to local efforts to start holding livestock
  3. The dark matter that has flooded the system and that is quickly destroying the planet's atmosphere, making it possible for all sorts of cosmic influences that would normally be deflected to pass unimpededly, which has caused a dramatic rise in diseases like cancer.


If you read deeper into the matter, you will find that Nuremberg has been colonized rather abruptly. People were eager to build a new home for themselves on this planet, which, at first, had seemed perfect for colonization. I'll not repeat history books for you here, as I'm sure I'd get it wrong, but people soon discovered that A) one couldn't fish and B) could not plant crops that were not indiginous to Nuremberg's ecosystem. The result was hundreds of thousands who deserted the planet in desperation, leaving the rural areas, the savannahs and plains surrounding bigger metropolises largely abandoned.






This reduction in population was likely, in my opinion, to their overal benefit, seeing as Nuremberg has been dependent on food supplies from Stuttgart, which, as you may know, is currently in the possession of the Libertonian cooperation Synth Foods, who seized the opportunity and de facto bought Rheinland's biggest food producing asset in the wake of the Eighty Years War. Pretty much the same has happened to Nuremberg in this period. It was bought by Daumann and Republican Shipping from the Rheinland government, because it needed the money. Daumann and Republican currently manufacture military assets on the planet, which has caused massive environmental damage and an ever-expanding military-industrial complex to grow and swallow most of the major cities. Most of Nuremberg's citizens — those that are still there — are now either Miners for Daumann or in some way involved in the facilitation of military assets.

Adding insult to injury, another disaster hit the entire Munich system hard in the form of dark matter that has encased large parts of the system. Nuremberg's population, already strained, devolved into a downward spiral of violence as it became public that the dark matter was dissolving the planet's atmosphere, causing all sorts of harm, like the aforementioned rise in cancer cases. Desperation has the populus in its claws and where there is desperation, there are those who will exploit that. Crime has gone through the roof; so much so that the Federal Police is unable to actively incarcerate many of the perpetrators of lesser crimes like theft, arson, et cetera. Drug dependency is also rising dramatically, though there are no official numbers due to the difficulty of really pinning down those that are addicted to any one substance.


People are desperate to leave this planet and it shows. The Seraphim could do immense good simply by providing food and medicine, but that would be treating the symptons and not the cause. Nuremberg is dying and the priority should be making sure that as many people as possible do not die alongside it. This requires decisive action from the Bundestag and this action has to come sooner rather than later.

I would suggest the Seraphim send a vessel to the planet to determine its current state for themselves. If possible, I would implore that you appeal to the Bundestag about funding a comprehensive resettlement of Nuremberg's population.

A personal request, though: I would very much appreciate if I could remain anonymous if you were to undergo talks to Rheinland authorities. I am looking forward to hearing your opinion soon.

Dear Maren von Westefeld,

thank you for contacting the Seraphim.
I must apologize for the delay of this answer, we have been reorganizing our structure inside the Zoner Consensus and it generated some extra paperwork.

I am sorry to learn the desperate situation on planet Nuremberg. The problem seems really complex.
Personally, I don't know very much about the dark matter and its effect on human health so I don't have clear advice to give. We can of course bring some food and pharmaceutics but to be efficient it would be better you tell me what type of medicine you need. Note that we are in contact with the Ingenuus Research Group, another group of zoners, that probably knows pretty well how to deal with dark matter since they experiment it every day in Kepler system.

For know, I will schedule a visit of Planet Nuremberg. A ship will come to collect various sample from the environment and possibly from the people if you can convince some inhabitants to let us collect some samples of blood, nails, hairs, urine, etc... Then we will bring back the samples to our research center in omicron-74 and analyze it.
Of course, this ship will come with a few containers of food and medicine and could possibly relocate a family or two to Freeport 9.

Concretely, what we could do is to bring continuously food and medicine and help to relocate the inhabitant of Planet Nuremberg. However, it is clear that due to our current limited logistical resources, our help will remain small in comparison to what is truly needed.

Based on the results of the sample analyzes, we will prepare a sanitary compliance report that will be addressed to the Bundestag. It will state the problem and identify solutions. However, you must understand that the Seraphim are not in the position to ask anything from the Rheinland government. Moreover, we must remain very diplomatic to prevent the Rheinland government to declare the Seraphim persona non grata. Indeed, the Rheinland government could take offense that we publish alarming sanitary report and start to relocate Rheinlanders. Especially if we transport them outside of Rheinland. We will transmit you a copy of this report so you can give us your feedback before we submit it to the Bundestag. Of course, as you requested, your name won't be mentioned in exchanges with Rheinland authorities.

For now, we will prepare our expedition on Planet Nuremberg. It would be good if we could meet during this journey on Planet Nuremberg and if you could find some volunteers to provide some human samples.
