Overview

Michael Cost’s life is an accurate illustration of Sirius’ cruelty and evilness. A pure product of what Humanity does best: create barbarians, savages and immoral beings. It was like that throughout its existence and will remain the same.

The Destiny

Sometimes future seems to be determined, but life always reminds you nothing is certain. 5 years ago Michael became an example.

He was born in Planet California Minor, the only child of a Planetform pilot and his housewife. He doesn’t have a lot of memories of his mother, as she abandoned them for a rich IC Captain when he was 2 years-old.

Raised by his father that had no choice to bring him in all of his missions, Michael quickly developed knowledge of flying into Sirius. He acquired his flying license as soon as he could, and began to prepare an application to Planetform. A simple formality as he knew all the protocols of their pilots. On the last mission with his father before applying, the fate knocked at the door to mess up his entire destiny.

The trade convoy was heading to Planet Harris in Tau 31, bringing Terraforming Gases, during this tragic year of 818 AS. They were closed to reach the planet when the Gallic Royal Navy entered in this system. Gallics shot on everything, severely damaging the Planetform Shetland Train. GRN fighters didn’t finish their job, more interested by some Council forces around. They were extremely lucky to be found with few survivors and brought back to Planet New London by a BAF squadron that was retreating. His unconscious father had lost his 2 legs and had his body pierced by some debris. Diagnostic: An urgent need of a new liver. But for sure, no availability, as all the stocks of Organs were dedicated to heal the soldiers. He understood this day that some lives are less important than others.

Michael was totally desperate; he could have done anything to save the only person he really knew. One strange looking doctor in the hospital felt it. He introduced himself as Dr. Doe and proposed him a mission: bringing Human Organs from a Gallic System. In exchange he will give him a free liver and do the transplant. Firstly, surprised, chocked and afraid, the image of is dying father quickly came to his eyes. Michael remembered he has grown in space, hiding and escaping from pirates and learned to fly with freighters. He accepted this risky trade.
Shortly after being briefed, he began the travel. His skills of pilot led him to safely enter and exit the Gallic Space, avoiding Gallic forces at many times but also Zoners and Pirates on the way back, as well as all the Bretonian forces until New London. He was exalted by this mission. He smiled, he laughed each time he smuggled these organs from a system to another, at a point he closely forgot why he was doing that!

But as soon is arrived to New London, Dr. Doe told him his father died. The pain, the fear and the loneliness suddenly ran into his veins. What was he going to do now? Doe came to him and put a large amount of cash in his hands, proposed him to make some other missions and told him to take time to think of it.

Lost in his sorrow, Michael totally changed his mind set in a couple of weeks, being a witness of the human depravation on the planet: the wounded from the war, the crimes, the drugs… He received nothing from his father's Planetform insurance life; times of war he had been told. Michael saw the true face of Sirius: A cruel place with no consideration for a human life.

One morning, waking up in his bed full of empty bottles of gin and some hookers, he remembered the exaltation of his smuggling mission. Yes, the strongest feeling he never had. The only memory that reminded him what was “living”. He contacted back this doctor and accepted his offer. After dozen missions, Doe mysteriously vanished, leaving Michael again alone, but this time, with cash and a ship. He continued to smuggle Human Organs for many years, the best years of his young life. After strong fluctuations of the black market prices, he had to find new ways to make money, in order to maintain his ship and crews. Only by smuggling, his true way of living. Blood Diamonds, Artifacts, Black Market Munitions and so on, all around Sirius. But it wasn’t the same feeling than Human Organs. Moreover, even though he was admired by his crew for his strong sense of decision and his skills, he only saw them as maintenance and flying tools; He still felt desperately alone.

He heard of an old smuggling route from Pittsburg to the Outcast space. Some “workers” he has been told. When he arrived there and discovered the real meaning of this nickname, he felt incredibly excited. The first flight brought back the old memories and feelings he had with the Human Organs. Surely something related to treat humans as a commodity and livestock, like Sirius always did, like he always thought since the tragic incident.

After some months of successful and exalting deals, he learned about the story of two brothers that wanted to bring back from the shadow a forgotten union… the Slaver’s Union. Michael’s decision was instant. He HAD to find and join them. Some people like him… finally.

A growing insanity

Michael finally met a Slaver. He was in a bar in Pittsburg, trying to get information to find one of them. A strange looking man, sat at the bar, gave him a note and left. The note was an invitation to join the Union with details for sending a transmission. Michael couldn't believe what happened, with no hesitation he reached his terminal and wrote the transmission to this encrypted database.

He was shortly later accepted into the Union, the beginning of new life for him. He was exalted from the first travels he had with James and Georges Woods as well as the other operatives. He felt taking part of this organization, as it brought him all what he was missing: people like him.

However, dealing with larger amounts of living commodity and spending time with people with dark personalities had a strong influence on Michael’s behavior, especially regarding the slaves he carried. From being antagonistic, he became sadistic toward them. Enjoying, beating them with no reason, raping females with his crew, realize experimentations in the laboratory he set up and even kill some of them in horrible ways.
His favorite activities in-flight? Live executions by slitting a slave’s throat, throw the bloody carcass in the middle of the other slaves and dance upon it with his crew on his favorite music; Removing, modifying, implementing organs on slaves, just to witness their body’s reactions and their pain.

Through these different experimentations, Michael acquired quite knowledge of medical related activities and human body, even though he hadn’t any background.

His ship, The Governor Parr, quickly became insalubrious as Michael never cleaned the blood spurting from the slave’s bodies or removed the hanged corpse inside the ship. He enjoys looking at these traces, reminding him the pain he inflicted. But most important was to see the face of the slaves boarding, the fear they feel when they understand what will happen. Providing such suffering was an incredible excitement for him.

His also changed his crew, hired more savage and insane souls rather than professional pirates. He only kept with him Travis Keller his personal slave manager, supervisor of the crew member of the Governor Parr.

Travis Keller

Michael met Travis in Pittsburg, the first time he came there to find "workers". Travis was already managing slaves for a local businessman for quite a long time. He came to Pittsburg as a miner to make cash. But his aggressive temperament and hunger for money lead him to kill another miner for a large boron lode freshly discovered. He then had to hide and met this businessman who introduced him in the slave trade.
Michael and him shared a similar way to treat slaves. That's why he proposed him a position in The Governor Parr with large commissions, what Travis accepted immediately. Since, he became the right arm of Michael.

The Wanderers

Michael's primary crew. They're usually robbers, rapers, murderers looking for a better pay or job after they finished their sentence in prison. Some of them also come from different asylums, mostly the ones he prefers. They're not fully trustworthy, but they know the smell of money and enjoy Michael's "activities" with slaves. Hence turnover is low. Michael usually compare them as his watch dogs.
