Let's start today's broadcast: Desperation as Dark Matter Looms An estimated 300 million refugees are attempting to flee Planet Nuremberg as the dark matter storm surrounding the Munich system continues to spread, the storm which has already claimed the Augsburg Colony now threatens the industrial world. Scientists and researchers project the storm may encompass the entire planet within as little as one solar year. The storm’s effects are already being felt by those still trapped planetside as intense radiation steadily bombards the atmosphere causing serious illness and reduced food production, spreading panic among the populace. The Government enacted evacuation is reportedly facing collapse in wake of the exodus as the demand for shelter far outstrips supply, forcing millions of refugees into homelessness and uncertainty. Broken Bonds Forge New Alliances A startling shift in Rheinland’s extraction and production industries has shaken the stock market as recycling giant ALG dissolves its long standing partnership with Kruger Minerals over closer ties with mining rival IMG. In response Kruger has sought to strengthen its bond with DHC creating a superbloc of excavation and industrial construction. Economists have voiced strong concerns over this new superbloc citing fears over the combined strength of Sirius’ largest resource and industrial providers could lead to price dictation on an almost monopolist scale. Military Return Silences Hessians Hessian presence within the Dresden system has seen a rapid decrease according to latest police figures, attacks upon mining operations and transports have dropped by almost 36% coinciding with the military’s return. The Red Hessians whom have long fought for control over the Dresden system appear to have shifted focus towards the Omega systems, as reported clashes against the Bretonian Armed Forces in Omega 3 have trebled over the previous month. An unnamed military pilot had this to say: “Of course they’re attacking Bretonia, the Hessians have never been more than cowards and thieves, they have no interest in anything beyond their pockets. Now that we’re back from the Libertonian front and on active patrol they’re scared to face the might of Rheinland, so they need to find easier targets.” Systems Discovery Sparks Interest The recent discovery of two new systems, dubbed Sigma 15 and 21 respectively, bordering Rheinland space has energised the Bundestag. The closest system Sigma 15, which connects directly to Rheinland space, appears to be of particular interest to the government due to the volcanically active moon Hammersee in orbit of planet Juist. The moon’s oxygen atmosphere and low salt content lakes has allowed a number of colonists to settle upon its dry and dusty surface as geologists begin surveying the cavernous underground network of lava tunnels for suspected resource deposits. In defense of this newly uncovered asset and to assert control over the system a military outpost has been hurriedly constructed high above the moon, making the intentions of the Bundestag clear. Bretonian Respite as Gallia Advances Recent success in California by the Gallic spearhead has granted war-weary defenders of Bretonia a chance to regroup and recover despite Hessian incursions. The renewed campaign against Liberty has sparked heavy fighting in Cortez, Magellan and California as Gallic forces to gain additional ground within the system. The Bretonian people still face increasing difficulty as a recent upsurge in piracy and privateering continue to wreak havoc upon vital supplies, Bretonian government officials suspect Gallic funded mercenaries have been employed in an attempt to harry reconstruction efforts and delay any planned counteroffensive by the Armed Forces. Government Considers Trade Liberalization Government officials confirm discussions regarding a relaxation on trade law aimed at stimulating greater economic recovery. Rumored topics include the lowering of import taxes and perhaps the most controversial, the opening of trade on certain prohibited or restricted goods such as Blue Jillies and possibly include recreational drugs.
