TLAGSnet is meh - Pavel - 06-25-2016 TLAGSnet is OP. Police players can camp 20k under the plane and yet they still see on TLAGSnet all the lane and gate traffic in their respective house space.
All of their house space. Even indies with restart ship (!) have access to it. Situation when you can monitor everything without any effort is wrong. Just imagine: police forces don't need to organize patrols or secure several systems. They just need one player online with TLAGSnet turned on. In no small part TLAGSnet in its current all-seeing form removes the need for actual patrols from police forces. I am not trying to say TLAGSnet concept is flawed, oh no. I am saying in its current form it's meh. Keep the lane and gate monitoring, but downgrade the tool to work only in the system the actual player is in. That way to effectively monitor house space police forces need to have several cooperating players online, each in a different system. The more people online, the more space they can scan. Indies and officials alike, no discrimination in that. This way in-game activity is promoted. RE: TLAGSnet is meh - Thyrzul - 06-25-2016 In-game activity is promoted by encounters. To them TLAGSNET is an addition, not a substitution. You can wipe your prettier side with a single police player with TLAGSNET if the scan shows multiple targets. If it does, as far as I know it doesn't state who's the smuggler, not even shipclass, just who's where. Names and locations.
You can't monitor everything with TLAGSNET already. It's far from being all-seeing. Why nerf more? TLAGSnet lets you scan cargo contents. ** Yes you can monitor everything what uses gate and lane system (which is 98% of all the traffic, lawful and unlawful alike). Everywhere in your house space. From a single spot. By a single player. RE: TLAGSnet is meh - Thyrzul - 06-25-2016 Take away the cargo information then. RE: TLAGSnet is meh - Pavel - 06-25-2016 No, because it goes against the purpose of TLAGSnet. Keep the cargo scan thing, but limit lane and gate traffic scan only to the system police player is in. more police players online, working together -> more systems are monitored police players see they need to cooperate to use their tool at max efficiency -> they join already existing factions, or make their own ones -> activity increases RE: TLAGSnet is meh - Hannibal - 06-25-2016 1)it would either make players idle at jumpgates or just make the system useless for not having the numbers to cover what you need 2)its already quite easy to smuggle 3/4 of the day so i don't think that's a good idea however..by being able to scan only the cargo it would prevent them from tracking unlawful or peoples who uses equipment that its forbidden in that house RE: TLAGSnet is meh - Croft - 06-25-2016 What about throwing some mystery into the mix, say a 30% for the scan to show "Unknown cargo" or somesuch, maybe make anything under 600 cargo harder to scan too? RE: TLAGSnet is meh - Thyrzul - 06-25-2016 (06-25-2016, 01:51 PM)Pavel Wrote: No, because it goes against the purpose of TLAGSnet. Your proposal results in multiple idling players away from anything still capable of doing the same as before, just in their own system only.
Taking away the cargo information would however take away the chance of spotting smugglers immediately without some extra effort. An unknown name wouldn't even hint what ship it might be, not to say whether the cargo is contraband or not, if there is any. Players could then take the effort to share information between eachother and make a catalogue of names, so next time you see a name, you'll know what's behind it. Smugglers can then change their names regularly if they want, just like now, except without cargo info from TLAGSNET it'll take time and actuall effort for the police to find out if a new name hides a smuggler or not. RE: TLAGSnet is meh - Wildkins - 06-25-2016 Honestly, it's a change that would look good on paper but do nothing in reality. It might even be harmful, actually, given the limited amount of players the post-4.87 Discovery mod is dealing with. A nerf like that to TLAGSNET would probably just drive away the few police players left, because it'd be that much harder to find any interaction at all. RE: TLAGSnet is meh - Skorak - 06-25-2016 It is already not that easy to catch smugglers in house space. Let police have that toy and have it easier for them. Police=Tlags to catch smugglers Navy=Battleships, usually a war to fight Intelligence=Sirius wide ZOI shrinking their bonus will make them less used again. EDIT: Official police can do nodock but without it, catching smugglers is hard if you don't fly something that instakills them. |
