I need lesson on how to fly X_X - Xing - 12-11-2008

Yeah so...
I -am- flying a VHf nowaday... thats right... not a battleship.
And, I really need some lessons. Because right now, I am applying FW mod pvp style of flying to Discovery, which is somewhat... well, not exactly the same to say the least! Against VHF, I'm fine, no complaints.
But I have one -hell- of a misery against missile boats (though Bjorn gave me a hint, I've yet to apply it, I'll try it someday soon enough I'm sure).

But today, its about bomber and nuclear mines ;_; ....
Is it me or they have much stronger shielding? I shot many time in one's shield and it barely went down by half.
It was actually resistant to the point where I spammed it with sunslayer on close range, managed to actually -kill myself- with my -own- torpedoes, and him, still alive, to shoot at my wingman, Katya o0...

I was like.... err... okay...
Is there... any sort of trick against bombers VHF can do?

here is a tip, never stay in the same direction, put afterburn on and of on an off constantly

well that much I know how to dodge and all. But torpedoes are most effective for front attacks, right, since they have so little manoeuvrability.

It's just you...bombers use the exact same shields as VHFs:P

Main thing against bombers? Don't joust. SN to the face is painful. Use your mobility against them (assuming you're not fighting a catamaran). Oh, and don't joust.

Well... After chasing you Xing and having Ares ambush me...

FYI: Ares - You owe me for those NPCs that utterly annihilated my Guardian >_<

*ahem*

I noticed that one of the main reasons that bombers are able to 'get on' you or torp you is due to you flying straight at them, but not in the way that by hearing that you would think...

I flew straight at Ares however I would strafe under him, from the direction angle it is pretty hard to aim as you can't have a good view of what your shooting at, and on some bombers the plane below them is exempt from their Torps/SNAC.

I have alot more stuff that I could say but...

I wouldn't want everyone knowing what I do! I can PM you it later if you want...

hm, Walker that last time we met I was flying drowsy because Yue was under influence of a nomad. I even maintained straight flight from time to time if you noticed, so it was an acting.

but anyway. I think what I really need is a good wep setting because atm I have just a bunch of random lvl 9 and 2 nomad blasters...

Yes - And you where still a monster to hit >_<

You could try for a more basic grouping of weapons.

2-3 Shield Busters, 3-4 Hull, Missile.

As for the shielding - I noticed that when I hit some laggers their shield recharges very fast... It could mostly be lag on your/their side.

Oh another fun trick since you listed Mines...

You can infact shoot mines down, I've done it plenty of times in the place of a Train CD. It killed some poor Sabre...

ah I see now... thank you Walker

A bomber jousting a VHF with a Sunslayer is more suicidal. You just gotta remember to fire it before you get close range, bombers have more hull strength than you do. But the Sunslayer will strip their weapons off.
A VHF with a cruise disruptor can also stop a bomber from jousting by hitting them with it. The CD also disrupts engine kill, and if your lucky they might try to mine you, then you can CD them, and blow off their weapons. Although this is more effective when you're flying a LF.
Another tactic would be to lay a mine before every pass while jousting. If the opponent isn't very good they'll eat a face full of mine, or at the very least will be forced to make a longer turn to avoid the mine. Most PVP bombers don't carry CDs so you shouldn't have to worry about your mines being used against you.

Another tip is to always strafe, never stop even to fire a torpedo or mine. It may be a little more awkward, but use your middle finger for that, and set your torp to Q rather than shift+Q and it might also be useful to set your up/down strafe to W and S (assuming you use the default or similar keymap). When strafing, try not to backtrack into places you've already strafed to recently, chances are theres a gun projectile firing there. Strafing in figures of 8 is the best way I've found, but hard to co-ordinate your fingers. If your shield goes down fighting a bomber, they're gonna try SN you at the next pass. Don't shield camp, just use strafing to help you make a wider pass, and when you hear the SN fire, change strafing directions but don't backtrack.

And... never fly backways on E-kill and shoot. (unless your fleeing on thruster and are out of gun range, then E-kill, spin around, fire a Sunslayer at them, then turn back around and keep flying)
