How Cloaks work - Aereon - 10-21-2016

Hey guys

can someone explain to me how the new cloaks work, last time i played Disco you had to use Mox,H-fuel etc to cloak, now they use batteries ?

So! My Main questions are :

  1. How much cargo space does each type of cloak use ?
Do the batteries also take up cargo space ? if So how much ?
How long do these batteries last ?/ can you remain cloaked for.

Any Feed back would be super helpful!

thankz

1:
Cloaking device Mk1 (fighter/bomber)
Cargo Requirements: 25
• Cargo Hold Limit: 120
• Time to Cloak when activated: 3 seconds
• Fuel Consumption Rate: 8 Light Batteries per second while the cloak is active

Cloaking device Mk2 (freighter/gunboat/cruiser)
• Cargo Requirements: 200
• Cargo Hold Limit: 900
• Time to Cloak when activated: 20 seconds
• Fuel Consumption Rate: 4 Light Batteries per second while the cloak is active

Cloaking device Advanced Mk2 (BC/BS/Carrier)
• Cargo Requirements: 450
• Cargo Hold Limit: 900-2199
• Time to Cloak when activated: 60 seconds
• Fuel Consumption Rate: 1 Light Batteries per second while the cloak is active

Cloaking device Mk3 (transports)
Cargo Requirements: 200
Cargo Hold Limit: 2200+
Time to Cloak when activated: 20 seconds
Fuel Consumption Rate: 1 Heavy Battery per second while the cloak is active

(this datas got extracted from the Player Base Guide from The Angels)

2: No, but you can carry 1000 batteries on each type of ship

3: easy to calculate

Yes, you can buy the batteries in the ammunition section.
The light ones do not consume space but the heavy ones do - I think 2 cargo space for one heavy.

Cloaking time for a snub is about one minute, for a freighter/GB about 4 minutes.

The MKII advanced (trading ships) gives you the longest times available about 20 minutes or more.
Sorry haven't used it for a long time.

edit: thanks Ikarus, I coultn'd find it.

Mostly right. Let me correct it a little:
-Transports use the MkIII cloak not the MkII Adv. Both can store 1000 batteries but the MkIII (Transport) runs on Heavy batteries. Both consume 1/sec and so can stay cloaked for about 15 minutes.

-I'm not sure but last time the MKIII cloak took 600 cargo, not 200.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Cruise Disruptors will disrupt the cloak during it's charge-up. So basically nothing but a fighter (3 sec charge-up) can get away from a fight. The charge will also be interrupted if you initiate or end a jump via Jump Holes/ Jump Gates. (the time in between is about 15 seconds, only enough for a fighter to cloak)

- If you manage to cloak, your device emits a silent, but recognizable sound which can be heard by other ships from 4K distance. With the introduction of Cloak Disruptors others can actively hunt down a cloaking ship, but it's pretty rare to happen.

- Even when cloaked, enemies who targeted you before the cloaking will still have you targeted (while invisible) and can shoot CDs and other missiles at you, slowing you down, tracking you or destroying you. This limits the fighter cloak's getaway ability. Note that Jumping to another system deletes the targeting.

Conclusion:
Cloaks are a lot of fun, but they have a lot of counters now, so their use is limited:
- Fighter cloak: You can get away most of the time.
- Gunboat/Cruiser cloak: You can surprise attack others.
- Transport/Battleship: You can spy on others and can surprise attack.

Hope this helped! Have fun and take care! Wink
