Roleplay - Ash - 12-15-2008 Now this is a matter that's been troubling me for some time and i feel it needs to be noted by the entire community. And the matter is roleplay. Over the numerous conflicts and disagreements among those of us who feel unjustified we have overlooked a simple but troublesome matter that may be the main reason why these disagreements occurred in the first place. People have their own opinions on roleplay and have the right to their opinions. But each of us; even though we may be playing the game for our self satisfaction and entertainment; need to realise that we are part of a community. That is an untoldand unseen rule of discovery, because as soon as you created that first character and flew your starflier off of Manhatten, you had a responsibility. Those of us may have realised it during their time as part of the community, but sadly to say there are those of us who are yet to understand. And so for those people i state here, that we have a responsibility to be understanding and unselfish towards our fellow players; and to do things that somtimes we may not like so that others can have a decent roleplay experience. You may not understand their roleplay, or agree with it, but if you just chill out for two seconds instead of trying to find a way to word a sanction report, you can probably find a way to just go with it. And leave the sanction threads for more serious concerns. Let me put it into perspective. Two children are playing cowboys and indians. Child #1: BANG! You're dead! Child #2: What? No i'm not, that's not fair! Child #1: I shot you, you're dead, fall over. Child #2: Umm....well i jump out of the way! Haha! Child #1: No! You can't do that! I shot you, so you're dead. Child #2: PEW! I shot you with my arrow, you're dead! Child #1: What? No i'm not, that's not fair! You get the picture. As these two definatley have completley different pictures of what the RP should be like; And what should be the outcome of the scene. This also applies to discovery, you get two guys who are gonna have two completley ideas for PvP or a RP conversation, and there's a big possibility it's going to end up on the forums. So what i'm trying to imply is, that somtimes it's easier for one of them to just accept their fate and go along with the RP. And if everyone takes this into account we can have alot more fluant and successful RP scenes, and less conflicts over petty differences. So let's put it into perspective again. Two children playing cowboys and indians. Take two. Child #1: BANG! You're dead! Child #2: Ahhhhh! *Falls over arms flailing* Child #1: *Blows finger* Child #2: *Still dead* Child #1: *Walks over to child #2 and helps him up* That was fun Child #2: Yeah, maybe i can win next time? Child #1: Let's do it again then. You get the picture. And as immature as it may sound, this also applies to discovery. If you come online expecting to have the time of you're life with your new RP idea in mind then think again. You're not always going to win. And so it's easier somtimes to accept defeat or let your opponent get away with somthing than to start a fire and make somthing out of nothing. Roleplay. It's a two way street, and no-one has priority. Thanks for reading. 'Ash Roleplay - Saigo.Watanabe - 12-15-2008 I also hate the time when people prefer to fire on you because you have a hostile tag and iff, instead of having a good rp. Sure they give warnings to leave the area most of the time bla bla, but surely its fun to have a good rp now and then? Roleplay - Linkus - 12-15-2008 Hostage situations. Please, can the lawfuls PLEASE not go 'They are all alive' after you spent almost an hour shooting each and every one of them on public systemwide comms? Not only does it ruin the entire RP that had been going on, but it's downright rude and pathetic. Roleplay - Vic - 12-15-2008 ' Wrote:Child #1: BANG! You're dead! OMGAWDS DATS NAWT FARE!!11!11!!!one!!!!1!ninty-nine!11!!!!!! Err... Well, what I meant to say was; slash-signed! If you join a role-playing server then you should have some wit about you as to role-play. I fail to see the necessity of telling people how to role-play, it's redundant. I understand setting down the basics, back story, and setting people into their roles. But the trend seems to to be more on the technical aspects on how to rather than actual role-playing. Why can't people just play the game and enjoy themselves? Move along if you don't want to follow server standards.* Roleplay - Barrier - 12-15-2008 /signed This post is needed for all the people who think that rp is stupid, although they play on an rp server. Great job. Roleplay - teschy - 12-15-2008 ' Wrote:Hostage situations. Not only does it ruin the entire RP that had been going on, but it's downright rude and pathetic. The problem with hostage situations is that the unlawful side always holds the upper hand. And they will always win. And it's rude not to let your opponent win from time to time, in RP sessions. Roleplay - Kambei - 12-15-2008 I start to hate those traders in NB trying to lawyer me out every day from NB... once I cant demand their cargo, second time I cant be in NB system, third time I cant keep killed TL more than hour... bla bla bla nad best of all I cant be in system within 4 hours if I die but all involved in battle are almost 30 miutes offline. to those boring, annoying, lawyering JERKS... READ THOSE RULES WHICH YOU WANT TO USE AGAINST ME FIRST THAN YOU START SPAM CHAT WITH OOC JUNK IDIOTS. o 4th case... I have no problem to stay away from NB if I die even after those who killed me leaved Rheinland or goes off but it must be on RP basis... I dont count as RP when 2 of you which died while ago (which is technicaly reengaging) jump into their caps (wtf? IMG gunboat with zoner destroyer hunt for no reason pirate in Rheinland? = OORP) and kill me while I obey their order to leave.... or better when im killed by 2 freelancers in taidans with IFF green to me (single lawfull IFF which is green to me is BAF) armed with coladas, with help of bountyhunter in orca "working for free" with bad IFF again... no this is not RP and I ignor that. So there is time to use lawyering on my side and go back into NB when they are off. Sad for you. You all can be happy beacause I didnt reported yet single of you NB jerk-traders for OOC chat, Lawyering in chat, wrong IFFs and IDs, missing IDs, multiple IDs, combination of wrong ID-IFF-SHIP-GUNS, cruising, bad words and reengaging.... and I see that crap in NB every day. But my nerves arent from steel. You can be happy there is someone who make your boring day more chalenging. ____ jerk-trader is trader who is big idiot enough to try fly around me full of diamonds after he died 2 minutes ago or trader who sit 45 minutes at the orbit of NB full of diamonds and have OOC monologue about how unfair it is instead of using alternative way or different cargo. Roleplay - Linkus - 12-16-2008 Hostage situations are a flaw in the armour of lawfuls, it's something that the unlawfuls can use against them. Much like how it is in real life, there's just little chance of escape in real life. Really, the lawfuls ought to blow them up, since they don't negotiate with hostage takers etc. Roleplay - Death.RunningVerminator - 12-16-2008 i like RP! Roleplay - pchwang - 12-16-2008 This, again, goes back to the point that I've tried to get across multiple times. Discovery is a game, and like all good things, it will eventually end at some point in the future. Everyone here is here to have a good time, and on the point of RP, there is no point in restricting someone based on what they can or cannot do. Turn the other cheek, smile, and nod. If they really bother you, fly away. Go somewhere else. While it lasts, let's all just have a good time being here. This, however, does not preclude the fact that there are some in the community who do not have the same amount of respect for it as everyone else. Those individuals do need to be curbed and reprimanded. |
