A unique buff for the screamer? - nOmnomnOm - 12-13-2016

I was comparing the nuclear vs screamer mine in my head and wondering why would someone choose screamer over nuclear mine.
As of now, the only reason id think you would choose it is that it wont damage yourself if you mess up. The radius is lower than it once was and in my opinion that increased radius balanced not having hull damage.


Well how about we give a special use for the screamer mine? How about we explore its EMP qualities.
What about this....

If it hits a ship with no shields, their power core will fail for 5 seconds ( the same as exiting cruise ).
This could be a nice tactical mine. It can instead of hull damage , paralyse the target and be able to punish him by shooting while he cannot shoot back effectively.

What do you think?

I don't know if that would even be limitable on shiptypes and I wouldn't want that globally. Otherwise that Battleship over there will never fire again...

That could just be simulated by being hit by the mine as it is already. As a pulse weapon it drains core (I think).

Maybe have the screamer mine also function as a weaker version of the CD could be cool as well. Drop a screamer and stop some guy who just flew into it.

Mostly the Screamer is made for Light Fighters who need to use all of their weapon hardpoints (nearly all snubs have only four) for Hullbusters, else they have to suffer slowly chipping off hull for days, months, years.

Fighter = nuke mine
Bomber = screamer mine

Screamers as Omicega said are widely used on bombers.
Nuclear mines are widely used on VHFs.
The real mine that gets no use is the Ripper. It's supposed to be the top tier, but it's 20m/s extra speed is just not worth the lower damage.

Serious question.

1. They deshield a snub in 1 hit.
2. They provide an easier time deshielding the snub because of extra speed and acceleration.
3. They don't damage your own hull if you mine yourself.

It doesn't matter if you nuke them on hull since you're looking for a one shot SNAC anyways. As for your idea, I think it's physically impossible to implement. Also, disco reacts really poorly to negative damage (EMP equipment damaging your core).
