Hellfire Legion - GMG Alt - 01-11-2017 Quite frankly, I honestly find the idea of Hellfire Legion to be pretty silly, especially considering their current power. Despite being the newest of all the Liberty unlawful factions, existing for just over twenty years they have somehow gone on to colonize a planet and are the only Liberty based unlawful faction capable of constructing their own battleships. The whole how did they even get that docking ring mess also doesn't really help this. Aside from the lore not making any sense, they also manage to draw away some of the little love the Xeno might have by having relatively similar diplomacy, except in the case of Hellfire Legion their indies are able to fly battlecruisers. Oh, lets not also forget that despite again being the newest Liberty unlawful group Hellfire who have existed for just over twenty years have a shipline, compared to Xenos who lack one. And they've existed for at least a hundred. And then there's the Liberty jumphole rework that happened relatively recently that as far as can be seen is literally only to make the "Hellfire systems" more relevant at the cost of everyone else. For instance, the Texas / Penny connections to each other were recently changed so that instead both bases connected to Kansas again. At the exact same spot as the old jumpholes. Despite the fact two bases in Penny specifically mention the connection to Texas. This makes it much harder for every other unlawful group to get around. Basically, this faction is leftover from back during a time when our roleplay standards were much, much less than what they are now. In my opinion the faction should either be removed completely or toned down to a much more reasonable level, comparable to that of the Xenos. With that in mind I'd personally like to hear the viewpoint of the community on this. RE: Hellfire Legion - Vendetta - 01-11-2017 Lol, this thread again? No matter how many times people bring it up, they're not going to change. If anything, they've gone from being garbage to better over the years and now serve a purpose with potential for more. The Xenos weren't founded by military runaways with advanced technology, but rather some upset citizens and miners who were sick of foreign influence. They're a movement, not a military organization trying to form their own Government, which the Legion did successfully do. As for the system changes, that was done to shrink the number of useless systems in the area like Alabama and Humboldt, which were merged with Kansas and Vespucci, both of which now have mineral fields to be viable for use and close connections to other systems. Kansas was a Liberty world, after all, but never saw use by the Republic. So when the Separatists moved in and claimed it for themselves, it became a Separatist system with life. So whatever claims of low standards there are, I advise you read the forums a little bit more. There's factions that have done far less RP/Lore wise that exist and have more pull than the Legion does. RE: Hellfire Legion - Sombs - 01-11-2017 The Hellfire Faction lore is pretty okay-ish. The same for their player behavior. Other than some other factions, they refrain from spamming battleships. I didn't know the Hellfire Indie ID can use Battlecruisers. Is that a thing? The only problem that Hellfire currently has is the lack of actual roleplay-focused members. It's like Derprandal and Petits are doing the roleplay-aspect on their own, while the rest is just for the pews. Also, I'd refrain from complaining about a faction having a complete set of ship models. If you want the Xenos to have a ship line, make them. RE: Hellfire Legion - Enkidu - 01-11-2017 If anything they need a gameplay buff (which they've been progressively getting). My problem is their broken lore. They're like the Lane Hackers with battleships/Spartans/Marcus-Walker-on-'Roids. Their bases need infocards that don't provoke "fer' real?" as a response. Especially that batman cave of an asteroid superfortress. Edit: The poetry on that particular battleship is a sweet, unique touch, however. Edit edit: Justin has been significantly improving their quality in this department. RE: Hellfire Legion - Wesker - 01-11-2017 I think the HF would be better if I was the 1ic RE: Hellfire Legion - Shelco - 01-11-2017 (01-11-2017, 07:29 PM)Wesker Wrote: I think the HF would be better if I was the 1ic No. RE: Hellfire Legion - Durandal - 01-11-2017 >GMG Alt Hi Friday! In all seriousness, whoever you are, you made this thread at a pretty interesting time considering I'm giving the facstat a full overhaul, and am going to be introducing some new code of conduct rules which are probably going to have 80% of my members trying to tear throat out. I'd say that I would appreciate you waiting and seeing what that looks like before petitioning for the removal of an entire faction, (which is extremely amusing, considering you are not targeting the RHA (battleships), Dragons (battleships), CR (LOL BSG!!111!!!), Core, or any other non vanilla and/or have significantly deviated from vanilla factions.) but I know from experience that these threads tend to be emotionally driven rather than out of any desire to improve server roleplay, and that's a laugh anyway because I'm betting you've never tried sitting down and roleplaying with any of us. RE: Hellfire Legion - Petitioner - 01-11-2017 It might be bad form for me to refer to the post of a banned user, but I feel like it applies here, too. RE: Hellfire Legion - Friday - 01-11-2017 Hi Durandal! I do remember asking "who da hell are the HF anyway?" back in the day :-D This was at a time when Guard Systems were starting to be normalised into the lore, and some of the more extreme elements of those systems were coming under scrutiny. We make do with what we have, including the Hellfire Legion. if the writer doesnt like the HF, perhaps some events to push back against the faction are in order? In which case I'd refer you to The War Within, an official event which took place last fall for the introduction of a Gaian base in Vespucci, giving them a native enemy as their borders grew larger (but their military and political power not necessarily stronger). I wouldn't be adverse to more of this kind of thing, but it requires outsiders other than Liberty to actually want to interact with us. That might be an interesting avenue to pursue with factions other than the Gaians. The LH, BHG, and Junkers come to mind in particular! |
