53rd Squadron – Athena Squadron - Crayter Republic - 01-16-2017 “In Gods we trust , all other we research!”
The primary mission of all 53rd ships is research and exploration, thus they only possess moderate defenses. The 53rd ships spends a great deal of their time exploring the Edge Worlds and Border Worlds, the uncharted and unexplored areas of space that have not been claimed by any known organization and if the situation arise, also in known systems. As this is the case, 53rd ships are often the first Crayterian vessel that someone might come into contact with. This privilege and burden of first contact is not taken lightly and, as the slightest misinterpreted action can result in tragedy, the crews and commanding officers of 53rd ships are extremely well versed in first-contact procedures. Due to 53rd ships dominating the exploration field, they are equipped with the latest in sensor and communications technology, allowing greater ease in contacting and communicating with different places in Sirius. Also, several large planetary probe allow Athena ships to chart and explore entire planets within a few short weeks, laying the foundation for a more detailed expedition. The Squadron is also commissioned by the Crayterian Fleet or CMI to map certain systems and to plot safe jumps for the ships , in case the emergency jump is required. The 53rd was used since ancient times by the Government in relations with research and development , hence the strong tie the squadron is having with Crayterian University or the CDI department. The Athena Squadron also is responsible for the largest public Library in Crayter space , available to the public 24 hours via the neural net and physical at the Library address from 42 Chalkidiky , New Astarte city. The squadron is currently financed for a number of 6 ships , however , only a few had been commissioned for space. Current task : The current task of the 53rd is to find ways of fighting the over-growing flora on Yuma planet and to find new deposits of minerals for the CMI. Secondary task is to find new weapons and to study artifacts in the hope of a better understanding of life and the universe. Bases Planet Yuma, Coronado. The 53rd HQ on planet Yuma is build on the floating city of New Astarte city. The place is a huge complex where it combines the HQ of the Squadron with the Library. The place is partially opened to public , however there are areas restricted guarded by Crayterian Security Forces. Naming Convention =CR=53rd-Shipname example: =CR=53rd-Galileo Rank Structure Chief Scientist Distinct rank, allowing them to control shipping manifests and corporate income on a certain ship or area , also is responsible for the research aboard their vesel. Scientist The backbone of the 53rd ships. The scientist is a privileged class working aboard the ships. They have different specializations and are able to perform any task aboard the ship. Librarian Librarians are the people on the ground so to say.Their main task is to compile data in the library and to maintain the library working properly for anyone who wishes to access it. A number of twenty soil samples (to a depth of 10 cm) were collected randomly from each of the four sites from planet Pittsburgh, along the mining operations and the industrial zones. Ten samples were stored at 5 °C (but extracted within 24 h) and the remaining ten samples were air‐dried at room temperature, ground, and sieved through a 2‐mm mesh. The air‐dried soils were slowly saturated with water over a 2 day period. Sub-samples of 25 g were centrifuged for 30 min at 12000 rpm in a HS Centrifuge. Concentrations of K, Ca, Mg, Fe, and Na were measured using a AA‐55875 S atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The anions Cl, SO4 and NO3 were measured using ion chromatography. Where there are minerals present and industry present that work with materials based on aluminium, in the soil there is usually enough aluminium to buffer the pH at around 4 and to subject non‐tolerant plants to aluminium toxicity. When aluminium is not present, as in organic soils, the aluminium buffering is lost, the pH can fall to well below 4 and H+ ions dominate the composition of the soil solution. If this interpretation is correct then the existence of plant races separately adapted to H+ toxicity or Al3+ toxicity is predicted on the surface of the planet. Factors associated with soil acidity is also considered to be limiting plants in many parts of Pittsburgh. This work was undertaken to investigate the role of the toxicity of hydrogen (H+) which seems to have been considered by Crayterian ecologists as an explanation of the reduced plant growth observed. It must be emphasized that in this study very acid organic soils (pH<4.0) have been distinguished from acid mineral soils (pH 4.0–5.0) where the major yield‐limiting constraint is generally considered to be Al toxicity or H deficiency. <<<<<<<<<<End of preliminary report>>>>>>>>>>>> RE: 53rd Squadron – Athena Squadron - Atreides2 - 04-12-2017
YUMA SOIL AND SOIL FORMATIONS (53-444887-B)
The crystalline formations discovered in the caves of Yuma are nothing like the silicate formations or carbon based formation which gives the formation the hard and dense structure. The YCF (Yuma Crystalline Formations) are a soft formation , easy to break and also very soluble in contact with water. How the formation came into existence is still to be researched , however several theories are already starting to take shape. The YCF is comprised of several key elements that may explain the growth rate of the plant life at the surface , as there are high concentrations of potassium , nitrogen , phosphorous and uranium. The nitrogen is taken up by plant through it’s roots from the soil after it was absorbed in the water streams. This protein is important for the development of new cells within , which gives the plant it’s growth and also the speed. The phosphorus plays an important role in the physical development of the plant. It is also used to move energy and nutrients around itself , and thus repairing any damaged part of the plant. Also , is one of the key elements in the plant photosynthesis , a crucial element in the formation of nucleic acids which in it’s turn helps form the DNA. Potassium is the key in the physiological process in a plant life , as it helps the plant to function normally. It is an element that helps the plant in the photosynthesis process and also to activate enzymes , form sugars and synthesize proteins. Uranium is one of the elements that puzzles , as it is found in concentrations range of 7 to 150 pcI\g in the formation. It is theorised that in it’s past , Yuma had what scientists call “a natural nuclear reactor” , which says that at the formation of the planet , high deposits of uranium were found on the planet. When the building blocks of life met the surface and started to create life and here we discuss about the plant life as well , there was an increase of oxygen , quite sudden (1< and then it reached 2,5< ) which started the fission reaction when the uranium became mobile. As the natural reactor started to be active a lot of depleted uranium had been left from the reaction , uranium started to decay which is now in a solvable state as oxidized uranium (U6+). As all the plant life in the vicinity of the natural reactors prospered , it also got uranium compound in their cellular structure , which modified the DNA. In time , the uranium started to decay and now is in no state to cause any more mutations , however , the mutated plant life started to take over the land , using a more aggressive growth rate and also overtook the normal plants. In the millennials since that incident , the plant life have evolved , diversify and prospered , having no real competitor besides their own mutated strain. The soil of Yuma is also very rich on micronutrients , as molybdenum, zinc, and copper. These elements are provided as water-soluble salts. Another theory is that besides the all of the above conditions and elements , the mutated strain also had another natural advantage in the region , as traces of the sodium nitrate was found in the soil , which is a natural fertilizer. Our teams are still looking to locate any big deposits of the sodium nitrate around the old natural reactors. Another item to take into consideration when we analyse the formation of the current plant life on Yuma is the wavelength that the planet received and what it means for the photosynthesis which is called PAR. Photosynthetically active radiation, often abbreviated PAR, designates the spectral range (wave band) of solar radiation from 400 to 700 nanometers that photosynthetic organisms are able to use in the process of photosynthesis. This spectral region corresponds more or less with the range of light visible to the human eye. In photosynthesis comes from the Yield Photon Flux (YPF) curve, which indicates that orange and red photons between 510 and 600 nm can result in 20 to 30% more photosynthesis. The study will continue with several individual plant life example , their analysis and genetic makeup.

RE: 53rd Squadron – Athena Squadron - Atreides2 - 04-13-2017 YUMA LANDMASS : TRIPOLI – 53- 44122312-C
Location Alessandrios Ocean Coordinates 5°30′S 141°00′ECoordinates: 5°30′S 141°00′E Archipelago Tripoli archipelago (26 smaller islands) Area 785,753 km2 (303,381 sq mi) Area rank 8th Highest elevation 5,884 m Highest point Mt. Goodsman Nearby settlement/s New Aegaeon Artificial Island New Rhodes Artificial Island New Bosphorus Ocean Farming Island New Athos Ocean Farming Island New Tiraspol Ocean Farming Island With some 786,000 km2 of tropical land Tripoli has an immense biodiversity, containing 8 percent of the total species on the planet. A high percentage of Tripoli’s species are endemic, and thousands are still unknown to science: probably well over 200,000 species of insect, between 11,000 and 20,000 plant species, and over 650 resident bird species. Most of these species are shared, at least in their origin, with the whole of the archipelago, which was until fairly recent geological times part of the same landmass. In the period from 820 A.S to present, scientists identified 1,060 species in Tripoli, including 218 plants, 43 reptiles, 12 mammals, 580 invertebrates, 134 amphibians, 2 birds and 71 fish. Eco-regions According to the 53rd and the Crayterian University, Tripoli can be divided 5 terrestrial regions -Central Island Region -Northern Sector -Western Sector -Eastern Sector -Southern Sector Remarkable Flora and Fauna In the center of the region , we have the river of Yanutz , slithering to the Alessandrios Ocean. The banks of the river are covered mostly with pink grass and small trees due to the presence of a bacteria in the soil that is assimilated in the absorbing of nutriments from the soil. The plant is very resilient to different levels of radiation and it had been proved that any alpha and beta radiation will just increase the growing rate. The plant is more interesting because of her seeds , which the scientist observed several species of vertebrates using it when they are sick or starving. The plant shows an increasing rate of proteins then the normal terran plants and it should be looked more carefully by the University. In the Valley of Forge , there are some plant specimens that are colored in black. The reason for this is a mutation that the plant life sustained in their evolution. The Valley is not entirely open , and so the sunlight is barely reaching the ground and thus making the plants to change their pigmentation from green to black-ish. The plants are lacking the normal photosynthetic process is replaced by a more chemical one , the plants been proven to absorb great amounts of nutrients. Due to the radioactivity in the soil , the plants are highly radioactive. The colorful marks is a sign for any herbivore animals not to touch them , however , several poisonous animals have been seen consuming them, thus making the scientists to believe that it helps the animal to extract a toxin for their venom. This plants do not show the same rate of growing as their green counterparts , which proves that light is an important element in the growing process. On the shores of northern zone , this type of Green Dyson-algae is seen. As it is already cataloged and used in a lot of Crayterian Enterprises , as in Farming , filters and the like , it needs to be noted that is highly nutritious and that is growing rate is very high, the algae been able to multiply and grow twice in a day. Towards the Goodsman Mountain there are the Trees of Metal. Growing to the height of 3-4,5 m , the trees have a remarkable feature unseen in any other species. The trunk of the tree is covered in metals , a natural alloy that the tree is building after it absorbs the necessary minerals from the soil. The alloy is formed from Ferrite ,Austenite,Cementite,Graphite and Martensite elements. The corrosion-retarding effect of the protective layer is produced by the particular distribution and concentration of alloying elements in it. The layer protecting the surface develops and regenerates continuously when subjected to the influence of the weather. The trees seed seems to be able to resist to any type of soil and their growing rate is at a factor of 10 , which can have industrial application. The Honey-Tree is also found near the Goodsman mountain. The tree is 2 meters high and it’s leaves contain a substance that is sweet and resemble the regular honey. The substance had been analysed and it shows that it is having medical application , as it can be used for burns or any type of open wounds , acting as a catalyst for a quick recovery and as an antiseptic. The Tripoli is having an abundance of Blue Hexamil. This animal is of small to medium size , it presents an exoskeleton that is having an endurance and strength level similar to diamond. They are amphibians and despite their size they do not have natural enemies, however , they can be killed by an electric shock. The meat also presents interest as it similar to the oysters , however the nutrient value is higher. The Hexamil is able to reproduce fast , having been noted 5 mating periods in a year. <<<<<<<<<<End of file. DIAMETER: 3,837 km MASS: 3.23 x 10e24 kg TERRAIN: N/A TEMPERATURE: N/A ESCAPE VELOCITY: 15.42 km/sec Brief Situated in quadrant 5G, is orbiting the Salina at an approximate range of 14 clicks, tide locked to the giant , forcing the moon to face the Coronado Sun. The moon is experiencing on the half of it’s surface extreme temperature , while the side facing the Salina is below the freezing point. The satellite is having present a thin atmosphere of Carbon Dioxide and Argon, not having enough atmosphere to allow mining operations on the whole moon. The moon is experiencing high levels of earthquakes in the deep and magma flows on the surface, as the planet core is instable and the crust is thin. However, the magnetic field that is encircling the moon is not strong enough to block enough radiation to attempt a terraforming attempt. The soil composition is rich in minerals as it is going to be presented in the second section of the survey. The formation of the planetoid is not clear but there are theories which present a cataclysm that occurred millions of years ago and involved the direct interaction between two larger moons of Salina. Due to the presence of the Gas Giant and with the high gravity well of the planet , the current asteroid belt and the moons were formed around molten cores of minerals. Mineral Survey The planetoid presents a surface riddle with lava flows on the surface. 53rd initiated a week survey of the satellite with LRM-31 Probe and HAR-18 Buoys. The following map was created. The main sites were discovered on the dark side of the moon, showing promising results for a mining situation. Ten sites were marked, each one having a higher concentration of Iron and Nickel, with bauxite and small deposits gold and rare materials as rhodium, platinum and Soccoro Crystals. Site N-68 is and iron deposit that is near the surface and can be mined by automated miners and it presents in depth a very long vein of the said mineral. Sites N-69, N-67 is presenting veins of rhodium and platinum but a deep scan could not be concluded. The 53rd squadron recommend the usage of shielded drones as the sites are near magma flows and the same units to be used for a more hand on approached in the caves resulting from the initial mining. Model AUM-72 is recommended. Site N-66 is presenting with crystalline formations that can be used in the data storage or in the development of computers. The crystals seems to be similar to the ones used in Crayterian technologies before the Exodus. Sites M-55 and M-54 is presenting traces of Gold and alloys. The veins presented seems to go deep in the planetoid crust. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Sites A-12, A-11 and A-13 have high concentration of Nickel. The deposits are closely to the surface and relatively easy to mine. A-09 is containing Nickel-Copper-Platinum Ore which can be smelted on the factories on Pecos, Tellurian region. Extraction The 53rd is recommending of building a low orbit station on the dark side of the moon, or in the case an “Arturos” class facility in one of the less seismic area on the satellite. In case of the second recommendation a set of buoys needs to be dispatch on low orbit for the control of the mining drones. For the mining operation, shielded mining drones AUM-72 , AM-13, AM-28 to be used. Utility droid AIA-28 to be utilised on the Drone Command Centre for coordination and adjustment. Celestra and small freighters should provide the logistics needed for this operation. Disclaimer: write-up belongs to @Atreides2. I added pictures and formatted the post.
RE: 53rd Squadron – Athena Squadron - Johnathan Nox Carter - 07-13-2017 Oraibi Survey (53-57213119-M) Solar Grid Location: 5F-G
DIAMETER: 4,076 km MASS: 4.84 x 10e24 kg TERRAIN: N/A TEMPERATURE: N/A ESCAPE VELOCITY: 15.42 km/sec Brief Oraibi is situated in the far end corner of the quadrant at approximately 20 clicks from Salina. The moon is of a volcanic nature, having lava flows on the surface with a thin atmosphere that protects the surface from the cosmic radiation present in the system of Coronado but not enough to commence a terraform process. The moon surface is presenting high deposits of Copper under layers of Sodium oxide dust and it is also present on the surface high level of noxious gases, but however there are pockets where the density of the gases is lower. The main characteristic of this moon is the destructive force of the gases presented on the surface which required shielded LRM-39 drones to penetrate, indicating that humans operating in the low orbit would be practically impossible in long periods of time. Situated in the ice belt of Salina, Oraibi is also attracting small ice asteroids towards it, which at contact with upper atmosphere melt and for a short period of time they form small cloud formations which in return hit the surface as highly acidic rain. The Oraibi is classified as a planetoid class D by the 53rd and as a class G by the CMI. Mineral Survey The planetoid presents a surface riddle with lava flows on the surface. 53rd ship “Galileo” initiated a week survey of the satellite with LRM-39 Shielded Probe and HAR-18-S Buoys. The following map was created. The mining survey revelead that there are only 4 zones which allow mining operation on the moon, all of them situated in the South East section of the moon diagram. The Site C-100 is very rich in Copper ore and other minerals, being also one of the largest mineable locations on the moon, being as wide as two quadrants (J-5 and J-6) and relatively one quadrant and a half. The mountain designated as MF-23 is having also veins of copper which are believed to be running deep inside the mountain. Site C-107 and C-111 are two small deposits of Copper ore and copper alloys which can be mined with relatively ease, as the veins are starting from the surface of the moon and where traced till 3 clicks in the surface. It is presumed that a larger deposit can be found under the estimated depth. Site O-87 is composed of alloys of Copper and Platinum or Nickel which seems to also be found in nearby sectors at a small density. Extraction The 53rd recommend using only unmanned vehicles for this mining operation, with heavily shielded units against the noxious gases and the acids. (See Yuma Robotics for references on the Drone Model) There is not advisable to build any local Drone Command Centre, but in place to use small buoys to link the DCC on Socorro. Storage units is not adivisable to be build in the atmosphere, the ones on Socorro to be used. Disclaimer: write-up belongs to @Atreides2. I added pictures and formatted the post.
RE: 53rd Squadron – Athena Squadron - Johnathan Nox Carter - 07-13-2017 Jericho Survey (53-57213121-M) Solar Grid Location: 7-6F
DIAMETER: 24,216 km MASS: 9.89 x 9e24 kg TERRAIN: Barren TEMPERATURE: Frigid ESCAPE VELOCITY: 8.42 km/sec Brief Much of this survey was conducted with the help and supervision of the Crayter Intelligence Service, so it shall be kept to the point. The moon known as Jericho orbits Planet Salina at roughly 11k, and presents itself as a barren wasteland - devoid of atmosphere. Orbital scans could only indicate that the surface is comprised of silicates, with the the terrain being generally desert-like, with occasional plateaus that spring over the average altitude. The planetoid's magnetic field is extremely powerful in terms of EM activity, making all orbital analysis - except pure visual scans - almost impossible if not done with Spyglass technology. Moreso, the planet's surface, as well as the surrounding perimeter (aprox. 1k in outwards-length) presents high radioactive activity, mainly of the Gamma variety. Various wreckages - presumed ancient - have been noted visually in locations ranging from the moon's ecuator to it's south pole. The Thanatos Cruiser "Boreas" is currently deployed in the moon's orbit, along with a series of buoys, meant to keep the area secured and ensure the safety of spacefarers that come too close. Mineral Survey Due to the extreme radiation and EM interference from the planetoid's magnetic field, the entire surface of the planet could not be mapped. However, an electromagnetic "cold spot" was found near Jericho's north pole and the following scans were made over said area. Using LRM-42 drones, it was discovered that location dubbed "A-32" holds a significantly large cluster of aluminium and titanium ores. While the drones attempted to exit the "cold spot" for further surveying the moon's surface, all telemetry was lost, however the last information we received suggests the planetoid to be deficient in large mineral deposits. Extraction Considering the conditions in place, 53rd would suggest that the only viable mining strategy would be a deep dive inside the moon's crust, where the enclosing radiation does not seem to be present. That would allow for a proper facility to be built underground, near area A-32, and any further mining operations to be launched from such a facility. RE: 53rd Squadron – Athena Squadron - Hax - 07-21-2017 Tova Survey (53-57213122-M) Solar Grid Location: 6E
DIAMETER: 4,076 km MASS: 4.84 x 10e24 kg TERRAIN: N/A TEMPERATURE:N/A ESCAPE VELOCITY: 15.42 km/sec Brief The Planet orbits Salina at 15 clicks and neighbours Socorro and Jericho. Tovas surface is a fairly dry wasteland with neither flora nor fauna instead it consist of several layers that formed trays and mountain ranges. Analyzation of the atmosphere indicates a composition made up from Carbon Dioxide and Helium, considering the Silica and Ironoxid filled ground the 53rd believes that the atmosphere once held oxygen but an cataclysmic event of extreme size destroyed it. This could be related to the short distance between Tova and Socorro and the heat that Socorro emits. Other than that the planet seems stable and no signs of seismic activity where measured. Interesting enough Tova appearse to have the same geographical sizes as planet Oraibi. Mineral Survey The exploration of the surface showed 4 different points of interest: Site C-19, F-90, H-115 and F-87. The map shows the different layers, while H-115 resides on the highest tray which is approximatly 2km above ground level. C-87 being the lowest. The heighest point of interest is Site: H-115 with 5km above the 2km high tray. H-115 peaks at the top of the mountain named Tova-gM5-H115. It maily consits of ironoxid ore that are most likely remenants of the formerly existing oxgyen filled atmosphere, and supposedly long dried out humidity. The mountain top itself is rather flat, reason for that is unknown. Tova-gM5-H115 seems stable, no signs of seismic activity what so ever. Scanners also indicate thate the the small deposits on the mountain foots, H-110,H-112 and H-116 consist of smaller but not unimportant Silicat remenants. Site F-90 lies on a huge cliff connecting the ground tray and the 2k tray. The wall itself is rather rough and consist mainly out of Silicates with faint traces of Beryllium, unfortunately to a point where Beryllium mining wouldn't be worth the cost, the Silicates however are present in large quanities. Near the wall are several smaller holes that go around 100 meter into the surface. F-91,F-92 as well as F-93 all share the same combination of minerals such as site F-90. The C-19 Site is a lower tray with about 1 km above ground level in height. C-19 consist of a large smooth and flat area that again is mainly made of Silicates. The Area was so smooth on the surface that is was complicated walking on it, it felt almost like walking on top of a deeply frozen sea. Scanners assume huge ressource filled caves beneath the flat, to gather them drillings would be necessary. few lesser smooth areaswere found spread around the flat, thos need further analyzation. The last site is F-87, to our suprise F-87 is a around 500m deep cut that leads straight into the planet. The surface area around the opening has no important minerals to note, but the hidden potential is still there. the depth and the side caverns inside the main cave need to be explored further. Extraction I'd advise to build an outpost next to side C-19 as well as next to F-90. Even though the moutain top H-115 seems fitting, leaving there on foot would be pretty much impossible due to the great fall. Before any further mining operations starts i would also devise exploring the cave F-87, who knows what could be in there. RE: 53rd Squadron – Athena Squadron - Atreides2 - 07-24-2017 Baja Survey (53-57213132-M) DIAMETER: 6,720 km
MASS: 6.84 x 10e24 kg TERRAIN: Dessert TEMPERATURE: Hot ESCAPE VELOCITY: 15.42 km/sec Brief Planet Baja is in sector 2C of Coronado System. The planet was deemed uninhabited as it is having a thin atmosphere of krypton and xenon, however, the gravity of the planet is enough to keep it. Having two poles and underground water streams, which sometimes hit the surface, the planet can be terraform to resemble harsh dessert worlds of Crayter with a big investment of resources. The planet is thought that long ago it was able to maintain an atmosphere rich in oxygen, but in time it lost this property as it lost the magnetic field defending the planet, thus the high temperatures turned the planet into a desert. The planet seems to have deposits of magnesium, aluminium and other light metals on it’s silicate surface. Mineral Survey The Survey had been done with LRM-31 Probe and HAR-18 Buoys and the following map had been created. Eleven points of interest were found, while the planet show prospect of metal deposits all over the surface. Site X-23 represent a surface of 10 square km in which the Titanium ore was detected. The vein of this metal is believed to also extend to 600 m underground, however, an error of a few dozen meters may need to be accounted. The metal is relatively at the surface and is extended in the northern Xavier mountains. While the X-23 is the biggest deposit, the smaller site of X-25 is also presenting the same metal. It is believed that a full excavation on the mountain may reveal more then the titanium ore, as the mountains also present signs of Iron and Copper, along Aluminium and Berylium. Strong readings of Beryllium had been detected at the sites K-08 and K-18 on the eastern side of the Xavier mountains. The metal seems to be present inside the mountainous range and also in the hill area nearby. The area is estimated to be around 5 square km and the depth is believed to reach almost 1 km. Sites X-55, X-56, X-58 and X-60 presents large deposits of Aluminium, a material used extensively in the Republic. The sites are located in the southern region of the Xavier Mountain chain and is presumed to also be reaching depths of 1.5 km in depth. Sites X-52 , Y-23 and W-11 presents high quantities of magnesium. The deposits are found in the plain area of the South-West quadrant, on the remnants of ancient mountains that had been eroded by the winds. Traces of Iron had been detected in the South-East region, but the findings were inconclusive. Land survey is necessary. Extraction The 53rd is recommending of building a ground station near site X-55. The station should have ample storage capacity and it can also maintain human workforce among the mining drones. For the mining operation, mining drones AUM-52 , AM-83, AM-98 to be used. Utility droid AIA-28 to be utilised on the Drone Command Centre for coordination and adjustment. |
