Physics Problem !!!! - Dave Synk - 02-21-2017

So we have this. It's a well known dilemma. Discuss. Even wage war, go.

No, the plane needs forward momentum to be able to lift off, if the conveyor belt will always match the plane's speed, it will be at a speed of 0km/h which means that it can't use aerodynamics to lift off and thus is in the same state as if it was not moving its wheels at all.

Exactly that

Agreed, there are opinions that say ney across the web.

being pilot of near 30 years the plane will not take off all you doing is rolling the wheels. you have to have forward progression. the wing is designed to have a high and low pressure difference that when air travel across wing the air on top has to travel a greater distance do to the curve in wing causeing lower pressure then what under which give you the lift needed for flight

This is a "well known dilemma"? Only to those who have no sense of how an airplane actually flies i guess.

As a pilot of years not equaling 30, this as well.
Simply put, no matter how fast you go on the 'ground', you need airflow over the wings. That's why aircraft going 100 kts indicated at FL240 is alot faster than the same aircraft going 100 kts indicated at 3,000 MSL (for those who don't know why this is so the air is less dense up there, so you need to go faster to get the same 'total airflow')
Groundspeed =/= Indicated speed.

How about you put a giant conveyor belt below the conveyor belt the plane is rolling on?

RE: Physics Problem !!!! - R.I.P. - 02-22-2017

This question falls in the same line as the question my dad used to ask people to see if they were an idiot.

Which was... "Which is lighter a ton of feathers, or a ton of steel."

Honestly it is funny to have met a few people over the years who get mad and argue that a ton of feathers is lighter. One guy even wanted to fight about it. Was very sad, but very funny.

(Opinions over the internet saying Neh? Lol it is a fact the plane will not take off)

you monster.

How about if we places a Huey on a turntable, the Huey's rotor is counterclockwise. The turntable moves at the same RPM in the other direction as the rotor.
What happens?

The Huey gets ripped apart be the massive forces placed on the fuselage that is being spun 300 RPM, and your insurance won't replace it.
