The Syndrome: Arthur Dgahrs infested ships - Guest - 01-02-2009

Before you read:
The ship infestation was a concept I was working on for the Nomad Lore, this is both a character ship description and a glance within the world of technology of nomad and human combined.

Any comments, questions are encouraged. You can post in this thread or PM me.

“The Syndrome” is a ship that was once purchased and named by a boy named Arthur Dgahr, known by a few as a troublesome pilot with average skills and almost no teamwork, bad sense of humor and a odd intolerance concerning nomad technologies.
But a few know him as a follower of these beings, calling them his teachers and family, and even one of them as his soulmate.

The ships belonging to this person seem to be odd modifications of there old forms, a hull of a Rogue Gunboat on the outside, it is covered by an odd clear substance much like the bodies of nomad space forms. Though the odd goo would be easy to remove, the lad doesn’t seem to mind, as it is vitally needed for that what is hidden within, stopping scanners from reaching into the depths of his ship.

The cover is evenly spaced on the sides of the large craft, while evading the engines and the front of the ship, where it would most likely take any damage in battle or the excessive exhaust heat.
The weapons seem to be average outcast turrets joined by one basic missile turret that is placed on the left hand side of the ship, giving its owner the ability to take down bombers who are faster than him and seek to hide from his fire by using the ships large mass and small maneuverability as a cover.
The shield itself seems to be an odd one as well, the energy generator on the bottom of the ship is corroded and reduced to scrap metal that sometimes peals and litters the nebula in the outcast system Omicron Alpha, where this ship is usually sighted.

There is a shield made of semi sentient organisms surrounding the ship much like the ones nomad craft use, the organisms blocking most of the fire from hostile vessels, yet regenerating slow if in open space, the shield almost invincible when in the nebulas that contain these strange bacteria.
The interior of the ship is much odder than the outside, only a good sensor could notice the organic cover of the ship sometimes is slipping out small cracks of the hull into its deeper levels, thus making some question the structural integrity of the hybrid craft.
The ships blueprints show many places for the seven man crew that usually operate a gunship class vessel, yet these sectors seem to be already occupied by other items, mostly scrap metal and spare hull plating the owner so very carefully gathers for future repairs, the harsh environment the ship operates in eating away all kind of metal alloy.

The absence of Cardimine is odd at first, as the ships transmitter gives off a clear Outcast signature, even the ID module is programmed as such, yet the pilot has never been exposed to the addictive drug, even if he knows all too well about the more positive parts of its usage, like increasing of lifespan and higher combat efficiency.

Only the captain’s bridge seems more or less visually intact, the devices onboard modified to be operated by one person.
Under the interior plating, though, lies a carefully grown and prospered organism that seems to be nomad, yet not possessing the limiting space bodyform, allow it to grow out as it sees fit, merging with a great number of devices and spreading across all of the ship.
The devices use the same or more or less similar signals that the nomad can understand, thus after learning and mastering the given information, it can “read” the information the pilot and the ship is either receiving or giving, or in some rare cases, the information the nomad is giving though this symbiotic structure.
The reactor room seems the most infested, the organism not even hidden by the plating, freely prospering and feeding off its main power source- the ships powerplant.
It is almost amazing how much energy a nomad can use up, the weapon systems not functioning most of the time, yet the developing “sprouts” on the ships hull indicate the growth of a more nomadic weapons system that would allow the organism within to consume more power of the core, while providing more efficient weapons for defense.

The energy cables from the turrets seem to be cut, the cables that are coming from the weapons energy router block are carefully shut off with isolation tape and covered by a protective cap to prevent short circuiting and further damage. The cables coming from the turrets, though, are merged with the nomad organism, thus the Outcast turrets use more or less the nomad’s energy, allowing it to control the energy used, making the energy usage more efficient, if knowing the shot would miss, the energy lowering, if a hit is predicted, the energy flux is renewed to full form. As well, the outer layer of the ship also is connected to the power core, meaning the photosynthesis, which constantly is active in this layer, sustains the nomad with even more energy to upkeep its life as well as the connection to the Mindshare.
The scanner, sensor, wing cam, tractor beam, cargo bay, comm. unit and other major devices are also linked both to the nomad and the pilot’s controls, thus fully providing dual control over the craft. The thruster manipulator, side engine operator and cruise and impulse engines are controlled by the pilot, yet through the nomad’s bodyform once more, the more “natural” movement of this ship is highly noticeable when controlled by the nomad. This also lets the nomad correct or utterly make the ship disobey the pilots more foolish actions.

The symbiotic control of the vessel puts up a question, can the ship be flown by the nomad and does it effectively compensate the lack of a crew?
Answer is felt when there are two or more Syndrome tagged vessels seen around the Sirius sector, mostly the real pilot is working on the repairs of the slowly corroding systems, as the side effect of the humid and warm surroundings the nomad produces.

The Talarca ship was first seen only a month ago, when one of the Kusari exploration crafts was missing in action in one of the Sigma systems, most likely the work of Blood Dragons, soon what was left of it was found and towed back to the nomad systems by Arthur to begin a full scale repair of the vessel and the beginning of system and hull infestation. The ship now is operational once more; similary infested like its gunboat brothers, yet the added scale of the ship allows other nomads to “rest” in the confines of this mobile nomad lair. The cruiser also has enough power to sustain the systems, the nomad as well as any other nomad vessel that is near it, making it an effective outpost and a working platform for any other future ship infestation, not to mention allowing it to use its original weapon systems.

Sindroms – Hybrid/Infested Rogue gunboat. First ship that was infested by the help of Keepers.Sil
Sindroms(.) –Hybrid/Infested Rogue gunboat. Second gunboat salvaged from a dead mercenary in Omicron Iota system, the “Offspring” of the original infested ship.
Sindroms(: ) – Hybrid/Infested Talarca light cruiser. Third vessel of Arthur Dgahr and the second offspring of the original infested gunboat. Mobile nomad lair, Infestator.

The Talarca is the only ship that is fully efficient, unlike its gunboat brothers that still cannot keep most systems online AND upkeep the nomad within.

Looks good, but a couple of slight spelling mistakes
Quote:Kusari exploration crafts was mission in action

Surely you mean missing?

Hehee thanks there. I just hope i get enough feedback on the concept itself.

Good, detailed and useful to you for future RP , also explains your action in game, in RP sense... Keep it up !

I hope we will soon read similar, detailed explanation of that Outcasts body together with, maybe, some explanation of his mind state..

Very good work!
