![]() No Calm For Kyushu Violence and disquiet continue to rock the planet of Kyushu as Imperial rule is re-established following a highly successful revolt by loyalist elements. The Samura controlled world, widely considered to be Kusari’s premier food producer, had shown previous resistance to Republican rule following the Emperor’s exile in 818 AS as a conservative majority clashed with the open door policy adopted by the new government. Hardline opposition on the planet ran a vocal campaign against the shift in foreign affairs throughout the transition, eagerly backed by a resentful Samura who had been ousted from their favored position by corporate rival and republic government supporter, Kishiro Technologies. Planet Kyushu soon became embroiled in a five year political war that pitched time-honored traditional values against a wave of foreign tolerance and open market ambition. Republic sympathies increased slightly during this time as the expanded trade options saw Kyushu Rice become a popular gourmet dish, particularly within Rheinland and the upper echelons of Gallic society. However, a sharp increase in demand for Synth Foods products from the younger generations of Kusari provided conservatives with an effective platform that greatly diminished any further Republican gains on the planet. All the while on the political stage, House-wide favor for parties proponent of the Republic suffered a further blow in the Kusari parliamentary elections. Results revealed a two-to-one lead for the pro-Imperial Kusari Reformation Party, prompting a surge in tensions across the nation. Yet despite its successful return to conservative rule, planet Kyushu still suffers incidents of rioting as opportunists use the rampant disorder to commit crimes without fear of reprisal. Cities and towns are once again facing the brunt of the disturbance with reports of looting and vandalism steadily rising among outlying villages. In response, the Imperial government has drafted local militia groups to disperse the protests and act as temporary peacekeeping forces whilst the planet recovers from its political upheaval.■ Kusari Correspondent, Jun Furuse Tags: Kusari, Kyushu, Civil War, Unrest, Politics.
