Suggestions for Admins - Garrett Jax - 06-15-2017 Given the latest chaos with the forum and server migration, I thought I might offer a friendly suggestion or two. First, I understand as a former Admin how loathe the Greens have have been to remove inactive members from the team. However, my experience has been the team functions better when all its members are active and productive. Frequently, an Admin will disappear from voting, stop doing sanctions reports and even drop off from Admin chat altogether for various lengths of time. This creates a burden on those Admins who are active, and absolutely kills their joy of the game due to burn out. Occasionally, an Admin might show up after an extended hiatus with a brief spurt of activity, but then quickly drops off again because of life demands on their time. This constant in and out of Admin activity might be unavoidable, but if it happens regularly, it again makes life difficult for those Admins who are trying hard to keep things going. Currently, it appears that there are very few Admins handling sanction reports. From an outside perspective, it also appears that very few of the current team is active. Alley has stated, and has for awhile, that she planned on slowing down/stopping her service to Disco. Looks as if Conrad is gone. Jens floats in and out quite a bit. Does Chris/Hawk even want to be on the team anymore? Great people, each and every one, but not very visible. Maybe instead of being forced to deal with all this inconsistency, you, as a group, can create a stricter standard for yourselves when it comes to activity requirements for Admins. Imagine being confident that each and every member of the team will carry their fair share of responsibility, thereby easing the load for others. Imagine not having to constantly remind the team a new vote is up for consideration. Imagine having to handle fewer sanction reports as an individual because everyone is doing their part. I would recommend personal enforcement of this stricter standard of activity as well as holding others accountable also. No one likes being told they are no longer qualified to hold a position of responsibility. It's not pleasant to have to tell members of your team that they no longer qualify either. However, in the long run, the team is stronger and the server benefits. And nothing prevents that person from possibly being reappointed as a Mod maybe, giving themselves an opportunity to prove that they now have the circumstances in life to allow them to be more consistent in the future. Anyways, this is just a personal suggestion from someone who floats in and out of Disco himself. RE: Suggestions for Admins - Hannibal - 06-15-2017 you can't really force someone to be active, you either have time or you don't, the problem was finding peoples who can even join as a mod...and we've tried ~3 times publicly which had no positive outcomes as you all can see as for hawk, he was just like conrad, someone who was helping in some other way than actually being an "admin", or in this particular case not even getting the chance to know him at all while i was part of the team RE: Suggestions for Admins - Sombs - 06-15-2017 Are there deadlines for votings and stuff? Like, at least three of [current admin count] votes for decisionmaking? RE: Suggestions for Admins - Tabris - 06-15-2017 3 Votes usually is the limit. However sometimes more may be required depending on what's being voted upon. RE: Suggestions for Admins - Sombs - 06-15-2017 And do the votes need a statement by the voter like it was with Heavy Decision? RE: Suggestions for Admins - Tabris - 06-15-2017 It varies. Sometimes it's VERY clean cut and only needs a 'Yes' or 'No' Vote. Other times explaining is required and their reasoning for said vote. So it all depends on the type of vote and WHAT is being voted upon. More of something like, "thanks for your help. Apply for a position again when life frees you up." My point is, if someone isn't very active, then why be on the team? I understand the problem with finding good candidates. Been through that process many a time. I would probably not expect a perfect candidate. Look for an honest one, willing to work and develop him as a Mod into a Green or weed him out. Takes time, but consider it as an investment in the team. RE: Suggestions for Admins - Tunicle - 06-15-2017 There are deadlines when there is an admin vote and we try and make sure all vote and give a rationale for their decision. Sanction, perks do not has as defined a deadline, usually have a minimum of 3 inputs, if there is debate it can be much more. These are not really formal votes in the same sense as admin votes. |
