Rheinlandic Horse Sauerbraten with a side of Leberkäse.

Sauerbraten, or “sour roast”, is a traditional Rheinlandic pot roast that has been a culinary staple of Rheinlandic dining for centuries. Since Sauerbraten dates to a time before synth produce, neophyte chefs are advised to avoid Synth substitutes wherever possible. Tougher cuts of meat are advised, for the marination process will decrease the toughness of the meat over several days of preparation.

To marinate the meat, immerse in red wine marinade for between four and ten days. Advised additions to the marinade includes mustard seeds, peppercorns juniper berries, cloves, bay leaves, and nutmeg. Buttermilk may be also added to provide Swabian associations. Once marinated, the roast can be simmered till completion.

Best accompanied with a tall, warm litre glass of Hamburger Kölsch, the Sauerbraten may also be accompanied with kartoffelpuffer potato pancakes. These may be flavoured accordingly to individual tastes.
