The Gallic Brigands, uncommonly referred to as The Free Brigands of Gallia, are a decentralised criminal network mostly composed of experienced career criminals. The earliest reference of the Free Brigands of Gallia Movement dates back to 290 A.G.S. where 'loosely affiliated' criminal elements were reported. The modern day Gallic Brigands by most are considered nothing more than pirates using oppression as an excuse.

The Brigands have survived for all these years for one simple reason; their resourcefulness. The Brigands have been known to rely on civilian technology just as much as their own and it's helped them come along way from being pretty pirates. Alongside their allies, the Unione Corse, The Gallic Brigands control almost all of the black market of Gallia. This, alongside the Nox trade, funds the Brigands. Despite this, the Brigands will still rob anyone who gets too close to them, this is the leading factor that distances the Free Brigands of Gallia from The Council.

The Free Brigands of Gallia began as nothing more than pirates looking to make a quick set of cash. This simplistic view however quickly changed with the Gallic Civil War(s). War is profitable to pretty much anyone who makes the most of it. The majority of the first Brigands emerged from poor, impoverished urban, areas on Amines. This planet was particularly common for drawing out the inner criminal in people due to the common mistreatment of the local populace; long hours, underpaid jobs, all are common sights.

The Free Brigands of Gallia also had a large amount its ranks filled by those who wished that could try their luck in the criminal game. It was not uncommon to have ex-police officers, space construction workers or even other criminals and convicts flocking towards the Brigands. As the numbers and strength of the Brigands grew, so did what they decided to prey upon.

During the first Gallic Civil War, the Gallic Brigands didn't play much of a part, just using the increased military convoys as targets of opportunity; tools for war sell very well on the black market. As the Movement de Liberation Gaulois was busy battling the lawful Gallic forces, the Brigands grew becoming stronger in both numbers and power. The war played a key part in the rise of the Brigands as the second most powerful unlawful force in Gallia. Without the profits made from it, the Brigands would be lucky to be half the size it is today.

Considering that the Brigands are not revolutionaries, it might be considered ironic that they call themselves The Free Brigands of Gallia. However, this is because the far majority of those who identify themselves as Gallic Brigands have something in common; they believe themselves to be free people living outside the constraints of the law and society, they share an agenda, an idea.

Currently, the Brigands frequently receive new members, however, the bulk of their population are descendants of the original Brigands. During the first Gallic Civil War and just prior to it, the population rose at such a rapid rate that to this day the population still grows faster from repopulation among existing Brigands than any outside recruits. The current Gallic Brigand population is considered to be roughly 300,000 strong, but due to a lack of any recent survey, it is believed to be much higher.

It wasn't until relatively recently, the Second Gallic Civil War, that the Brigands were considered a real standing military force. The sheer numbers of the Gallic Brigands, albeit unorganised on the whole, is enough to overpower the Gallic Royal Navy. The most notable instances of this occurred during the battles for Dauphine in 726-727 A.G.S. and during the liberation of Marne. During the battles for Dauphine, the Brigands rolled out in huge numbers, supporting the Maquis, drastically altering the course of battle.

The Marne Uprising of 710 A.G.S (until 716 A.G.S) was where people realised that a unified Brigand Force was something to be feared. Together with Council forces and the oppressed Marne population, a war bloody war began anew with a planet-wide rebellion kicking off. Between the sheer numbers and Council's ingenious strategies and tactical knowledge, the Gallic Forces were soon wiped off the face of Marne.

The expansion into Sirus was decided upon during the Frejus Brigand Council meeting in 732 AGS. This was decided upon at the same time as when the Brigands voted in favour of direct support of The Council with military action. It was chosen because of the lucrative opportunities it was thought to bring and avenues that could be pursued thanks to it. Despite this move, however, the Brigands have not established contact with a lot of groups; having only really encountered the IMG, to which they promptly told them to fork over their cargo in most instances.

Short Term:
• Establish contact with other organisations within Sirius - There are groups around Sirius that are a huge untapped market for the Brigands. Allies and trade partners allow for a greater profit.
• Contact and enter diplomatic talks with the Outcasts - The Outcasts are close neighbours and are openly hostile to the Gallic Crown. This combined with the fact they control a very lucrative substance is enough to peak the interest of the Brigands.
Mid-to-Long Term:
• Discover new potential markets for the Nox trade and Black Market smuggling.
• Attempt to gather intel on the Royal Forces to see if there are any convoys or important targets that are worth something.
Long Term:
• Unify all Brigands under one banner, change the Brigands from just being an idea to its own recognisable military force.
• Carve a path with the Council to reunite with the Roussillon Force.

The Brigands are structured in the shape of different communities rather than acting as a faction as a whole. Each base under the control of the Brigands had an appointed Warlord. This Warlord, also known as an Elder, governs the base as he/she sees fit. This allows for a great amount of diversity among the Brigands which each base functioning differently, some quite drastically. This often carries over to how their acts of piracy and criminal mischief are conducted with some taking far different approaches.

This internal difference in culture is both a blessing and a curse towards the Brigands. The beauty of it is that it allows the Brigands to have large amounts of cultural diversity and freedom of movement among its members. Each Brigand is able to decide which base they wish to operate under, given they request it from the Elder first. The curse of the Brigands, however, comes into play when its comes to any sort of unification. As everyone has their own way of acting and functioning, miscommunication can occur. This is made worse when people from different sects encounter each other or have to work together as they can have a totally different way of handling the situation.

Due to this decentralised way of working each Elder is able to call upon a Council Summit. When a summit is called each Elder is given the option of whether to attend or to not, it's entirely optional. Due to this baseline principle, it's rare to have all the Elders show up to a single Council Summit and has happened only a handful of times in Brigand history. When a summit is called, it will generally consist of between one and three different sessions.

However, despite all this, some of the Brigand Warlords are in better contact and organisation than others. It's not common knowledge to the lower ranked Brigands and outsiders, but some of the Elders often host small meetings just among them, not including the entire Brigand Leadership.

As each base performs better and achieves more their Elder will, in turn, become more powerful and recognised as such. The most powerful Warlords are considered to be: Mathieu Rousseau of Planet Marne. Noah Durand of the Frejus Raiders & Maxime Moreau of the Boulogne Smugglers.

The Brigand's Snubcraft

The Brigands are one of the most resourceful factions within Gallia, surviving the onslaught and brutality of the Gallic crown for generations. The Brigands are known to use whatever they can get their hands on, this can lead to civilian ships sporting Brigand weaponry or other weird mashups of equipment. The Brigands do have their own line of equipment, but some parts of it are horribly outdated to very few Brigands being dedicated engineers or researchers.

In recent times, most innovations within the Brigands armoury are thanks to Frejus Base or Planet Marne. Planet Marne has far more people so by pure chance more productivity is pushed in the direction of increasing the Brigands firepower, whereas Frejus is controlled by Noah Durand, who has put a large focus in preparation and organisation which has led to some of the most intelligent Brigands being pioneers for the Brigands research on the whole.

The Brigand Transports
[Image: xycSoc4.png]

The Brigands main income for generations has been the Nox trade, along with many other parts of the Gallic Blackmarket, and thus investments had to be made to help increase productivity and effectiveness. It was under this philosophy that the L'Ane and Courior were born. Some of the best transporters in Gallia, and perhaps Sirius, these are increadable efficent and are capable of holding their own in a fight if caught off guard.

The Brigand's Heavy Support
[Image: Qonjb7d.png]

Currently, just the Asco gunboat, the Brigand's armoury does contain the potential for a rather high amount of damage and chaos. The Brigand Gunboat is outfitted to be able to swiftly de-shield and destroy transports and similarly large ships. It carries a Torpedo armament that is capable of completely removing even high capacity shields from afar. The Torpedo will cause the transport to either break formation in an attempt to dodge, or it will remove its shields entirely and leave it in a vulnerable state. In either scenario, it is extremely effective at what it does.

Each of the Brigand installations has its own operational area, picking different targets depending on what is available and profitable. A large amount of Gallia has Brigands ready to spring upon prey and exploit them for profit, however, Gallia is not the limit of the Brigands reach. The Montauban Raiders of Roussillon frequently prowl the Tau systems for easy prey or IMG mining convoys. The mining convoys can prove to be quite lucrative if ambushed quickly and efficiently.

The spoils are often brought back with them but sometimes if the haul is good enough the raiders will find somewhere to sell it and scarper before patrols are sent after them.

It's been quite the length of time since the Brigands surfaced and made themselves a force to be feared. So with that in mind why not give it a go? Activity as of late has been picked up in Gallia and it's border systems so the time is ripe to strike.

F.A.Q
• Q: What Tag will you be flying?
A: Our format is FB|Base-Name. FB| will be for all Brigands, the base part is the initals for what group of Brigands they are part of, and the name indicates the name of the ship/pilot.

• Q: There is not enough trade occurring in Gallia, how will you spend your time?
A: The Brigands have multiple options to which we can pursue. If you look at the Goals and Objectives section you will hopefully get an accurate idea of how we plan to spend our time. Smuggling, Piracy, and RP among various groups as we try to set out proper faction diplomacy.

• Q: Your Command Structure greatly confuses me. How does it actually work?
A: In simple terms, it is like this: Each Station will have an appointed leader (not all to begin with due low faction count). This leader will be given *almost* free rein on how to run those who are under his/her wing. This will allow for greatly different techniques and approaches to different scenarios. This is what I was aiming for when I created the faction as its how inRP the faction was designed to run. From the start, we plan to only have three main leaders to make it similar to the High Command structure the majority of factions use. If this idea is successful we may expand upon it. We will be creating a document that listed more details about each of the 'clans'.

• Q: Where is your recruitment thread?
A: Right here friends!

• Q: What is the Brigands modus operandi?
A: "Struggle Cuddle" and pillage, no survivors and no jewellery left on the body. But in all seriousness, the Brigands are not nice people. They are a bunch of lowly raiders and will act like such.

• Q: Why do I get the feeling this is inspired by the other Brigand faction that just cropped up?
A: It wasn't in anyway. I first wrote this up about 7 months ago.

• Q: Your faction is bad and you should feel bad.
A: That wasn't a question or very nice. Thanks for reading.

I first was like "Oh god, another gallic faction we will see disappear in a month" but then I saw something that changed my mind, so good luck with the faction, the write-up looks pretty cool.

Thanks everyone, didn't realise people would actually want a Gallic faction to thrive. I'm pleasantly surprised.

RE: The Free Brigands of Gallia - Information & Feedback - Docent - 06-21-2017

I actually had a Brigand character way back - mainly because of the cool ships - but it bored the hell out of me since at that time there was next to none traffic around Gallia and the only place to go was in fact Tau-23. I'd like to give it another try, maybe with a faction it will take off better. Since I'm already a badass Core bastard, the RP should be the right fit for me. Good job lads!
